78 Great chill place north of Shibuya. Relaxing and non-pretentious. A place I would hang all the time if I lived in Tokyo. Selection is pretty decent-not a whole lot of beers but rather well chosen. Owner/barman is friendly and knowledgeable. Food looks good too.

80 Very homey, very worn down, spacious interior that seats about 20 people in spacious setting. Very chill vibe. DJ booth on one side, bar on the other. It feels like there has been a bar in this location for 70 years. Eight taps of well chosen Japanese craft beer, plus a smattering of domestic and import bottles. Wine and hard liquor menu is also deep. Staff was friendly and attentive and spoke some English. Food was excellent and ranges from well made Western pub grub to experimental Japanese. Beer was in good condition. This place isn’t a beer geek hang out, but surely is the best place in Tokyo to take non-beer geek friends. Very good place that I would go to, even if it didn’t have eight interesting beers on tap. Clearly a must on any Shibuya pub crawl. |
