“Visited on a rainy Saturday afternoon in May. It’s out in Aurora, just over the border from Ohio but somehow still a surprisingly long drive from Cincinnati. It’s in a really old brick building in the sleepy downtown, and the space is big and comfortable, with a lot of character. The bar itself is big and long and old and seems to have a steampunk sort of vibe. There was one guy working, the owner, and he was friendly and helpful. But they don’t do flights, just pints, half pints, and samples in little plastic cups that you’d get ketchup in at a restaurant. So that was annoying. The few beers I had ranged from decent to terrible. People seem to like the food here, but I didn’t have any. The prices were a little high for the beers, but fair. Overall, it’s okay and they’re a grizzled veteran in the Cincy region, but the beer quality leaves a lot to be desired. Given the range in what I’ve had from them, maybe I just picked the wrong ones that day.“

“Neat rivertown storefront location, several of their own beers on tap, friendly service. The room is authentic, but a little sparse (a little too much open space). Their best brews (IPA, Coconut Porter) can match or top anybody out there, but their less successful offerings are sub-par. Overall, an operation that began to expand, canning their best stuff, kegs showing up in area establishments, but something went wrong, and they have drawn in on themselves to survive. Personally, I feel that their black cans and ornate old gold labels weren’t attention grabbers on the shelf, and that may have hurt marketing and sales. They offer enough solid brews that I have to believe they can make a go of it.“

“Open, airy, simple, slightly distressed old building in old downtown....comfy and a little dumpy by design.....a slight steampunk influence.....the owner was friendly, even offered a sample before I selected a pint....food was ok, a little limited on choices, and falls prey to the hipster/hippy menu too many brewpubs have embraced......just sell me a cheeseburger......or a plain ham sandwich....beers are up and down, the good ones are great, and the rest are a little plain, but good quality and cleanly made......worth a stop.“

“Overview: I’ve been coming to Pour House for the last ten years. In that time, they went from a locally owned business with a surprising bottle selection to being sold to new ownership. As you can see from the place photo, this store isn’t going to win any beauty contests, and it’s certainly not spacious, but they do have the best selection of imports in the area, and compete well with Whitey’s in terms of domestic selection as well. The last time I was in (last night) I had two workers ask if I needed assistance, which may be a first for me here. When I asked for a certain beer, they stopped short of offering me an alternative when the beer for which I asked was out of stock. I have to wonder why... Selection is probably the best in the area, especially their import selection. They do a pretty nice job of stocking English and German bottles (found Robinson’s Old Tom Ginger last visit, for instance). Their prices on imports are competitive, but their domestic prices on single bottles are on the high side- about a dollar more per single than what I’d pay in Louisville. This makes a domestic mixed sixer a pricey enterprise. PROS: Strong import selection; improved service. CONS: Pricey domestic singles; some bottles seemed pretty old. OVERALL: Not an out of the way destination, but worth a stop if you’re in the area and want some imports that might not make it to your area. If you’re wanting local/regional beer, I’d stop by Whitey’s in Lawrenceburg first.“

“PROS: Beautiful bar area with some old touches still visible from the former Coachlight location; friendly bartender; proper glassware; solid rotating tap selection; good food choices with varying price range; beer fairly priced. CONS: Main dining area remake is less than appealing to me; bottle selection is pretty mundane; have only eaten here once personally (my food was decent), but have heard up and down reviews from locals. OVERALL: Not a destination in itself, but a good stop in the area. I do like the insistence on having local/regional beer (Great Crescent, Flat 12, Fat Heads, Rivertown). Has plenty of potential for growth and development into something special.“

“Tap room now serves food some days of the week but the selection is rather limited, no table service, and if you want water you have to buy it bottled--Ripoff City. But the real problem is the beer. I got a sampler of four of their mainline beers and I can honestly say it was the worst sampler I’ve had at any brewpub or tap room, even including Gordon Biersch in Columbus. Ambiance is OK--cool beer can collection in two glass towers, local arts, crafts and nonperishable food items for sale. But to me the main factor is the beer and this place falls far short. Not worth a visit even if you happen to be in the area--go to one of the locations of Whitey’s bottle shop instead.“

“Another update. PROS: Now serving food Thu-Sat, so beer can be purchased and consumed on premises, even without purchasing food (on those nights). They have actually hired a few folks now, so that’s a plus. Their warehouse space now has a small area for local arts and crafts for sale, and there’s a good amount of GCB merchandise available as well. Food seemed well priced (still have not tried it personally) but have heard that it is solid pub grub. They always seem to have at least four of their beers on tap, and they’ll let you try a small sample if you’re not sure. You can get sample sizes of their beer (my guess is about 4 oz.) as well. CONS: Beer on premises was served in tumblers, and a chilled tumbler is the default serving vessel; wish they would serve food throughout the week. OVERALL: Worth your time if in the area, especially now that they can serve on premises three days of the week. Some good things continuing to happen, and happily some solid growth for them as well. I look forward to drinking GCB for the foreseeable future. Ample street parking in the area, and very close to Third and Main, which has a selection of state and regional beers.“

“This place is great! Doesn’t look like anything special from the outside but they have a surprisingly nice selection. Service has always been fantastic; everyone has always been very helpful. As a Cincinnati resident, they have consistently had the best Three Floyd’s selection I’ve come across. A good amount of Tyranena and plenty of others worth checking out. Have always been very pleased with this establishment.“

“Went there today. The person working there was very helpful. Had a decent selection of 3 Floyds beers. Also picked up a 6 pack of Bells Hopslam. Prices were very reasonable. I was pleasantly surprised with their selection. I just wish it was a bit closer to where I live.“

“The best selection in the locale. If your looking for a descent selection around the Aurora/Lawrenceburg area, then this is the place to go. They are the closest store that has a pretty good selection of 3Floyds, but also carry some Stone, Tyranena, Bell’s, Heavy Seas, Left Hand, and a few others. I just put a request in for Stone 16th Anniversary when it is released.“

“Very friendly service, they will set you up with a tasting of all the fine beers on tap. Although not all at the beer were to my taste, they of the highest quality. Well worth checking out.“

“I’ve been meaning to make a trip to this place ever since their Coconut Porter was featured in Cincinnati magazine as one of the best beer brewed in the area and decided to make the trip when I saw they are now open on Sunday. I was actually their first Sunday customer and Lani took my picture with Dan! Unfortunately, the place is doing so well they were sold out of many of their beers, so check their website. I did get a couple of samples, a growler of their IPA and Coconut Porter and a very friendly tour from Lani who showed me their plans to build a nice little brewpub. I got to talk to Dan who told me about their mini-kegs -- no special equipment needed and the beer stays fresh in the refirigerator for months due to the collapsing liner that squeezed any oxygen out -- a novel concept yet they were sold out of those as well. Very very friendly and nice folks who I think/hope will make it big. Definitely worth the trip even if they were short on some of their normal selections.“

“Such a great find! I stopped by this brewery on my way to Cincinnati and was overly impressed. They had just moved from their old location and still have a lot of work to do to get the establishment fully completed. Even though they are not able to sell by the glass until they get everything done, I was able to sample four beers while there. Each of these beers offered were perfect. The owners were very kind and courteous and knowledgeable. I bought a growler and it was a great souvenir of my visit and held up well. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area as this place is only going to get better when their expansion is complete.“

“November 2009 - GCB resides amidst a quaint middle-American main street, with a small counter and free samples of their offered beers, growlers or party-pigs to go. Nice selection of beer -- from a wit, to a cherry ale, to a damn-good coconut porter, and all the beers are quite good, and the owners are friendly beer geeks. Definitely worth a 20 minute detour if you find yourself on the Cincy Tri-State beltway.“

“I heard about this place on Rate Beer. It seems to be the closest place to Cincinnati that carries 3 Floyds. They do not always have their entire line, but the few times I have been there, the Pour House has had a pretty good selection.“

“I found out about this place from their advertisement and coupon in a local coupon circular and decided to check it out during a road trip today (Columbus Day 2006)... The Pour House Bottle Shop is a liquor, beer, and wine store. They have a pretty decent selection of bottled beer above and beyond the usual macro and micro stuff. Some imports, seasonals, and rarities including 3F Dreadnaught. I managed to snag the last Stone Vertical Epic 04.04.04! What a find that was and made the trip completely worth it! They have lots of 4-pack and 6-packs both on the shelf and in the coolers. They also have many of the beers by the single bottle in the cooler. Also, if there is something they have that’s not singled out, just ask and they will be more than happy to sell one bottle at a time!“
