No Longer In Business

Post-mortem review. This place is closed. I enjoyed my visit there. The two floor space had potential. The layout downstairs was original. The beers were bland but they had just started. The snacks were decent. I don’t know why it so quickly went out of business but I hope they start something else. It was friendly and it was just “different” and I wanted to remember that I had a snack and a few pints there.

Yhis is a new place in Lachute that in time could be very inviting but for now the beer is o.k. the food is lacking in taste. I had a smoked meat and it was very bland. I just hope for them that they improve, I will go again.

This new brewpub has been open for about 2 months now, but the main bar (on the 2nd floor) is far from being ready, so they have 2 large tables in the basement where the kitchen and brewery are set up. So for now, the ambiance is not representative of the finished building, of course. The beers were all simple and drinkable, with a few carbonation issues and a general lack of hoppiness to balance the sweet malt character of all beers. Nothing for the beer geek yet here. The smoked almonds and smoked duck rillette we had were good, but very shy on the smoke, which is weird for a place which advertises itself as being a smokehouse. The fact they don’t have a rauchbier is hard to understand as well. Anyway, this is not a bad beginning for a brewpub in the countryside, so I’ll be back in a few months when the full bar is ready and they’ve gotten used to their equipment.

Ma prenière visite était en fin d’octobre 2007, elle n’avait que deux mois et c’était loin d’être fini. 8 mois plus tart, j’ai revisité les lieux avec les pub principal (au deuxième étage) est belle et bien ouvert avec une terrasse devant le pub. L’ambiance est pas mal plus chaleureuse et confortable que ma dernière visite, mais j’imagine que le premier étage doit être des fois ouvert quant le deuxième est remplit à capacité, car il y a encore des taps. Les bières sont un peu mieux qu’avant et le menu de bouf est pas mal plus élaboré qu’avant, bien que j’ai rien mangé cette fois ici. Donc si vous voyagé entre Montréal et Ottawa, ce n’est pas mauvais comme arrêt!
