Berăria Ursus

Was in Cluj for a day, so what else was there to do than try some beer. Right in the centre of the town, a nice pub, cool staff. Sadly, there were no samplers, so I had to do with full draughts (poor me). Very decent, although not much to choose from. Unfiltered was my favourite, but others were nice too. Reasonable prices, very decent food (although lacking some local cuisine), cool atmosphere.

Stopped in with the wife, not really expecting much. The place is pretty big and nicely decorated. The outer room is hugely smoky, but fortunately the back room was smoke free. I tried to order a sampler, which didnt get me far, so in the end I ordered half liters of each of the three Ursus beers on tap. The black was the star of the evening, for sure. Food was pretty good Romanian fare, served with a hot pepper as garnish that I imagine I was one of the few patrons to have eaten. Service was excellent, prices were reasonable. I would certainly go back.

Right off the main square, a large and impressive beer hall with arched doorways, murals and a nice tankard collection decor. Extensive food menu, including special lunch/ happy hour deals and a good vegan selection. Service was slow and unattentive and since we were short in time we had to assertively cancel our food order. Serves as Ursus flagship pub and as such offers 3 Ursus taps (black, premium and premium unfiltered), Bottled Ursus pilsener and if this is not enough cheesy lager for you, there are Grolsch and Pilsner Urquell on tap as well. As far as we could tell there wasn’t much in the area beer-wise and Cluj being Ursus hometown - this is worth the visit.
