Marty’s is a staple-stop when I’m in the area because of the huge selection, but that comes with some caveats: 1) The service is usually not great. There isn’t usually anyone on the floor in the liquor/beer areas offering help. You can usually get help in the wine department without even asking. They have a newer guy, David, who is good when he’s there, and was extremely helpful on my last visit a couple weeks ago. But he’s a newer addition and when he’s not there... 2) Some of the beers are ageing on the shelves. This is both a good thing and a reason I do go there: you can find things that are out of season, out of stock in the "Beer stores," or gracefully aged; and it is also often a bad thing: Avery Maharajah from last year, The Beast from 2005, etc. Check the dates! 3) Friday/Saturday nights are not a great time to casually walk the beer isles. SUPER busy. But, in the end, I always stop here and find some tasty and rare goodies. I’d recommend it, but buyer beware. A

How about you are in Newton, MA for a heavy work week, and every single day you can go though marty’s and choose any kind of beer you wanna!? This place is amazing!! I was there just for one week, and feel sad because have so many beers and I couldn’t drink all of it!! Has food there too, but this place is like a Beer Paradise. I loved it!

A nice liqour store to visit, especially since it was within wlaking distance of my friends house. Found lots of stuff I couldn’t get in SD. Man was my bag heavy on the way home from this trip. The staff was helpful and seemed knowledgable. Definitely a good liqour store to visit while in Allston.

Lots of singles, HUGE selection of styles and brands. Large clean space with friendly staff and reasonable prices. This is a go-to beer store for me in Boston. Nice staff that knows their stuff. Professionally-run business. Also has a great selection of gourmet foods, but this rating is just for the beer space.

This is my go to beer store. I don’t think the prices are that out of the ordinary. The selection is great however. They have a lot of singles and a lot of beers I haven’t seen anywhere else, such as beers from Armenia, Ukraine, and Russia. Sometimes I lose track of time looking at everything! They have a lot of Sam Adams, Stone, and Rogue; German and Belgian beers; and American microbrews. The lighting seems a little dim and sometimes you’ll see homeless people or junkies stop in. Also, be prepared to have your ID checked by two people. Their sandwiches are top quality. Theyhave a lot of wine available too.

Marty’s had a superior selection of imported bottles. However, the pricing is very high, despite what they say. If you’re looking for that hard to find microbrew or import, Marty’s is a good place to look. However be prepared to open your wallet.

So I finally made it here after hearing some good things for a while, but never really making an effort. Nice store in side, really looks packed with all things Gourmet. Big beer section boasts mostly a 6 pack/12 pack driven setup, but there were plenty of singles, and lots of coolerspace. Well organized and had your basic MA micro stuff. Looks like there is a lot of old stuff sitting on the shelves, probably due to being visited infrequently by beer geeks. Lots of Vapeur D’Antan 1996 and Saison De Pipaix 1996 bottles, reasonably priced. Only other unusual thing I found were some New Jersey River Horse micros, which while interesting, didnt seem that exciting as they were extremely expensive.
