76 Didn't find it right away, but eventually did. Walked in and found 2 patrons and a bartender. Very small indeed. Had 2 Beer Engine Beers and 3 Monnik ones along with a few others including a cider. What this place lacks in beer selection, it makes up with the atmosphere: nice lighting, wall art, friendly bartender and patrons, and cozy but still clean. Would love to go back even though that is out of the way to most places I go to. Does flights and the bartender carried it for me to my seat. |
62 Hidden down an alley, but when you enter, the place looks good. I entered on a Saturday afternoon, had a flight, talked a little, and that was it. There are possibilities here, but the beer gets mixed reviews - a couple are decent, others are quite forgettable. |
78 Unassuming place from the outside. Inside there is a nice little bar, some bar seating and you can look at the smallest brewery I’ve ever seen in a commercial place. Service was good, the guy said he was filling in so he didn’t know much about the beer but made sure we were served promptly. Selection was good, about 4-5 beers they brew and another 4-5 of guest taps. They fill growlers to go and at the time they had Bo & Luke for growler fills, I was really tempted to bring one back to AK. Prices were really good for the quality of beer they had. This place is awesome, the bartender said they were going to expand to Louisville, hope they keep this place going because it was awesome. |
70 I am not sure what this place used to be, but it is an interesting space, nonetheless. The bar and small number of tables seem to be made from reclaimed bowling alley wood. Service was the bartender, who was able to answer all of our questions about the beer; I cannot confirm whether or not he was the owner. The selection is about five of their beers and seven other taps of interest. There were some tapas options for food, but I didn’t eat there. Beers were well priced, and samples were usually $1 each, unless it was a high gravity offering. Worth a return trip, and a beautiful area as well. |
84 The Beer Engine is terrific and has some great house beers. The guest taps are always something you have been wanting to try or haven’t had yet. Brian is a top notch guy that is helping do something Central Kentucky has needed for a long time. |
