74 Alright guys, this is a newish place right on the corner of 106 and Amsterdam, if you couldn’t guess from the name. It used to be a super-seedy bar that you just didn’t want to go into, but it’s since transformed itself into the only respectable place uptown to get a decent beer. I went last night with a good friend of mine, and I had a Southern Tier Choklat and a ST Gemini, while she had a Duvel and a Rogue Dead Guy. So decent selection of beers. Not as outstanding as say Gingerman, but a hell of a lot closer to Columbia which is a big point in its favor.
The music was way too loud, and the service was adequate, but I was so excited to get to pretty good beers this far uptown that it didn’t matter. Reasonable prices too-6 bucks a glass for all four beers we had. It’s a dollar less than the standard price at Blind Tiger, so I guess given the location it could be cheaper.
Point is they had some nice, very above average beers in a location that is totally devoid of decent bars. I’ll be coming back often.
