“Located in a repurposed golf course clubhouse, this place is pretty big, bright and inviting. The outdoor spaces looked ample and pleasant, if you can catch the right weather. Visited at lunch time on a Monday. It was pretty quiet. Very unique and pretty long list of unique offerings here, given their angle on unusual historical styles. My wife and I got different flights, and all were good to great beers! Only had a side of fries, but the menu and food going past us looked good. Very nice staff. Great first stop for our Michigan adventures! Brewery #996.“

“Ran into this brewpub at the summer beer fest and really liked the cloud piercer Pilsner.stopped for dinner and tried 11 of the 16 on tap. Nice place staff were very good food was good. Brewer tried to brew a wide variety of classic brews so credit goes out to him. It’s tough to brew that scope of beer styles and there were a lot of misses, like a Smokey Irish stout. Pilsner is damn good.“

“Stopped in because I noticed that HopCat has a sahti from these guys. Pleasantly surprised to see a barrel aged version as well, both tasty. As the name implies, they focus on brewing traditional styles, extinct beers and other blasts from the past. The three lambic styles they had on offer were just OK. Highlight of the session was an absolutely delicious grodziskie named Wayne (get it?). Barman claims they have a coolship and brew Speciation's spontaneously fermented beers; but a staff member let me look around the brewery (a seven barrel system) and I saw no coolship - needs further investigation. The building is the former clubhouse of a defunct golf course, very big with an L-shaped bar and lots of restaurant tables. Nice deck as well, plus a patio and a covered event space below, along with scattered Adirondack chairs. Tasty food. A new (opened July 2021) must-visit place a short drive from Grand Rapids.“

“Dropped by during early December Covid. 11 beers on tap: all quite awesome. 2/3 IPAs and hazies. A couple of sours, and a couple of stouts. 1 Barrel aged beer. At this time they were only selling cans for $6 each, but they gave me a couple of tasters. Must visit again after Covid.“

“Good little brewpub tucked away in an industrial park abutting the 101. For whatever reason I've never really liked their stuff on draft at local beer bars, but the stuff at the source was solid (or, in one case, superb). Heavy into sours, which are fine. I find their IPAs a bit thin and their stouts are also thin. Best thing I had was their old ale. Worth a stop, but of the brewpubs in Silicon Valley, would suggest doing Ghostwood first, actually.“

“Smallish warehouse/industrial park location between Santa Cruz and SF. Had been following for a while on social media and finally got to try em. Decent priced sampler flights - 12ish beers on at a time. Nothing stood out, but there were a few good ones and a couple closer to bad. Ddin;t interact a whole lot with the staff...they got the beers to us fast enough. I'd go again but wouldn't go out of my way.“

The String Bean (Restaurant)

“I got here a bit before the lunch crowd and the place was very crowded. A bit of a fishy smell from the butcher shop side. Has its own small parking lot, a good thing since parking is limited in Belmont. On your left is a small bar with six taps. On your right is the butcher shop and a few shelves and a couple of coolers of beer. The few prices that were marked seemed reasonable. After I left I notice that there is another half to the space with restaurant tables. An OK stop if in Belmont.“

“Sports bar type place, modern decor. long L-shaped bar and some restaurant tables. 37 taps, with four 5 ounce pours for five bucks, can't beat that! Mixture of fairly interesting craft beers and some macros. Friendly efficient service. Food was decent pub food, sandwiches salads and burgers mainly. Worth a stop if in Belmont.“

“I really can’t believe I have waited this long to go here! It can be challenging to find; its in an industrial park and the buildings out front are not the correct address, and there are no signs. The "private parking" signs are not exactly welcoming either, but turn in and drive around. Small industrial space, one unit for brewing and one for the taproom. Taproom was small and kind of cramped with a few longish tables and a couple of barrels on the wall. Bar/ordering area seated four which made ordering a pain in the butt. They need to sort that out. Always a line for beers. 8 taps running when I was there. Prices list full and half pours, as well as growlers, but I was able to get 4 oz pours for $2/each. I was quite impressed with their beers; everything hoppy I tried was solid or better. A place to return to.“

“Stopped in for lunch. Teeny tiny parking lot and street parking was jammed. Inside is a large bar on the right with tons of TVs, definitely a sports bar feel. Basketball volume cranked way way up. Restaurant tables, then a deck overlooking the parking lot. Food is above average even if the choices are more or less pubby. Very friendly service. Beers are mostly flagship craft and some macros, but I found a couple things I hadn’t had, and they do flights. Good food stop in a quaint little town.“

“A new micro with interesting beers. The tap room is just small and also barrel rack for their barrel aged beers. Good glassware and samplers available for decent price.“

“Pretty easy to get to from 101 and pretty much right next to it but about half-way between the Ralston and Holly exits. Located in one of the many non-deScript units in this business park.

Small "bar" to order from and a decent amount of seating here. They had a good selection of taps offered and their beers have a good range, but mostly focus on en vogue styles like fruited sour beers, hoppy (cloudy) pale ales and IPAs, and adjunct stouts. That said, the beers are actually good, so you can’t fault them too much.

A couple things that are annoying: no tasters (they do at least serve half pours) and their obnoxious graphics/logo. Overall, though, a good brewery if not an inconvenient one for me to visit these days.“

“Just stopped in to pass time because I had been asked recently if I had seen their beer selection. I was pleasantly surprised at their selection of beer. Had some real good finds and will visit them often in the near future!“

The String Bean (Restaurant)

“Located in a small town west of Charlotte, The String Bean has a very good selection of many beer styles, while not focusing on any one style. Staff is helpful, friendly, and knowlegable. Did not sample any deli or restaurant fare. I had a Heavy Seas Winter Storm draft at the 8 seat bar and was able to meet and talk with the owner and another patron. If you’re looking for something other than BMC in the area, do yourself a favor and stop in.“

“Great little place, a haven of good beer in a small town. Prices were ok, a little on the high side. Staff was either knowledgeable or well-trained and very friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to return when they’ve changed out their seasonals.“
