Piccadillys Brew Pub and Restaurant

Sadly (or maybe happily), they stopped brewing six months ago. The last to go was their hefeweizen. We saw only macros in the fridge, although we didn’t look closely, and their website lists a handful of macros. Too many other places in town now.

Located downtown with a parking garage (50 cents an hour) behind. Definitely neighborhood bar feel. Large center bar with tables around. 3 house beer on tap, two of which they blend for two more house "beers." the beers were thin, watery, nearly tasteless and overpiced at $8 for a sampler. Three macro taps and lots of bottles, though it seems like Sam Adams was about as good as they got. I would have liked the ambience if it were for the beer being so bad and the annoying drunk woman who kept wanting me to drink the beers like shots. Definitely not a good experience and I got out of there quick.

What a waste of a brewery. This place starts out looking nice and then you notice the BMC light taps next to the house taps. If that were not enough clue, the cooler behind the bar is 3/4 full of BMC, with some Sam Adams to make it look like craft beer belongs. The service absolutely sucked for my first and hopefully last visit, though I may go back just to taunt the brewer. There are 3 house beers, I think, though someone here thinks they have more. The idea for the Brown and Amber is to tap-blend two beers in different proportions, which leads you to understand why there are BMC taps. The beer is absolutely flat, making the rest of it even worse.

Not a bad place... I was a bit disappointed that a couple of beers were simply mixes of two of their other beers. Other than that, it was a nice place to catch some football on the TVs. The staff was very friendly and so were the patrons. I didn’t get to sample to food so no rating for that. Overall, a nice place. I’ll definitely visit again if I’m ever in Winchester.

Not sure what to say about this place. Large, dark interior, sort of plain and dreary looking paint and paneling. Large bar in the middle of the floor-plan, five beers offered on their menu but really they only make three: the red ale and brown ale are both blends from-tap of their pils and stout. Great. I kept thinking how sad I’d feel if this was the only brewpub within 50 miles of where I lived, and that made me appreciate having a place like Otto’s near me even more.

I will agree with the other reviews of Piccadilly’s. They have done a great job with the warehouse space, and the atmosphere is really very nice. The service was excellent, and I found the food to be excellent as well. The beer? That is another story. They only had 4 beers on tap on my visit, a witbier, a hefeweizen, a pilsner and a stout. I started with the pilsner, which wasn’t all that bad, but wasn’t very flavorful either. I then tried their "Harvest Moon", a Belgian witbier, and this one was actually a pretty decent example of the style. I got some good orange peel and corriander flavors, and it was a refreshing, enjoyable, brew. Next up was the Stonewall Stout. This beer was horrible. Had a very off, very odd, yeasty flavor that was hard to take. I struggled to finish it. Would love to see the beers improve here, as Piccadilly’s has the potential to be a great brewpub. That is not the case at the moment as all but one of their beers are sub par in my opinion. If you are in Winchester, I say it is worth a stop. It might not be a great brewpub yet, but it is a great restaurant, and worth a visit for the food. That being said, if you are going just for the beer, you will be dissapointed. Hope the beer improves.

I can only 100% echo what hopscotch says. This is a really nice bar in an interesting town that doesn’t have much to offer otherwise in terms of decent bars. The staff and patrons were so welcoming that, on our first day in the US, after hours of travelling, we struggled to escape without breaking the 24 hours without sleep barrier. The food was decent brewpub fare with some good light bites, including deep fried battered pickles (which we in the UK would call gherkins) which is a positively brilliant bar snack. Unfortunately, whilst the kit is all shiny and new, the beers are pretty dull. I wouldn’t say any of them are in any way unpleasant, they just don’t have much presence and, frankly, most of them taste fairly similar. Still a nice spot for a beer though.

Kit beer! Nice place. Good food. Friendly staff. Nice TVs. Aesthetically pleasing atmosphere... but, the beer? Plenty of macro swill available in bottles and kit beer! Lots of room for improvement beer-wise.
