Caves da Cerveja

Owned by Unicer. Few taps and styles. The decoration and situation is nice. Very pleasant walk by from Porto.

Modern, purpose-build bar among a bunch of shops and bars that are next to the river (but sadly without a view on it or the other side), where all Port houses are. This place is all about pretence. Pretending to be a brewpub, pretending to serve unique craft brews... but even the preding to be a beer bar fails. Sure, there’s 5 or so taps of various styles, and then some bottles, but it’s all factory produced and boring stuff. People seem to come here more for the food (surprisingly, as it’s just okay and certainly not cheap for Porto). So unless you just want to visit/tick a Portuguese place (like me), it’s not really worth your time.

Another one of the chain of Republica Cerveja - all owned by Unicer. I think the stout is SuperBock stout re-labelled and sold at a premium. But for Portugal it’s nice to have a choice of several styles.

There are two locals called Caves da Cerveja. Both of them are located in the riverside of Vila Nova de Gaia (Duero River). In one of them, front of cellars, I was dinning, it was really good eat a "francesinha". When I was at the other I was seated in the terrace drinking a beer. In both of them you can drink all beers of Republica da Cerveja microbrew and some beers brewed by Unicer.

Although looks very much a convincing modern brewpub I don’t believe it is (beers brewed by Unicer). However it still sells something different by Portuguese standards and is far more into giving off the ’brewhouse’ feel than its sister bar in Lisbon. Not all beers were on but did include the Cerjeva Artesanal and the Puro Malte. Food was good. Bar is in modern development on Vila Nova riverfront overlooking Porto, just below the port warehouses.
