82 /100 Tjaps (Bar) LEEGHWATER 5 Visited during Taphorst fesrival in february 2024. Nice place. Nice staff. Prices are on the high side, but they do serve great beers at this festival. Atmosphere is good, staff is acting very friendly and polite. Nice place. |
74 /100 MIJNBOUWWEG 15 Visited early Sunday afternoon, place inside was empty waiting for the crowd. Nice spacious, nice view of the brewery. Quite a selection all 20 taps were filled. Menu is limited, had English Breakfast. Because I ws driving had only one beer, which was OK. This brewer is going places. |
86 /100 Hoptimaal (Beer Store) LEEGHWATER 14 Fine beer shop. Friendly staff. Interesting collection to buy. Not your everyday beers. Both local and international. Lots of more expensive specials. Worth visiting. They also have a webshop. (6-2023). |
78 /100 Hoptimaal - Web Store (Internet-based) LEEGHWATER 14 Good web shop with a large selection of Dutch, European and US-American craft beer. High standard overall, but so are the prizes. Shipping to Germany was quick, packaging is average. Would definitely order again, especially for the local Amersfoort/Utrecht stuff. |
74 /100 GROENMARKT 13 New taproom from De Eem located conveniently close to De Dikke Koning. Warm reception from the staff. 15 taps, ten of which are by De Eem and five guest taps. Flights of 3 available for 10 euros. Food menu seemed serviceable to grab a quick bite. This place seems to be just starting up but I will be back to check on how they're doing. |
74 /100 MIJNBOUWWEG 15 Nice spacious brewpub, overlooking the brewery behind big windows. Terrace outside. Two kilometers from Amersfoort train station. Good music, not too loud. Friendly staff. Visited on a thursday afternoon and was the only visitor at that moment. 21 beers on tap, nice mix of own beers and other (inter)national beers. Pulled pork was very tasty. Quite a lot of own brews and collabs available in can and bottle, for drinking over there or for take-away. |
80 /100 Tjaps (Bar) LEEGHWATER 5 Located next door to the Hoptimaal shop, as I understand owner is the same. We found the place by accident and almost missed it since it wasn't that obvious there's a beer bar inside. It's a brand new place with modern, industrial and somewhat cold interior, despite the few details like plants and candles. 15 taps on the tap list which seemed a bit IPA centric since there were 6 IPAs. Some quality imperial stouts like CBS and Double Barrel Parabola. Kind service. They do have food, but we didn't try any. Worth checking out. |
86 /100 Hoptimaal (Beer Store) LEEGHWATER 14 Medium sized store with entrance on the outside of the mall. There are about 6 or 7 double fridges filled with beer. Hundreds of bottles on the shelves. Wouldn't be surprised if there was 1k beers inside. Lots of Dutch and imported stuff. There are some US bottles you won't see in other lowlands shops (New Image). Good service. Prices are a bit high, but still acceptable. Most of the stuff is available on line these days, but if you're looking for brick and mortar shop this one leaves little to be desired. |
80 /100 Hoptimaal - Web Store (Internet-based) LEEGHWATER 14 Neat website with really good selection and few beers I haven't seen anywhere else. Prices may be a tad higher, but they do offer a free shipping after a threshold and that's a big plus. I had two different experiences when ordering. First order came fast without problems, but I've noticed beers are not protected with bubble wrap and the cans took some beating. Second order never got to me since something was broken and it was supposedly shipped back to the shop (not sure if they got it). Communication with Hoptimaal went smooth, they were quick to answer and refunded money without problems. Not sure if they changed something in the meantime, but I'd suggest protecting bottles/cans better. |
78 /100 Hoptimaal - Web Store (Internet-based) LEEGHWATER 14 Ordered 15/11/2020 and again before Brexit. Very interesting selection of beers especially the Brazilian stock. Service was fine, as was packaging. Still get their emails about new beer drops but sadly have not been able order again this year. |
78 /100 Hoptimaal - Web Store (Internet-based) LEEGHWATER 14 Have used the Hoptimaal webshop (same address as here the beer store) so basing review on the webhop experience (Dutch admin feel free to move this if a new web only "place" entry will be made) - Used this place twice. The first time the order between DPD and Post Nord went missing somewhere around Køge harbour, no idea what happened. But despite Post Nord giving me the run around on status/who was to blame I contacted Hoptimaal via their FB chat they were excellent and issued an immediate refund taking the issue away from myself the customer, great customer service. For my second order some months later the parcel arrived fine, well packed and only took a few days. Website is well layed out, prices and delivery cost good. Overall a very good experience. |
76 /100 Hoptimaal (Beer Store) LEEGHWATER 14 Nice, not that big, beershop in a shopping mall. Large free parking nearby. Friendly personnel. Nice beers, including locals, Dutch and International stuff. Also harder to find beers. Prices are ok. Worth a visit. |
76 /100 't Witte Konijn (Bar) HOF 8 Visited on a hot summer afternoon. Outside patio was packed, but not a problem because I like to hang out at the bar anyway. Accommodating tap list with five house beers, some local and international craft. Pleasantly surprised to find a fairly obscure American Wild Ale on tap. Staff obviously know their stuff and willing to chat. I'll definitely revisit. |
74 /100 MIJNBOUWWEG 15 Pretty big and dark, nice place for a meal, beer selection not bad. Not only own brew for sale, but also interesting other stuff, I like that. (2-3-2019). |
100 /100 De Dikke Koning (Bar) APPELMARKT 18 Visited February 7th. Good selection. Great knowledge with the staff. Gave a description of the type of beer I wanted and recieved a more than perfect beer. |
80 /100 MIJNBOUWWEG 15 Located in a old warehouse just a 20 minutes walk from the city center. The beer menu is quite large and there is a good ratio between local and foreign beers. We didn't have a full meal, though the tortillas with pulled pork were damn good. Would love to come by soon again. |
76 /100 't Witte Konijn (Bar) HOF 8 First visit March 2019. Interesting selection of beers from around the world. Staff with knowledge and customerfocus. Certainly worth more visits. |
68 /100 De Dikke Koning (Bar) APPELMARKT 18 Somewhere in between a pub and a sports bar, located where Café Zomaar used to be. Could use a little more atmosphere. Solid beer selection with plenty of small local Dutch breweries as well as internation craft. Pleased to find a Pipeworks IPA I hadn't tasted before. Worth a stop, friendly guys serving us. |
72 /100 Café Marktzicht (Bar) LIEVE VROUWEKERKHOF 2A Update (March 16, 2019): Revisited to find that the beer selection has certainly improved. Besides their usual tap and bottle selection, roughly 45 rotating can and bottles are available. I noticed Alefarm, Mikkeller NYC & San Diego, Uiltje, Põhjala amongst others.
Old review (March 22, 2015): Place looks great, selection is decent but nothing special. Still, the friendly waiter met my challenge and got me a beer I hadn’t tasted yet. Not a bad place to stop for a brew. |
76 /100 Long Johns Pub (Bar) KRANKELEDENSTRAAT 20 Irish Pub with a good vibe right next to Boothill Saloon. Beer selection has improved markedly going by earlier reviews, with about 45 cans and bottles available, a lot of them dependable UK breweries such as Cloudwater, Magic Rock, Left Handed Giant. Prices are decent and service is enthusiastic about the beer selection. Pub food available. Worth stopping by. |
72 /100 Boothill Saloon (Bar) KRANKELEDENSTRAAT 16 Nice USA style Rock Bar with the appropriate dressing. Wooden interior, taps coming from a Harley Davidson engine, pictures of American rock and singer/songwriter legends adorning walls. Tap selection is pretty small but they had CBS and an Epic (Utah) on draft. Their USA craft beer fridge counted 22 beers when I visited, among them Pipeworks, Griffin Claw, Old Nation, 18th Street, stuff that has been hitting a lot of bottle shops and bars recently. All in all much better than when I first visited four years ago. *** Update: Beer selection seems a bit toned down recently. |
80 /100 't Witte Konijn (Bar) HOF 8 Big place on the beautiful Hof square. Good big selection of modern craft beer, with a healthy dose of more classical, mostly Belgian beers as well. A lot to chose from on Draft, including three house beers when I visited. Staff was of course very knowlegdeable, but I did not expect otherwise. Tried some of the food, it was very tasty, nice that they paid serious attention to that as well. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the location of the place. All in all, it's a new place with lots of interesting new beers and good people, so I should visit more often. |
70 /100 Café Marktzicht (Bar) LIEVE VROUWEKERKHOF 2A A little bar on the square with the obligatory terrace and bar in one corner inside. The selection is mainly focused on Belgian beers with a few locals but a little fridge at the corner of the bar holds some more unusual and imported gems (at a higher price). Service was super helpful, the beer that The Missus wanted had run out and they were nice enough to run off to a nearby bar and bring back a glass they had on tap. |
72 /100 Boothill Saloon (Bar) KRANKELEDENSTRAAT 16 A spacious American styled bar with various nooks and crannies and assorted seating. There’s also a nice looking beer garden out back though too cold to be there when I visited. Classic rock music and a nice woodern look with little touches throughout. The beer selection is features American craft on tap and by bottle/can. I opted for a couple of Pipeworks IPAs which were decent and fresh. Friendly and helpful service. Not particularly cheap on the cans but then it is US imports. |
66 /100 MIJNBOUWWEG 15 Big new place in an industrial place of the cty, just outside of the centre. Good selection of only their own beers. About 20 taps, but not all were filled. Some bottles as well. Solid selection of various styles, with some more exclusive brews as well. They have a small food menu, but what thet have is very tasty. Service still has to find its way, but that's normal for a new place. All in all it's a nice place, but the downside is the pricing. Beers and food are expensive, especially for a place outside the centre. I don't know whether they need to do this to be able to return the investment, but this might prevent me from visiting more often. |
64 /100 Long Johns Pub (Bar) KRANKELEDENSTRAAT 20 Shared pub with Boothill Saloon. Where the Boothill Saloon is a bit like a hardrock cafe, this Long Johns Pub is more like a UK pub mixed with Dutch old brown style. They share a beautiful terrace in the back at the water. Beer selection is more towards belgian classics and middle of the road BrewDog. I have always opted to go to the Boothill part, as there is not much ticks available here. |
86 /100 Boothill Saloon (Bar) KRANKELEDENSTRAAT 16 Great UK or USA style bar, lots of wooden stuff, place for a band to play and quite spacious for Dutch standards. Outside is a large garden near the canals, which is shared by the restaurant next to it. Good atmosphere, bit of a Hard Rock Cafe audience. Very good and cheap fingerfood can be ordered. We got the taco chips and the mixed cheese/sausage platter, which were great. Burgers seemed solid and for 8 euros a plate quite cheap. Service was friendly and enthusiastic, maybe not the die hard knowledgeable guys as they probably were more liquor based before, serving shots and all those popular stuff. Small selection from tap, just 6 beers, but always a local Rock City and a couple of hip breweries like Prairie. Bottle selection is really good (supplied by USA beers I guess), with Toppling Goliaths, Prairies and CBS. Hopefully they will keep up with the selection, instead of jumping on the next hype train. I had a good time, will definitely come back more often. |
72 /100 Boothill Saloon (Bar) KRANKELEDENSTRAAT 16 Nice bar with decent rock music. 4 taps with 2 specials and 2 regulars (pilsener and goose island ipa). Quite some bottled amwrican craft beers. Friendly service. Prices are more than decent. Would probably visit again. |
62 /100 KLEINE SPUI 18 Small cafe/brewery, took 7 samples, service was ok, could be better. prices were ok, beer was meh or ok. it worth a visit for the ticks. Bottles to take home were also there. |
70 /100 De Dikke Koning (Bar) APPELMARKT 18 Small cafe in a quiet part of the city centre, large selection of beers, including many local beers. worth checking out. prices were somewhat high though |
60 /100 De Dikke Koning (Bar) APPELMARKT 18 I was surprised this place wasn’t listed yet, since they have a large bottle list with some interesting beers on it: besides the standard Dutch and Belgian beers, they have some bottles from smaller breweries and some special editions. The place itself isn’t very special, but they have a lot of outdoor seating on a cosy tranquil square. Definitely worth checking out when you’re around. |
52 /100 HoogVuur (Restaurant) OUDE FABRIEKSTRAAT 26 Restaurant in the restyled Prodent factory. It doesn’t serve a huge amount of beers, but they are all from the city or region, which is nice. For example beers of Eem, Louis Loyal, VanDeStreek. The place looks good and has a lot of outdoor seating. We went there for lunch, the food was ok, but not spectacular. |
46 /100 Albert Heijn - Leusderweg (Grocery Store) LEUSDERWEG 79 Usual AH assortment with a few exceptions when I visited. Phoenix Lentebier, Kees Spring Blossom and Oedipus Vogelen. |
48 /100 De Natuurwinkel (Grocery Store) LEUSDERWEG 27 This store is loaded with natural falacy woo. So if you allergic to that, take precaution. The whole place has this typical organic smell. Dunno what it is exactly but manure would be an accurate description. Hold your breath. You really need to cross to whole store to reach the beers. They have Peak Organic, Leijreken, De leckere and some others. They also have quite some sake. Really no clue how special, but prices range from 7 euro to 50. |
58 /100 Plus Amersfoort (Grocery Store) ARNHEMSEWEG 4 Actually pretty decent for a grocery store in a way that it is even much better than the average liquorstore. You won’t find rarities here but they have Bax, Kees, several common De Molen, Eem, Rock city, Oedipus and other Dutch micros. |
32 /100 Sligro (Grocery Store) COBOLWEG 7 This is a store for people who are listed at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. You can’t shop here other wise. Been there once or twice. Selection is mostly macro and the usual Belgians. Not interesting if you are looking for ticks. |
82 /100 Bierwinkel Hop (Beer Store) KROMMESTRAAT 56 Nice small rectangular shop with lots of different Dutch micro’s, Belgian classics, UK and US craft, and even catering some country ticks. Quite some unusual and unfamiliar bottles on the shelves, quite interesting. The more interesting the more expensive, off course, a good place for ticks and quality craft. Young fella very busy stacking shelves, very low profile, friendly and approachable. I don’t doubt he would have had an answer if I had any questions for him. Found some nice bottles, learned a lot of new breweries. Will visit again when in the area. |
58 /100 KLEINE SPUI 18 Unexpectedly walked past a brewery taproom that was also open on this sunday. Short visit, bought some bottles to go for a fair price. Spotted 8 taps; 7 housebrews and 1 gulpener. Variety of bottles and gift packs for sale. Place was quiet. Small group of locals getting shitfaced and amusing themselves and a friendly lady behind the bar. |
68 /100 Boothill Saloon (Bar) KRANKELEDENSTRAAT 16 Less sophisticated (or pretentious!) than the nearby Marktzicht, more like an American dive bar, rock n roll pumping out, open till late, etc. Beerwise less choice but on tap were U.S. beers but they also had several local bottles, I was impressed with Rock City Amersfoort Pale Ale as was hopped to high heaven, and even more impressed to meet the brewer there also drinking it!! |
60 /100 Café Marktzicht (Bar) LIEVE VROUWEKERKHOF 2A A nice bar in the middle of town. For the Netherlands a good selection, mainly bottled. Let down by poor service, both waiters were constantly ignoring me even when my glass was empty! |
72 /100 Boothill Saloon (Bar) KRANKELEDENSTRAAT 16 Cozy brown cafe in the centre of Amersfoort. Has the vibe of a saloon, with nice classic rock en hard rock from the speakers. Good beer selection, with a mix of Dutch and American craft beers, inlcuding a fridge with a good selection of craft beer. The nice thing is that the bottles differ from the usual selection. The people are friendly, and they told me they regularly get new beers. Food is tasty and proper for a saloon. Prices are reasonable. All in all, I really don’t understand why this wasn’t on ratebeer and why I never visited before. Will definitely come back. They don’t have the largest, but surely the most interesting selection of craft beer in Amersfoort. UPDATE, they do need to watch the age of their hoppy beers, had some old IPA's recently, lowered the score a bit. |
68 /100 Van Zanten (Bar) BLOEMENDALSESTRAAT 2 Nice pub, located just a bit outside the old city center. Friendly staff. Not much special on tap (Leffe, weizens, the usual) but a nice bottle list with stuff from Brewdog, Kompaan, Oedipus. Expect some nice beers, but no ticks here. Would say about 20-30 bottles. |
66 /100 KLEINE SPUI 18 Nice, cosy place in the old city center. Looks small from the outside, but quite spacey inside. Lots of decoration. Friendly and helpful staff. 7 own beers on tap, 1 is their regular, Gulpener. All old world belgian and german styles. When you are from out of town, you might get a few ticks here. |
60 /100 Van Zanten (Bar) BLOEMENDALSESTRAAT 2 Nice looking pub with lots of standard beers, a few interesting bottles from nearby Bierwinkel Hop, and two Dutch micro guest taps. Nothing really too interesting for tickers, but nice to have a beer if you live here I guess. |
84 /100 Bierwinkel Hop (Beer Store) KROMMESTRAAT 56 Medium sized shop in the old center, located close to shopping district and some bars and local brewpub. Lots of local and Dutch craft, quite some UK and US beers, small lambic selection and a few Spanish and Danish ones. Focus is on quality brews with lots of Imperial Stouts and IPAs. Very friendly service. For every 5 euro spend you get a stamp on a card, and with 10 stamps you get a free beer at nearby Kafé Van Zanten. Great shop for lovers of craft beer. |
100 /100 Bierwinkel Hop (Beer Store) KROMMESTRAAT 56 Best beer store I have ever been to. They always have the newest and most delicious beers from the Netherlands, plus new, amazing breweries from other parts of Europe (and US too). The vibe is really local and cozy, store overlooking the beautiful Amersfoort canal, and there are fun beer tastings on Thursdays! You can find such special stuff, and the staff will always give you advice and be very honest. You can ask when new beers are coming, and ask about specific brewers. They always seem to get crazy new beers before anyone else.... lived around the corner for a year and i miss it terribly! Check this place out! |
50 /100 Albert Heijn - Eemplein (Grocery Store) EEMPLEIN 65 Please stop adding these places. This supermarket has the usual Albert Heijn beer selection. Nice, but the same as the other big Albert Heijn shops. |
50 /100 Zandfoort aan de Eem (Bar) EEMLAAN 100 Restaurant with a small selection of beers. Nothing really interesting. This doesn’t belong here. |
