Dean’s Bottle Shop (Yongkang)

This second Dean’s location can be found on the busy Yongkang Lu bar strip. It’s a hole-in-the-wall joint with a narrow space to squeeze in a couple of fridges that hold 50 or so different beers. It’s regularly stocked with the likes of Rogue, Saranac and Brooklyn which appears ad-hoc for the prevalent 20-something American expats that congregate along this strip. Imported pale lager is also readily available. Seven taps but have mostly been lackluster on my visits. It’s actually quite nice to sit on an outside table and enjoy a quiet afternoon beer on a warm day. The busy evenings are less inviting with the drunken and at times raucous crowds. Closest metro stop:- South Shaanxi Road.

Bottle shop where you can drink the beers.Mostly American and UK, I had an Inveralmond Ossian which was nice but expensive. Had been to Shanghai but hadn’t visited this street. A lot of bars along here, at present not listed on Ratebeer. Something for everyone I expect.

There are 2 locations in Shanghai, one is a bottle shop only, this one is more a bar also selling beer bottles to go. Located in the French Concession, close to some other nice bars, they are serving 5 draft beers. We were here on April 30th 2013 and they had: Rogues - Yellow Snow IPA and Double Chocolate Stout, Brew Dog - Trash Blonde and 5 A.M. Saint and Murphy’s Irish Stout. You can find several North Coast and Rogues beers in bottles as well. The pub is very small and has two tables outside. All in all a great place with good beers.
