The restaurant is in the historic properties part of town. Nestled within the best architectural buildings in the city makes a grand setting. If the town planners get there way this area will probably not exist in another 20 years time. The waiter was excellent so cant grumble about the service. A nice relaxed atmosphere. The beer choice was excellent for this area, however you could probably get most from premier wine spirits for slightly less. But if you want some good beer with some great food, this is the place to go and one of few places in Halifax that serves such choice and quality.

Finally got around to stopping by this place on a storm day when most of the city was without power. It’s an odd set-up. There’s a casual dining room they seem to call a bar and then a more ritzy dining room on the other side. The place is outfitted fairly nicely but there’s something about it that just doesn’t vibe. It’s hard to decide what the place is really trying to be. The service was quite good and our waitress (that’s right, there’s no such thing as a ’server’) was very pleasant and helpful even though things were a little chaotic and they were obviously short staffed. The beer selection is fairly extensive for this part of the world but there’s nothing remotely interesting available on tap and the bottle selection seems to be geared more toward sheer volume than quality or integration with the menu. I had a tenderloin steak that was cooked a little more than I’d asked but was otherwise fantastic. The overall portion wasn’t enough to actually fill a person up and we all eneded up having a second dinner and more drinks elsewhere. Also, some of the suggested beer pairings with the menu were just perplexingly bad. Ultimately, I probably wouldn’t go back unless it was on someone else’s dime.
