“As Fin said in his review, the White Hart sits between the Black Bulls Head in Openwoodgate and the pubs in Holbrook, so it would be rude not to. That isn't to say that this pub isn't worth visiting in its own right. There are a good handful of cask beers, a couple of keg, and a few bottles which are generally predictable although certainly decent. I opted for a bottle of Thornbridge Big Easy (£1.90, cheaper than in the shops) as I needed to slow down after a day of drinking. The pub itself is convivial and comfortable. Worth stopping by.“

76 /100 SANDBED LANE

After a fairly tortuous Friday night drive up to my dads we arrived here to a pub that is fast becoming a favourite of my dads. It is in a good area for pubs with The Black Bulls Head at Open Woodgate a short distance away (approx 1 mile) the Dead Poets is also close (about 3/4 mile) and if on public transport I believe that the Sevens 7.1 bus route will also take you right by here. The White Hart is on Sandbed Lane which is in the village of Bargate the town of Belper is just 1 and a half miles away.

The pub is located right by the side of the road, its a traditional stone pub, a good size with a small car park to the side. When we arrived it was pretty rammed and was standing room only, so getting an idea of the interior was quite tricky, though it seemed to be quite simple and traditional, there seemed to be two bars and a covered outside area at the rear, though not sure if it had a garden (suspect not) it is however dog friendly.

Beer choice was good with beers from the likes of Salopian, Saltaire and Ashover that I’d not had before supplemented by a few more traditional beers to keep a few of the locals happy I guess. There was also one keg offering from Twisted Barrel, there were also a few cans at sensible prices from the likes of Beavertown. We headed to the LH bar on entering the pub and the beer choice is displayed on a wall on the LH side at the end of the bar.

The landlord was a young chap who seemed quite friendly and chatty and is apparently very keen to search out new beers. We liked it here, one gripe that I would have is if its a bit busy then the way the bar is positioned makes it quite difficult to get served as people will naturally congregate around here. There was a good mix of folk in in here and it looks like this is a pub that is definitely on the up.
