Miss this place. Really liked to get a pint, watch some soccer, play checkers with friends, talk to the bartender, meet people, and eat frog in the hole. Can’t do that at most places in DC anymore...right?

This is a great bar to go find some great craft beers. I had a cask Victory and a Weyerbacher Quadrouple. My friends all ordered food, which they all said was very good. English style pub, high tables oak and a front patio. Great bar.

CommonWealth is the new ’gastropub’ that opened recently in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. CommonWealth is very accessible as it’s about 100 feet from the exit to the Columbia Heights metro station. Fairly big restaurant with a bar area that’s maybe a bit too small for it’s own good, the decor is English pub run in modern America. Service was pretty good, although we didn’t put them to the test with any tough questions or orders. On the higher end in terms of prices for both beer and the upscale pub food. Beer selection stays true to it’s arbitrary roots, UK drafts and bottles with a few US micros on tap and in bottle, mostly stuff from the Mid-Atlantic region. Dogfish Head beers were conspicuously absent. The good news was they had a few cask selections. A draft pint will run you between $6 and $7.50, bottles can run just a little more. Pretty nice place, tries a bit too hard to be ’authentic’ but definitely worth checking out if you’re in the mood for a pint and some upscale pub grub.
