64 There’s a bit of a late 20th century time-warp going on with this restaurant that also acts as a bar. The exterior of the building can’t escape the look, but the inside also feels a little dated despite the fact it is a very well kept place. The river Irwell is woefully underdeveloped and has undergone very little beautification unlike the rest of Manchester’s centre in recent years, but this bar offers a chance to enjoy its banks and location looking across at the new Spinningfields development from what is Salford’s closest bar to its dominant neigbouring city. Ales are important to this bar which runs its own beer festival each year and on a sunny day its terrace is well used. |
70 A former dock station by the river Irwell in the border area between Manchester and Salford, and, in fact, within five minutes walk from the Town Hall. A lovely bar/restaurant with a separate dining area at the rear of a cozy and warming room. Offers six interesting cask ales, including house ale from Redwillow. Beers from Nøgne Ø were spotted on the bottle menu. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Classic Tamla Motown music during our stay. The food is supposed to be good and so is the riverside patio in the summertime. A good banter, this one (visited, 22.01.2013). |
