56 I’m sad to see that this place did not make it. It was really quite out of place for small rural town Iowa. The decor was eclectic flea market. The locale in an old fire station was out there. Making your own beer in a Bud Lite town? This place might have worked in a big college town on one of the coasts, but here, it was doomed from the beginning. I visited about 3 times. The food was very good, but they never quite knew what they were doing in the beer-making department. |
48 Visited 8/26/05. About an hour from Omaha, this little joint is in the former firehouse of the small town of Red Oak. It has the character of a small town diner and serves all three meals. They make their own baked goods, from rolls to pies, along with the small number of house beers. The staff was very friendly and the food was good. Unfortunately the beer wasn’t worth the trip. But if for some reason you ever find yourself in Red Oak, stop by and try the place out, if for no other reason than to support a local brewer. The Depot Deli in Shenandoah is owned by the same folks. |
