Visited mid afternoon in November 14. In the basement of a block it’s great to have a beer amongst all the paraphernalia of a working venue. Great beer on sale for decent prices. Staff friendly and helpful. I do like this place

Really like this place a lot. It’s a small facility that utilizes the brewery as a brewpub with a bar. The bartenders (and patrons) are always incredibly nice and hospitable. There are barrels set up in the facility to use as tables. Very friendly atmosphere and the times I’ve been here there have been a couple of regulars, but lots of rotation with seasonals / special releases. Worth visiting.

Been meaning to check this place out practically since they opened, and finally got in here. Turns out that within a few months they will have a new place up on Belmont. Ah, well. Cest la vie--the new place will probably be even cooler. This is a warehouse space that has been fully converted to a production brewery on the small size of medium. They have close to a dozen fermenters of varying sizes--giant stainless steel tanks--and it’s here among these that you settle down for a quiet beer and to reflect on the vicissitudes of life with your friends. You can hear the blowoff tubes bubbling in buckets of water when a freshly-pitched batch is fermenting rapidly. You’re right there, and it makes for a great setting. That said, all you really get here are 8 taps, water, and background music. It’s not a place to come for a snack, let alone a meal. It’s fun, and if there’s a brewer behind the bar (likely) who has free time (less likely--they get busy), then you might hear about how beers are coming along or whatever else comes up as a topic of conversation. But there will doubtless be more creature comforts at the new place. I kinda miss this place already, even after one brief visit, even though it’ll be here for a few more months. Dig it.

So this is a tough one to review. I enjoy this brewery’s beer and the service was friendly, but the space is very small and cramped. I dig being amongst the brewing equipment, but there was maybe 6 chairs in the entire place and no where to really put our sampler paddles. Also, ungodly hot in the summer as there was no AC and one small fan trying to cool down the entire place. All that aside, this place is worth the stop based on the people and beer alone. Will definitely return if I am back in Portland.

Love the Commons. Been visiting and following these guys since the early days. They have been steady adding staff, offering expanded hours and always put out solid beers. Prices and selection in the tap room are tough to beat. Glad to see them growing and looking forward to the expansion/new brew house around the corner. Not to miss when it town.

Located in a beautifully restored warehouse in Portland, with fresh wooden panels on the wall - making the room smell like a mountain cabin, and shiny, stainless steel tanks lined up to the side of the bar, The Commons Brewery make some of the best farmhouse ales I’ve had in Portland. With 8 beers on draught you’ve got a nice selection of beers to chose from for your a beer flight or two. A must visit if you want to see a small craft brewery in Portland. Visited: 2014-07-20.

Cool brewery/tasting room in down town. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Nice selection of house brews on tap.

A taproom in a working brewery, reminds me quite a bit of Lost Abbey. Staff is fun and friendly, beer is absurdly cheap. Food is not there, but like so many others they are bringing in food trucks. So close to everything else in Portland, stop in.

Visited on Sunday 26/05/13 around 4.30pm. The tasting room is pretty much grabbing a space around a barrel in the midst of the brewery and all its kit. There were half a dozen folks there when we arrived and the guy behind the bar knew who we were, a friend had tipped him off there were a couple of English guys in town for the weekend! Good service all round and he opened up a bottle of Flemish Kiss for us to share with an out of town couple we got chatting to. 7 beers on tap during my visit, as well as saisons and sours there was a stout on offer. Just the 3 bottles available to take out. Solid brewery stop, good vfm and good beers!
