Horrock’s Farm Market (Grocery Store)

“Upscale grocery store with taps on site. Good but not outstanding selection of beers. No food on site but in temrs of groceries great selection of fresh fruit and veggies, candies, cheese, ans stock groceries. While the selection is not expansive I have found things here I have not found in some of the best bottle shops in the area, so worth the trip. A little pricey, expect to pay a buck or two more for most six packs compared to other area stores.“

“Stopped in after eating at Arcadia. Pretty large place with dining, a big outside space, small but nice looking bar. Didn’t eat, they had some ventilation problems. Never got a full beer menu, they had some nice choices including really new breweries in MI. Pretty good prices, decent place.“

“Nice bar down the street from Arcadia, right next door to Griffin grill and pub, and an easy walk from the Baymont for folks from out of town looking to hit all three and not drive. Really nice space with a sharp looking long bar and TVs and dart boards. Lots of taps with michgan micros and Us micros some internationals. Good selection and decent crowd. I like the BBQ at Arcadia, better beer choices here. If in town I think a must do.“

“Horrock’s is to the grocery industry what craft brew is to the macro beer industry. They carry a wide variety of products, especially produce and ethnic foods, that you can’t find at big box stores. Only drawback is that the BC location looks and feels like a dirty garage sale. I wish they would update. The Lansing location feels more like an urban street market. A lot cleaner and modern.“

“News! Horrocks has a very good selection of beers. They are also lower priced than Mega Bev. And finally, they now have "a bar". It is very lackluster for ambiance (dropped into the store with no attempt to put tables or comfort to the area) but a fine selection of bottled Michigan beers - all at $1.99-2.99/beer. So come, do a little grocery shopping, and enjoy some really great brews (yes, you can walk around the store with it). “

“I’m not from Battle Creek, but my parents live there. Given that my daughter is also in Michigan, I am in BC quite often. This is a World Class bar!!! My only fear is that when ANYTHING top shelf moves into Downtown BC, the locals don’t support it with the vigor that they should. Here is why you will like the Cricket Club (three reasons, but there are many more). 1. Selection - I am not certain of exact numbers, but at least 50 beers on tap. And whoever is choosing knows their beers! Shorts, Bells, Founders and many more great locals on tap. I hate when I go to bars (Griffin nearby is an example) and they’ve got many beers on tap - all boring and second rate (think Stella, Sam Adams, etc.). Not here. To top it off, they’ve got great, great liquor selection on the bar as well. I lived in Chicago for three years - and never once found a bar with this level of sophisticated selection. 2. Price - My wife and I ordered a couple pints of Shorts beer in the afternoon. Shorts is usually about the most expensive beer we can order - but well worth it. The bartender "$5 please". My reply, "Each?" (assuming even that was cheap). His reply "Total". How a place this upscale and nice can charge not just fair, but GREAT prices for their products is a mystery to me. 3. Service - We always feel whenever we visit that we’ve got a personal bartender, a smiling person, and almost like a new friend that is serving us. You never wait for your next drink, you always get attention - and there is no pretension whatsoever in their service. “

“Visited on a Saturday night. Not too busy. Served an Arcadia Angler’s Ale from the cask immediately. Unfortunately it tasted like there was a bacterial infection in the lines, much like a farmhouse ale. I went back to the bar to verify that it was Angler’s. The bartender, still not very busy said yes then pretty much ignored me when I told him it didn’t taste right. The second bartender I spoke with told me it was supposed to taste like that because it was from a cask. Ironically, he was wearing an Arcadia shirt. Though both knew I was displeased with the beer, neither offered to taste it or to replace it with something else. Horrible customer service.“

“So here is the scoop. They have one of the finest tap selections in Michigan. And guess what? They have no idea they have to clean the lines. When Bell’s Hopslam tasted like dirty vomit, you know you’ve got problems. Even my mother an amateur knows that the bottled equivalent of anything here is better. A new place, the Cricket Club has better selection - and clean taps. Yuck - I hate it when they ruin awesome beers . . .“

“If you are in Battle Creek, this is the go-to place for craft beer. It is closer to the highway, away from downtown and looks like an ordinary bar/restaurant. Inside however, are regular people relaxing with lots of good beer, served at a decent temperature, fresh, with the right amount of carbonation. The bartendress was very helpful, and decent free samples(did she charge me the Michigan 25 cent minimum, likely). A number of Founders available ere, including a one-year aged Founders Scotch. Great root beer on tap for the designated driver. Noted for the food.“

“Down the street from Arcadia, this place has 20 odd taps, a half dozen devoted to craft beer, all local Michigans. A bit crowded between the tables and the bar, the bartender not moving at the great speed I have seen in most places, we did not stay very long. People talking to their small groups, music on the loud side, still nicely appointed, and tables on a patio in the back. You could do worse, and it is open very early at 8 am for breakfast and they will even serve you a beer then. It is open much later than Arcadia as well.“

“an irish pub down the street from arcadia, recommended to me by the guy sitting next to me there who said they have ’30 beers on tap’. turns out, 33 to be exact! they had arrogant bastard and even ommegang rare vos on tap! the rare vos was phenominal and they also had two casks, both pulling arcadia products. food menu looked good though i didnt eat and they are even open for breakfast. younger crowd, they did have an irish duo strumming acoustics who were pretty good and not too loud. i only had one beer here and left but id definately return.“
