Traditional corner pub on Portland St with a good range of Holts beers on cask & keg. Good to tick a couple of new beers

Very nice place. Large beer selection (mostly Holts) so good for ticks. They had two milds on offer, the Mild on cask and the Black on Tap. Still, I just had two ales and left.

Came here for Protz 300 ticks. Had tyhose and then had to inform the mate I'd met there that we would not be playing pool as I was on a ticking mission! Average city pub doing food and admittedly a good array of Holts' beers and the brewpub they own (and forget the name of). Seemed relatively touristy based on the different languages I overheard. Wouldn't aim to return unless I was after Holts ticks.

A good place to go to for Holts ticks as they seem to have the full range. I had a pint of mild and it was in good nick.

Welcome to Holts à la mode. This is a brewery that makes their pubs from hardwood not softwood - intended to last. The beer range is electric compared to where it was. God save Cloudwater and Marble if Holts were ever to decide to do Imperial stout, vanilla porter or a double IPA - or make any beer outside their comfort zone. Meanwhile enjoy a proper solid boozer in strong colours.

Visited on 18th September 2016. Large corner pub on Portland St, plenty of room in this busy pub, there is an upstairs area but didn’t head up there. A decent line up of Holts beers on the bar, had a pint of mild and it was in decent condition, prices good as was the service. Solid Holts house.

Quaint corner bar. Bar itself is small but had half a dozen Holts offerings. Crowd was all locals in their Sunday best, and everyone seemed to know everyone else. Beers were tasty enough. I didn’t see any food on a Sunday afternoon.

Can be very popular in the evenings, but you might have the place to yourself in the daytime. This pub is set over two floors in a new building on the corner of Portland and Princess Streets with China Town behind it. The rooms are not too big the seating is comfortable enough, mainly around the wall areas. Food is served with a more defined dining area upstairs. Holts bitters are on several taps with a slightly greater range of bottles available in the fridges behind the bar. The only one of three pubs in a row that has WiFi.

Very traditional looking boozer, one of the many for Joseph Holt, a significant regional brewer. Good atmosphere and a full range of the Holt beers on cask. Didn’t try the food but there seemed to be a substantial offering. I had the Mild which didn’t excite me but apart from the that, seems like a decent alehouse.
