We visited here Monday 14th October 2019, we were in the company of Dad and Pauline. In truth I hadn't actually intended visiting this place, I was en route to the other bottle shop close by, however I had seen this place added on this site though noted that it was without a write up. As I passed it, it looked very interesting so we popped in. It's at the northern edge of the old town on a street that runs parallel with the river, it's close to that lovely bridge over the Danube. It's a nice old building, it is simply labelled Birretta across the stone arch entrance, I liked the arched entrance and windows either side. Inside it has vaulted ceilings and looks more like a cellar bar than ground level shop, most of the beers are on the right hand side. The layout is a little strange, not any really proper conventional shelving as such, maybe they are trying to make best use of the available space without it seeming too empty. There is a bar/cash desk on the left hand side near the front and a table to the rear of the shop where the owner was sat on his computer as we entered the premises. The choice was actually pretty decent, there was a good focus on regional and national offerings, mostly from smaller producers but also a decent international selection. I picked up beers from Yankee and Kraut, Sudden Death, an Olorosso Barrel Aged Impy Stout from Hoppebräus Zapferei, a collab' Eisbocked Imperial Stout from Freigeist and Demory breweries another Imperial Stout from Hanscraft and Co', and a Borefts Special from De Molen. However there were a few US beers, some Scandinavian offerings with quite a lot from the Danish brewery with the great painted labels whose name escapes me at the moment and a few of the trendier UK breweries. Yes all in all a good find, some of the beers were a little bit pricey, but still I guess they were not easy to obtain. All in all a very nice find and somewhere I will definitely return to.
