Went to Sacramento with my brother to visit a friend. Turns out theres a ton of breweries and brewpubs in Sacramento. 4 of us stopped in here as we walked around downtown hitting up Pyramid and Rubicon as well. The bartender was real nice and so was the hostess. Just like a lot of people I asked a bunch of questions about the various beers. The bartender knew a little but it was obvious that he was just serving the drinks. But he did put up with us as we tried all 22 of the beers on tap.

After 22 samples the tab was only around $25. I also grabbed a bottle of the 2006 vanilla oaked beer that they were advertising which brought the tab to around $45. Didnt try the food but that atmosphere was enjoyable. Pretty crowded and a bit loud but there was room to manuver around the bar and order drinks.

Overall the beers were alright and some of them were made to style. The RIS, the DIPA, and the fruit beer were my favorites of the day. Havent opened that bottle I took home yet.

Stopped in here for a sampler on a Saturday night (8/7/10). Place was pretty dead, but it was a good while before closing time. Service was polite enough, but she really seemed like she didn’t want anything to do with us. Pretty decent sampler of 16 beers. The Vanilla Cream Stout was the standout, but there were some other pretty good ones as well (along with some that weren’t so great). Didn’t try the food. Overall worth the stop if you’re in the area.

rerate as of 4-25-11 Went back as I had heard they had made changes and they have good deals on samplers. Better this time. Ambiance is ok. Full of people brewing beer. Everyones standing there brewing right next to you while your trying to eat. Service was really good, not perfect but our waiter was a nice guy and went out of his way to help with the beer. Beer selection is excellent. There were probably 20 different house brews on tap. Food was good bar food. Value was good as well. Very reasonable sampler prices allow you to try many different beers. Overall I would recommend this place. The beer isn’t the best, but not bad. The ales lack complexity and the lagers are over flavored. Thats said I was able to try 16 different beers in one sitting for a reasonable price. Worth a trip.

I really liked this place. A lot of good brews and none that were great. Food was good. The kettle chips with blue cheese, fresh basil and balsamic vinegar appetizer was killer.

This is a multiple-purpose establishment that serves as a bar, a restaurant and a home brewing faciltiy. There are 20 or taps dispensing their own brews surrounded by a long bar from which flat screen TVs can be viewed. There is a large attractive restaurant area and a separate space to accommodate amateur brewers. The beers are mostly rather mediocre, with an occasional winner, but the variety is nice.

Really enjoyable place, a rather nice loaction in a more residential part of downtown Sacramento. I think this is the only brewpub I’ve ever been in which gives you the opportunity to brew your own beer using their facilities, a very neat idea, although I didn’t have the time or the money to brew any myself! I tried 20 different beers here and they were all of a high standard (just a shame a couple of the dark beers were on nitro). I went twice in the space of 4 days, there was quite a large turn-over of the beers. The food was also very nice and the service was friendly as were the other folks I met at the bar. My only gripe with Brew It Up was that it was quite expensive, not so much that it broke the bank, but couldn’t afford to drink many pints there.

was walking with my girlfriend in Sac, past the Capital, when this place caught my eye. Particuarly from the name (kind of dumb name if you ask me) and the fact that it was basically in the middle of a really nice neighborhood, away from any other businesses. A definately interesting setup inside, you walk in and you see all sorts of grains and different hops and barley, and beer making supplies on the left side. On the right side is a brewing area, and then the kitchen. And then straight ahead is the bar, with over 20 beers on tap that are made right there. Excellent selection and i was pleased with every beer i tried. I remember trying at least 15 different brews, but the ones I rated were the only ones I remembered specifically. If you make it out to Sac, check this place out. Pretty cool stuff!

22 beers on tap - all made onsite in 1 barrel batches i don’t think any other brewpub matches this you won’t like them all - but how could you - they appear to focus on nailing the styles...and how many people like everything. dining menu is huge - with a number of tweaks or twists on classic pub fair good hearty food with ample portions. with the personal brewery in full swing - where you can find up to 9 beers being made by customers while you dine - you won’t ever see another place like this.

Lots of drafts brewed on site. Usually a new brew every week or two - or so it seems. Food is not cheap, but it’s good and fairly priced. It’s there to make money, not to indulge the hobbiest. I say that despite the fact that the hobbiest can brew and bottle on site. Hence the name.

I arrived here on a Weds afternoon around 2-3pm. As expected, it was not busy. Fairly spacious interior, which is simply decorated. Plenty of seats. Bar is in the back with about a dozen seats. I did not order any food, but the menu was relatively typical. They had a great selection of beers on tap. Samplers are encouraged, Beers were average and the service was courteous. Bartenders were not overly knowledgeable, but courteous and quick.
