62 Though a nice clean and worthy place of getting some beers, Ryan’s is just a touch better in amount of bottles. Though I tend to like Walsh’s the best (IMO), this place is worthy to check out when in the area and you can’t find what you’re looking for at Ryan’s or Walsh’s. |
74 primarily a liquor store, but a fair selection of beer with a few hidden gems. prices were decent. |
100 I have been a happy customer of Wolverines Market for years. They have a great beer selection, super friendly and knowledgeable staff. They offer some harder to find bombers and 750’s as well. Not to mention a fantastic wine selection. If you are in Port Huron, its definitely worth stopping by. |
80 Port Huron’s other store, 4 minutes down the street from Ryan’s. Not the selection that Ryans has but I find the prices can be better at times. All the stock was fairly fresh, and the serice here is extremely helpful (the area where it trumps Ryan’s imho). Hopefully they expand more on their beer offerings - would love to see more MI seasonals. |
82 My girl and I came here while doing a cross-border beer run in Port Huron. Upon entering the store we were greeted by Nate Bakko, the young guy who’s responsible for bringing in all the quality crafts and imports as of late. His dad, Andy, is the wine sommelier for the store and he’s given Nate some freedom to order stuff from Founder’s, Dogfish Head, Avery, Stone, and Bell’s, among many other breweries.
The beer selection is tiny but high quality and seemingly fresher than a lot of the stuff that’s available at Ryan’s. I grabbed a Samuel Smith Taddy Porter, DFH Olde School Barley Wine, Avery Maharaja, Founder’s Red Rye, Centennial IPA, Breakfast Stout, Porter, Imperial Stout, and Pale Ale, Great Lakes Nosferatu, and Bell’s Java Stout and Porter. These twelve beers only cost me $35, which is reasonable by Canadian standards. Beyond that, you can break apart six packs (which you can’t do at Ryan’s) and the staff are ridiculously helpful and friendly, as they chatted to us the entire time we were shopping and grabbed us a bunch of empty boxes to put the beers in.
Based on our solid experience here I’m convinced that Wolverine is worth checking out before heading to Ryan’s. Nate and staff are doing great things with the beer and they know how to make their customers feel welcomed. I will definitely be back here on future trips. |
