Tucked away in the corner of this eclectic and characterful market. The beer selection really wasn’t what some people made it out to be, a few very high quality Belgian beers, but no more than a couple of dozen overall. The main point to note, as others have pointed out, this is probably the cheapest outlet for Westvleteren 12 in the UK at £12 a pop. Only seen it cheaper at CAMRA festivals on a couple of occasions. The food was excellent, cooked it front of us and very nice to. The tea was also very good. It’s worth coming here to grab some Crepes, soak up the atmosphere and buy a Westy 12 for a takeaway. Very characterful.

We visited here Saturday 23rd August and met Matt, Sophie and Jeremy and his family. This place can be found on the first floor of the Market Hall close by a pet stall. It is clear that the success of this place has meant that it now appears to have outgrown this site and I understand a move to another much larger place even closer to the centre of town is imminent, I wish Matt and Sophie every success in the future. There are only a few tables but all bar one were full when we arrived in fact some others arrived after us and Matt & Sophie managed to magic up a table from elsewhere. The Crepes looked excellent with an imaginative and varied savoury and sweet selection of fillings to choose from, we were due to have our tea back at the camper soon so had to give the crepes a miss today. Matt has managed to source a wonderful selection of both UK and foreign (mostly Belgian beers as I recall) and at reasonable prices.Btw it also has a number of ciders, many of which were new to me. I had a Salopian Kinetic and Loz a Taras Boulba. I overheard Matt talking to a customer and describing a beer and you can tell he was well informed but also passionate about his beer. Really liked this place and if we come back to Shrewsbury next year I hope to visit the new venture which I understand will be a real beery must go to place in Shrewsbury when it opens.

This is a small market stall that sells crepes and a fairly small selection of Belgian beer plus a few locals. The main reason to visit is the fact that it stocks Westy 12. It’s 12 quid a bottle, but that’s about as cheap as you’ll find it int he UK I think.

A welcomed new comer to the Shrewsbury beer (and cider) scene. Tucked away in one corner of the lovely covered market hall. Here you’ll discover an Aladin’s Cave of goodies to drink. No draught offerings, but uncommon bottles from Belgium, and rare for Shropshire, London brews from Camden, Partizan and Kernel. Mat is the half of the double act that likes beer. Sophie, his French partner usually makes the crêpes and is the cider lover, Mat has found plenty of local and other interesting and unusual ones for her and their customers to try. There are enough seats for around twenty thin people with scatter cushions for extra comfort if you wish. Take away, or sit and drink, we stayed and chatted over a beer, others around were even eating crêpes! Please note the opening times though, this isn’t a night venue.
