The Thirsty Dawg

It appears that all the other ratings are from owners/family/friends. The downside first. The location is not great and not easy to find if you’re not from the area. The store is attached to a redemption center and is bit dark and dingy. I took a chance with some singles and didn’t notice that it was from 2010 and had gone bad. Now the good stuff, there is about half of the beer in coolers with a large beer cave. The staff is helpful and friendly. The selection is impressive and rivals that of other beer stores I’ve been to in Central and Southern Maine. There’s no chance to find most of these beer they have anywhere else in Northern Maine. I will definitely be stopping next time I’m passing through Houlton.

well let me begin by telling you that last night was the first time I went to this little gem in the rough. I was invited for a wine/beer tasting. I liked the place so much that I had to join this website to leave an opinion. I woke up this morning with this place on my mind and how much it blew me away not knowing about this sooner. I love it ! So many selections.. little suggestion cards displayed in front of the beverage on what it goes well with as far as food goes. little barcode on how it rates through this website and first time using my scanner I was like "wow" Place is clean.. inviting atmosphere ..wondering what’s around the every corner? another selection.. sassy labels ..local breweries ..put together your own little six pack.. huge beer cooler. A must tell all my friends sort of place. Need super bowl party stuff? go there.. need a bridal party bottle? go there.. need a drink after work.. well.. go there. One thing that would make it even better would be to make it into a bar/pub serving beer from the counter.. definitely a place to see.

Very unassuming from the outside. Pleasantly surprised at the huge beer & wine selection. Very well displayed. Cozy & quaint. Fortunate to have this big city offering in our small town. Kudos

Crazy that I have never been to this place before yesterday..will be suggesting to every customer that walks through my door. A must see local attraction. Unbelievably huge amount of treasures nicely displayed on each shelf labeled with suggestions of what kind of food it would be best served with ..plus a scanner barcode to rate the beverage.. who knew??. Owner is a pleasant knowledgeable gentleman who obviously takes pride in his wonderful establishment. Highly recommend. very impressive.

Best beer selection in the state of Maine. Owner is passionate about what he sells and is very knowledgeable. A must stop if you are in the county!

If you like good beer go to this place. It is a hidden gem in Houlton. Very knowledgeable owner and great selection of international and domestic beers.

Great selection of beers from all over the world. I drive over an hour and a half one way just to shop at "The Dawg" Always seem to be expanding and getting new beers in stock.

An oasis for beer in Northern Maine. Friendly service and a great selection. Absolutely no need to shop for beer anywhere else.

great store. if you enjoy drinking, you’ll enjoy this place. have something for everybody. if they don’t have what you’re looking for, they’ll be sure to get it for you. owner is helpful and knowledgeable. i visit almost everyday. plus, after you finish your brew, they’ll take your bottles! can’t beat that.
