Nice place on the corner of the main intersection in town. Street parking available. Seems like this is where all the locals go to hang out. Five is a mixture of a little bit new and a little bit old but it all comes out comfy and cozy. Fairly large bar as well as plenty of seating throughout. Decent tap list with a nice variety. Beers were average, with my favorite being the Porter. Did not eat, but they do have a food menu. Nice neighborhood type place.

Visited on a gorgeous sunny Saturday afternoon in August 2015. Funky blues music is fun. Tried nine brews, all decent but nothing that stood out particularly favourably. Food menu is short but we enjoyed the grilled cheese sandwich and a valley ham & cheese sandwich, made with local ingredients. Service was friendly. Would try again if in the area and looking for somewhere to eat.

2015-08-15. An interesting spot on the main drag of a small town. The decor and exterior are all very artsy. Our table is on the small stage where bands play at night. It definitely feels more like a cafe as per the name than a pub, despite the nice bar to one side. Fairly bright during our lunch visit. Food menu is relatively short but it all looked pretty good. We shared a grilled cheese (with pears) and a ham and cheese sandwich. Both are good, but the rich flavour of the grilled cheese ultimately wins out. (The ideal sandwich might be the grilled cheese with the pears swapped out for the ham.) Fresh bread (possibly made in house I’m not sure) and local cheese are fantastic. We actually tried to visit the cheese location down the road but we couldn’t find it (or perhaps it doesn’t have a retail shop). There were a number of beers on tap in a range of fairly conservative styles for the most part. Most were average, with an eye to accessibility and balance, with only a few standing out as more flavourful. Overall we enjoyed our visit but probably wouldn’t make a point of seeking it out again unless we were hungry.

This is a really cozy neighbourhood brewpub with a solid range of house beers and delicious food. We ordered a taster of each beer and they were well brewed. Friendly service and everyone seemed chill. A real nice surprise and worth a drive to the small town of Millheim.

This is a large old building right in the center of the small town of Millheim, a nice rural ride from State College. Easy street parking. Brewer was in attendance on a Saturday afternoon, chatting with a guy from Troegs sitting at the bar and sipping a black ale. Service at the bar was quick and attentive. Food was tasty and creative. Beers were solid, and available as full pours or sampler sizes of any or all. Worth the ride.

Another one in the middle of nowhere – acres and acres of farmland centered on a tight little traditional downtown – but stunningly gorgeous in the autumn, when the colors alone make the trip worthwhile. Place is pretty open-concept and was pretty darn busy for a lazy pre-noon Sunday brunch, which indicates its popularity as an actual café/restaurant/bistro. There’s a municipal parking lot less than a block away and on the other side of the street, though there’s also some street parking to be had and more with a bit of a walk.

Awesome local/green plan for food, awesome awesome and enthusiastic service. Cheapish sampler (8x 5oz for $10) and good! All of the beers had excellent balance and drinkability, though I really think the maltier beers are much more dialed-in at this point than the hop-forward ones, which are somewhat closer to average. Food was super delicious and fresh/local, touch more than I’d like to pay for some things here and there but worth every penny. I’ll be back!

Stopped in here yesterday for brunch after leaving Campground Brewdown. My first time visiting but I have always heard great things. The space is very nice, lots of tables and a decent sized bar. It was packed with lots of happy people eating and drinking the entire time we where there. Quality seemed to be high. My food was top notch, as were the beers. Our service left a lot to be desired. Our server was great...when she was around. We had to flag her down multiple times and she forgot a few beers had been ordered, twice. Selection was pretty good. They had eight of their regular beers on with three extra ones, including the ESB on cask. I got a DIPA and it was decent. Food was definitely the star of the show. We where there for brunch so I went with the blue cornmeal blueberry pancakes and they were great. I checked the rest of the menu and I saw quite a few things I would love to try. Overall a great little place that I will definitely return to when I am in the area.

Brewpub located on main street in a town 12 miles east of State College. Restored old building is bright and cheery with parking on the street and behind the building. No tv’s in the whole place so the focus is on conversation when they don’t have live music. They’re really big on local, sustainable food which leads to constantly changing menu items. Most of the beers were ok. They had 8 things on tap including a couple of seasonals. I think I’ll stop if i’m on my way to state college but I won’t make a special trip.

A real gem of a place somewhere you would never expect. Nice rustic atmosphere with live music on weekends. The food menu changes daily and the dishes are interesting and quite tasty. The beer is decent and well priced. Service is ok and the staff tend to know their beers fairly well. I always make a point of stopping in when I am near.

Visited this small town on a Saturday afternoon in late August. A very open, friendly-looking place with lots of open space, wood-based furniture, and bright sunlight streaming through the windows. Everything looked very new, except for the floor, I believe. There were ~8 beers on tap. Between me and my boyfriend, we tried the IPA, IIPA, Pale ale, Porter, and Pilsener, and all were quite good. The food menu has lots of vegan and local/organic options and whatever I tried (I think it was a turkey sandwich, can’t quite remember) was very good. While we were there a band was setting up to play although we left before they actually played. Overall, it was a great chill place to relax and enjoy a brew and I wish I’d stayed longer. It looks like their tap list has a bit of rotation, so I’m sure I’ll be back.
