“I'm not sure that Ashland, Va. is really the center of the universe, and it sure didn't seem like it on a Friday night. Friendly people and pretty good beer though, all available in flights. Good service, prices decent. Funny that some of their IPAs seem better in cans than on tap at source. Maybe just had an off batch.“

“Happy to see Ashland get its very own brewery. Conveniently located right around the corner from the research building for my company, so I will have plenty of good reasons to be up that way. 5 brews on tap (they are just getting started), a nice Kolsch, an alt, an APA, and two different IPA’s. Large bar and tasting area, friendly staff, good service. Pricing pretty standard in the area. Parking could be a problem as popularity grows, which I am quite certain that it will. They are off to a very promising start, and I truly wish them the very best. Update in spring 2015, bumped up a touch due to more beers and overall excellent quality. Definitely stop by if up this way - I always do. Good stuff coming out of the barrel program as well.“

“Final stop in the DC-Hampton road trip. Came in near to closing and there were a decent number of people inside, but it was not crowded. 8 beers on tap and a couple in cans/bottles. Interesting place with a main room with a small corner bar and some other tables around, plus a hallway leading to bathrooms, and a "back" room that seems to be 100% darts. Staff was friendly and all over giving me a flight, again at about $3 per sample. Some of the beers were pretty solid, others were fairly meh, but the overall experience was enjoyable.“

“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Drake and I happened to stumble in during a special event, so there were about 12 beers available including a number of one-off barrel treatments of their wares. The beer quality was quite good. The El Duderino was especially impressive. Prices were fine, service was enthusiastic. As for the layout - it’s a pretty nice place, clearly they’ve spent some money. Plenty of locals seemed to be enjoying themselves. Overall, worth a stop if you’re headed between DC and Richmond.“

“This is a great place to stop off after work and enjoy a good beer. The prices are right and beers are good. They have comfortable seating and tables to enjoy their beers. The location is easily found off I-95 at lewistown road. They fill growlers and if you plan ahead they will provide yours. Chris Ray and his brother Phil have already purchased new equipment to meet the demand for their beers. Bring food this is a beer tasting room. They will be scheduling food trucks on Wednesday evening starting in April.“

“Located in a little industrial space right off I-95 not from Richmond and the I-295 interchange. They have a nicely appointed tasting room and had 6 beers on tap. I don’t understand their math though ... A 16 oz pint is priced at $5-6, a bit high for the quality. But a 64 ozgrowler fill is a bargain at $12 (?). Oddly, a set of six 4 oz samples will set you back $10! (??). I tried all six beers, and unfortunately none were all that good -- pedestrian even. The staff was friendly enough and there was a neighborhood food truck out front. (Brewery #598)“

“Dropped by on my way back from DC. Nice clean open tasting room. Prompt service, but you can’t run a tab. Kolsch, Pale Ale, Amber Ale, IPA, and Pocahoptas on tap. Just tried a regular ole pint instead of the sampler but I enjoyed it thoroughly. They were getting ready to have a tour and tasting of the new releases in the back, but sadly, I had somewhere else to be. Average prices.“

“Glad to finally make it here. I’m actually quite impressed by the ambiance here as it is a commercial warehouse brewery, and while those frequently have very nice tasting rooms, they aren’t frequently as comfortable as this one. Fairly large bar with lots of tables as well as some comfy looking couches. Lots of windows lead to a bright, open feeling. There’s a second room as well, less formal, with a couple video games and a view of the brewery. 5 beers on tap at the time I went, and I was able to sample all of them, but their sampler only has 4 beers so I had to pay 2 bucks for the 5th. There was also a cask on. No food, but they had a food truck in front and they welcome people to bring in food or have it delivered. They have some menus on hand for that purpose. The beers were all solid, though they definitely like their hops, and my palate was definitely burning by the end. Beers were a little bit disjointed, but they were all solid, and they’ve barely been open a month, so I expect the beer will become quite good. Prices were a little high but not too bad. Nice place, and slowly by slowly Richmond is building a nice little collection of Breweries,“

“I had to use two GPSes and and iPhone to find this place, so it lives up to its name. Just take exit 89 off I-95, head east (turn left if coming from DC), then make the first right. It’s right across from the KOA campground. Four beers on, one was very tasty and three were OK. Staff was very friendly but very new. Some casks visible in the brewery, hopefully not for decoration. One to keep an eye on.“

“Very spacious location - though parking looks like it’s horrible. Since it was their grand opening, there were people parked up and down the street and the side street it is right next to. We were able to get a parking spot in the lot, so it wasn’t a problem.

The place is large - the first room when you enter the front is a fantastic looking lounge with a ton of taps available - looks like they’re ready for expansion if things work out - the brewery looks to be divided into at least 3 additional large rooms - brewing, cooler and storage/loading dock.

Staff at event were nice - presume most of them either work for the brewery or were brought in as help, but either way that was a nice touch.

Out back there appears to be an area for outdoor events - which if things work out, could also prove to be a great thing.“

“Went on the Saturday of opening weekend. Nice facility right off the interstate (important because they are more or less in the middle of nowhere despite the name.) Building looks a bit like a small, modern school. Inside is a nice, clean, cozy bar setting. Bar with stools, tables, chairs, board games. Good opening weekend selection (pale ale, kolsch, IPA, alt bier) though would have liked to see something darker but what I tried was good. Service was quick. Lots of open space in the brewery. Good clean restrooms. Will be interesting to see where they go from here.“

“Nice little shop which manages to feel both a little upscale yet neighborhoody at the same time. Friendly staff. Good but small selection. Decent prices. Would definitely shop in here if I lived in Ashland.“

“250th place rating! For being the only beer place in Ashland, the locals could certainly do a lot worse. Located in the downtown area. I found parking to be easy, but I could imagine it could get trickier at busier times. All street parking. Good selection of American and foreign beers, including some stuff I didn’t want to purchase a 4/6 pack of in singles, so I was glad to see that. No rarities but some less common beers. They’re far enough out from Richmond to have some stuff that may have run out elsewhere, but they’re close enough to Richmond to get the good stuff (i.e. Cigar City and Hardywood Park). Prices were all right. There was one guy working there and he was friendly. Nice place.“

“Small but awesome selection. Some good wine and beer food pairings. Friday evening tastings are great. Overall a nice little place that is very well priced compared to places in Richmond with an awesome selection for such a small space and great service.“

“A nice but small selection here. The shelves on the front half of the store are dedicated to beer, although the tops of the shelves were lined with empty bottles. A reasonable selection, but nothing really special.“

“I stumbled onto this place purely by accident. Was quite surprised to see not only a rather wide selection of beer but also quite reasonable pricing. I’m sipping a Weyerbacher Heresy Imp Stout right now from there. Very interesting town also, especially if you’re a train buff with CSX running through the middle of town. Smuttynose IPA, DuPont Saison Vieille Provision, & Rochefort 10 (33cl for $4.75).“

“Thanks to Kinz for letting me know about this place. Got some great beers here. Picked up De Dolle Oerbier Reserva, Fantome Hiver and De Noel, A. Le Coq 2000, a 2000 Gouden Carolus, and several others. The owner(?) Ian offered some older vintages of beers he had in the back. Well worth the stop if traveling up and down I-95 or if you are in Richmond. Great place!“

“The Caboose is a small wine and beer shop across from the railroad running through Ashland. The selection, although small, is stunning. During my last visit, I found De Dolle Special Reserva 2002, Fantome Hiver & Noel, A. le Coq Imperial Stout 2000, Rogue Brutal Bitter, assorted Legend bottlings, etc. I saw a few French ciders lurking on the shelves as well. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, this place is well worth a quick stop off of 95 to see what is floating around.“
