Nice place with a brewery and winery about a 50 minute train ride from Tokyo. Walked around trying to get to the main building’s entrance but the whole building was covered up for some work. Went over to their La Terrace restaurant for lunch and beers. Bottles available in their gift shop building including a few beers not currently on draft.

8 of their beers available on draft with an 800 yen sampler set available with their seasonal and three regular selections. Probably 3-4 ounces per sampler glass. All solid beers, mostly well done pilsners and lagers with a few ales. Beer menu is mostly in Japanese but they at least include English titles.

Food was good, not too pricey with the lunch specials. Mostly Japanese hamburg, steak, pub fare. Even though it’s Japan, portions were a bit smaller than expected.

Good service, I was able to get a Japanese waitress fluent in English which was nice. Asked nicely to try a sampler with the four seasonals and she came back saying they don’t normally do it but would make an exception for me. Well worth a trip from Tokyo.

This is a large complex in a pretty setting (during cherry blossom season anyway) about an hour train ride from Tokyo. The historic brewery in the center is under long-term renovation, but you can visit the brewery (by arrangement), or gift shop, or drink in tents, sort of like Japanese Oktoberfest. The beers were tasty and creative, and the food was OK; no English menus though. Worth the journey.

Winery/brewery a bit outside of Tokyo. We got a tour of the brewery when we came there. Had 8 beers on tap, some regulars and some seasonal. Good food but service was a bit distracted.

A little hike out of Tokyo but worth it. Fairly modern and spacious drinking hall with good service and good food. Was quite busy when we were there on a Tuesday evening, so might be worth booking. At the moment they have an insanely good all you can drink offer: 1500 yen from 5 till 8.30. Food was good value too. 8 of their beers on tap, three regulars and five seasonals.

Great experience. The grounds of this place are lovely to wander around. There is a lot of history here. The main dining hall is fairly stright forward though. Good service. 8 Ushiku beers on tap, but all served in good condition. The helles is superb and the seasonals were very good. The big glass is great value, especially if you ask for a small head. 680 yen for some 800 - 900ml or so! An average pint in Tokyo (470-560ml) is 900 - 1400 yen...The small glass is tiny and still 480ml, so not really worth it. Lovely surrounds - I imagine drinking outside here in summer would be a real pleasure. Highly recommended as it is easily accessible by train.

As TimE writes, a really good place to go if you want to drink large, cheap, glasses of good German style beers. They had 4 regulars and 4 seasonals on when I went, all very good. The large mugs are cheap as hell, though it was lunch time and I went for the lesser-value glasses. You can get a tasting set for ¥700 on weekdays. Good food too. No one in the restaurant really knows much about beer, though.

Quality*volume/price= probably the best deal in Japan for the beer you get here. 680 yen for 750ml of delicious brew. You can save money if you have three beers plus train cost, instead of drinking in central Tokyo. Usually eight taps. Very good pub grub as well. Lovely place with a winery, museum, etc. Definitely worth the 1hr trip from Tokyo.
