“A large modern building houses the brewery and taproom. Its on the northern edge of town. Decent sized taproom serving various cask beers from the brewery. There's a good variety of keg beers too, and a couple of beer fridges full of cans to take away. They serve food. Iffy service, too few staff serving behind the bar“

Foxy Wings (Restaurant)
3B MERCHANT PLACE, RIVERSIDE CLOSE
“I've been aware of this place for about a year but haven't been able to dip in. I got my chance yesterday and I have to say I was pretty impressed. It is very much set up as a restaurant but there's a bar area to the right as uou walk in. I counted about eight beers on tap, six of which were bona fide craft from places like Northern Monk, Vault City, Boundary and Glasshouse. Prices are in line with the area (about £2.50 per third for seesionable craft). Occasional tastings held. Bedford is a smallish town and has so few craft venues that Foxy Wings stood out more that it would in Birmingham or Leicester, but it's still worth incorporating into anyone's exploration of the town. And the Riverside location is delicious too.“

“I've visited this establishment a number of times over the years. Three rooms with an outside area at the rear. Beer selection wasn't too inspiring, all from the GK stable but in reasonable condition.“

“An authentic, classic British pub, heavily decorated with empty bottles, memorabilia, pump clips, photos, books and, at our stay, Christmas decorations - really a bric-a-brac decor. Cozy pub room split in different sections with etched window glass and an L-shape bar promoting 12 hand pubs of a few ciders, and well-kept cask ales from Banks & Taylors and 3 Brews, among others. A solid cask ale pub, dog friendly and a beer garden to the rear. Friendly barmaid (Visited with Finn 18.11.2021).“

“A well-kept, old school pub associated with the Kelchner Brewery. Only one beer from the brewery among the eight cask ales at our stay. We also had beers from Nethergate and Hardy's and Hanson, all of them in perfect condition. Medium sized pub with a large beer garden to the rear. Polite service, community feel. (Visited with Finn18.11.2021).“

“Cool, little bottle shop with drink-in options, close to the city center. Three ciders and six craft beers on the taps, updated menu listed on their informative website. Beer flight on a sample tray of three 1/3 pints. Friendly and helpful service. (Visited with Finn 18.11.2021).“

“About one English mile from the station, so we took an early train from London St Pancras and walked for about 20 minutes. This huge place is located outside of the city center, close to a roundabout and on the other side of Aldi supermarket. Should be easy to spot with its Brewpoint neon sign on the top of the building. Opens early so we ordered breakfast together with a sample tray of their beers. They had three beers on cask, and 13 on keg, most of them from Brewpoint but also some from Charlie Wells. A few of their beers is available in cans to take-away. Growler fill options, as well. Decent draught beers, all of them available in 1/3 pints. Comfortable modern main room, friendly service by the table and good food. Quite impressive place, really. (Visited with Finn 18.11.2021).“

“Id been meaning to visit here for a while, finally made it. Not sure if the premises had recently changed hands but the range was a bit odd and not as comprehensive as other reviewers have made out. Picked up 4 or 5 new ones, including a local-ish cider from a place that's not yet created on here.“

“I will be honest. I expected not to like this place. But as its not far from my ersatz Bedford crib I couldn't say no. As I understand it in the great big book of who owns what, I believe its owned by Charles Wells, but not Marstons (who own Eagle which used to be called Charlws Wells or Wells & Youngs). It's bright, grassy and brash, the sort of set up that hides many sins. But the beer list is decent: about 6 on cask and 9 on keg. The styles are reasonably varied, with a Schwarzbier, and imperial brown and a Scotch ale among the traditional British styles and hoppy pales. It's expensive but not impossibly so: I had a half and a third of stronger beer for about £5.50. This is where you wanna bulk up on your Bedfordshire ticks. And this is how a larger regional can run a successful brewpub.“

“Smart back street local in a terraced street about 20 mins walk from town. It's probably changed a little since my mum won the local cribbage championship here in the early 1970's (the men were not happy...). Usual Charles Wells fare on cask with the odd (sometimes interesting) guest beer.“

“Part bar, part beer store. Around 6 or 7 beers on tap plus a good range of cans & bottles in a number of fridges along one wall, including a few local-ish options. Bedford has needed something different like this for ages, it's good to see!“

“I must say this shop has raised its standards by a mile over the past couple of years. It's bringing in new beers every week or so, I've put in requests for several beers and they've managed to get them in which was brill. The shop itself is run by a very lovely team and the staff are always friendly. All I can say is, well done to them for upping their standards, I'm very pleased with their beer selection as it stands now.“

“Old fashioned pub with a large, but not very interesting cask selection. We found a couple of new to us B&Ts, but one of them was all buttery. I’ve had that frim B&T before from their own brewery tap in Shefford, so not sure whether to blame the pub for serving it or the brewery for making it. The place seemed a little run down to me, but still easily among the best in Bedford.“

“Beer store and bar in one. This is a craft beer place, and since there is very little craft beer made in Bedfordshire, they have very little local beer. Otherwise a very good selection of the usual craft beer suspects, that we have seen all over England. They have some craft taps as well. Very welcoming staff.“

“Visited 4/10/2019. Last stop on way back to train station. Comfortable pub, reasonable selection of beers though the general atmosphere and lay-out were better than the beer offering itself. Nice outside patio area at back. Worth a look.“

“Visited 4/10/2019. Opened up next to when Blue Glass used to be. Modern craft beer bar and shop, not a lot of local stuff though did have one by the local Brewhouse & Kitchen on tap which I'd not seen before. Friendly service. A few fridges down the wall with some interesting uk and foreign offerings including a new brewery from Northants I'd not seen before - Boot Town. Very friendly service. Quite unique offering for Bedford.“

“Visited 4/10/2019. Furthest stop East on the Bedford town tour, and worthy of a visit. No longer associated with the now defunct White Park brewery but still going independent of GK (albeit their beers do feature) but they also had a couple on from Northamptonshire brewery Three Hills under The Woodford Experiment name. Very friendly service, nice comfortable place, quite liked this place.“

“Visited 4/10/2019. Quite a nice pub, with friendly service but not a huge selection of beers. With limited time on the post-Bedford beer festival tour didn't stop here for long but it was the best so far and one I would go back to if in town again.“

“Visited July 2018.. when we visited it was rather newly open.. one of these mix places at a bar and a shop. Few taps with a nice variation of breweries and styles.. Super friendly and service minded staff.. Nice selection of beers ( both cans and bottles ) either to drink in or take away. For sure worth a stop being around Bedford..“

“Untappd verified which makes it easy to follow up on the selection which is very nice, especially since I couldn't find a proper beer shop in Bedford before. Cloudwater, BBNo, LHG, Kernel... nice. Prices are pretty good also. 7 taps for drinking in, rather small place but since it's a shop with taproom it's not at all bad. Friendly service. Unfortunately for me it wasn't opened last year when I spent a few months in Bedford. At least I won't have to order beer online next time I come over! :p“

“Balm to the soul. How Bedford has been crying out for a place like this. Beerfly is advertised as a shop but it feels like bar first, shop second. It's small and quiet, friendly with no WiFi, and a great selection of craft beer. BBNo, Boundary, Chorlton and Lost & Grounded are among the 7 craft taps, and they have a bottle fridge to match. Loads of local craft breweries (Beds, MK, Northants) to bring in or take away, including two in Bedfordshire new to me. Prices are very cheap for craft beer anywhere. Amazing.“

“Visited July 2018.. Placed in city center easy to find.. The bar is in the back end of the pub, and that ensure you that you are in a pub.. My first impression coming in , gave me the idea of entering a furniture shop.. Very cosy atmosphere.. not that many seatings compared to the size of the place, since many of the furnitures are big... They served pizzas, but we didn't have any.. Nice pit stop..“
