No Longer In Business

Stopped in here about 9 or 10 AM on a Friday morning. Street parking only, but I had stopped at a coffee shop a few blocks down, so I already had my parking spot taken care of. Metered parking. As you walk in, there’s displays on your right and left with local foods, straight ahead are a few rows of wine, in the back left there’s home brewing supplies and ingredients, and in the back right is the beer selection and a cigar humidor. The place seemed pretty laid back. The beer selections wasn’t extensive and the prices were a little high, but at least I could do a mixed six pack. Overall, if I was in need of a cigar, I would come here, but for beer, the Kroger in Suncrest is going to be far superior.

Located on the main drag in Downtown Morgantown in a rather nondescript building. They sell mainly wine, coffee, and tea. They have may e 75 kinds of beer in the back of the store. Mainly regional craft and a few Belgians with some BMC mixed in. The prices were outrageous some of the highest I’ve ever seen. $20 for a bottle of abrux is bad enough but $13.50 for a sixer of Sea Dog Blueberry is just taking the piss. The place is staffed by what seems like middle schoolers who kept asking me if I needed help every three seconds. They didn’t seem to do it to be nice but because they were afraid I’d nick something. If this is the second best bottle shop in town you have my permission to move.

I used to give the folks at SI quite a bit of my wine/cheese/tobacco/beer money. Their prices on homebrew supplies were always really high, but hey, when you were in a bind, you were in a bind. One day I tried to engage one of the ladies in a dialogue about their homebrew supply prices, suggesting that they could do themselves and the local community a favor by increasing their supply and decreasing their prices. I told them I’d love to give the "local guy" all of my business, but at their prices it just didn’t make sense. Later I found out I’d been banned from the premises for my "constructive criticism" and was asked not to return. I haven’t. Poor selection, poor help, insane prices. They seem to be doing fine without me... that’s fine, I’m doing fine without them.

They don’t have anything special here, and most of the beers here can be found at Krogers or Ashebrooke’s for a cheaper price, but this is the only place in Morgantown where you can buy singles. The employees are usually girls in their 20’s who are friendly but not too knowledgeable about beer (the store’s main focus is gourmet desserts and wines). Worth a stop I suppose.

Nice little shop on High Street in Morgantown. Due to beer laws in this wonderful state, Beer over 6.0 ABV is a strict no-no, thus we have to take that into account when discussing selection. This place has a pretty decent selection for Morgantown. Mostly Rogue, Magic Hat, Abita, Wild Goose, and an array of imports. Usually pale lagers from different countries. So, decent selection, for where we are. The girls that work there are always nice and friendly. They also have a nice little wine and coffee selection too, as well as other stuff here and there. As far as beer goes though, kind of pricey. But nothing too unexpected. $7 for a Rogue Bomber. $8 for a Lindman’s lambic. Singles generally hover around $1.50. Updated!: Beer laws in WV changed maxiumum ABV to 12% Now carries several Trappists as well as some of the bigger Rogues, and Imperial Sam Adams. A growing selection. Probably the best in Morgantown.
