When I visited the pub was still closed. Owner was brewing in the back and we had a nice chat while looking at him working. How much ambiance and service you want? Got a beer presented (Stanley), which was not bad. Have to return one day.

Open-plan brewpub. Four cask ales on my visit (three house beers and one guest) but nothing too exciting. Makes up for it with a surfeit of good foreign bottled beer as well as a few good German taps. The cider and perry selection is commendable as well with five in total.

Visited for a few hours on a Friday afternoon before catching the ferry over to Bruges. Probably not the best time of day to visit for ambiance. It was pretty dead and they could have done with putting the heating on. There were 5 real ales on at the time. Three were from the house brewery. All were fairly uninspiring bitters. The fridge offered a good range of Beligans plus a few from the rest of the world. Nothing too unusual though. There were a few world beer on tap too. Not the greatest pub ever, but worth a visit.

Very traditional English pub feel and atmosphere. Near the city centre, a little out of the way and not really visible from a main street, but it is pretty easy to find if you know where it is and look it up before going. There are plenty of tables and booths and a pretty large bar area. There is a large cooler area with a glass wall for you to look into what bottles are available. The waitress was pretty helpful and cheery. Wasn’t overly knowledgeable, but knew what beer they had and what each beer was like so pretty good and helpful. Served in the correct glassware, they have a large selection of glassware from specific breweries. Have some local Real Ales on cask as well as some others on tap, like St. Louis Kriek. A couple of nice ciders as well. Nothing special but the local ales are nice to see. A pretty extensive bottle selection (especially in regards to Belgians) but nothing really rare that would be hard to find other places. Overall, I liked the atmosphere, it gave off a traditional English pub feel, had helpful and cheery staff, and owners that do care about beer. Objectively this bar isn’t anything special, at least in regards to selection of hard to get things, but for Hull this is pretty good. If you are in Hull or the area around Hull, check it out, but don’t feel like you have to travel to Hull to check this place out.

Visited Hull just over a year ago to visit this place after being told about it by a friend at uni in Hull. The place is basically a classic english pub, old school decor, friendly locals, a bit out of the way just off the city centre. The one difference is this local pub has a terrific walk in beer cellar with (I guess) around 150 different bottles of beer, mainly Belgian. Not rare stuff, but generally good stuff, also a several english cask ales and a few continental drafts, including when I was there some terrific Chouffe N’Ice on draft. A cracking pub, I wish it would relocate itself to Newcastle!

Visited on 25th January 2008. This is an excellent freehouse which has won CAMRA local awards in recent years. Six cask conditioned ales are usually available, mainly from local breweries. real ciders and perries are also available, and if that’s not enough then try any one of the range of over one hundred foreign bottled beers. The building is almost 150 years old. At the time of my visit, a smoking area was provided; smokers planning to go now should check if this facility remains open. I recommend the Wellington to anyone finding themselves in the city of Hull for any reason.
