| 84 /100 Bang In Belper (Bar) 56-58 BRIDGE ST “An amazing addition to the Belper scene. It s got a massive Pride flag on the door, and is LGBT+ friendly, dog and family friendly... and beer friendly. 10 keg and three cask, plus a couple of ciders and a good smattering of cans. They don't stray all that far from home, featuring Shiny, Campbell Street and Buxton, but also giving room to Two by Two, Dock and Deya. You'll be spoiled for choice. Please note that the secret is out and it gets pretty crowded pretty quickly. Worth going out of your way for.“ |
| 78 /100 Railway (Bar) 25 KING STREET “This pub, which re-opened June 2019, is smarter and perhaps that little bit more 'corporate' than the many micropubs in town or the trad pubs in the surrounding countryside. However I find it a hard pub not to like: spacious, friendly and comfortable. The beer choice is impressive as well: eight cask ales (five Lincoln Green beers, including a seasonal, and three guests) are complemented by four well chosen cask from the likes of Brew York and Cloudwater alongside Lincoln Green's own 'craft' line, Blackshale. While the Railway isn't expensive, it's not dirt cheap like many of the local pubs. I'd call this a must in any Belper crawl.“ |
| 58 /100 Thorn Tree Inn (Bar) 21 CHESTERFIELD ROAD “Up a big hill from the town centre. You've earned your beer once you get here. It's got an odd atmosphere, not unfriendly but maybe a bit cliquey. Four handpulls offer decent beer (Abbeydale, Pentrich, Bass), nothing you can't get closer town, although the condition is passable and it is cheap (£3.10 per pint). Not bad, but in the beer haven of Belper, this one can be missed.“ |
| 74 /100 Angels Micropub (Bar) 26 MARKET PLACE “A tiny bit hard to find tucked just off the Market Place, the Angels Micropub serves traditional beer in a modern-ish setting. Eight cask beers dispensed by gravity, plus a few ciders & perries. The beer runs the gamut from the predictable & ubiquitous to the less easily attainable micros. Oakham, Whim, Blue Monkey, Full Mash and Falstaff are the calibre of breweries, and it's worth noting that a couple of the beers were around the 6% mark. No keg or bottles/cans I'm afraid, but you will still find a beer or three to try. Everything is £3 per pint, so fill yer boots (or yer liver).“ |
| 74 /100 Pump It Up (Bar) 39 BRIDGE STREET “Tiny little pub, good luck fitting more than 15 people in here. However that seems to add to its charm: it feels convivial rather than crowded. The selection is good: five cask ales alongside four kegs and a small selection of bottles and cans. Most beers are a bit safe but they have some different styles here as well, so there's lots of choice! Breweries tend toward the local (Matlock, Muirhouse, Shiny). A good place to check out.“ |
| 74 /100 Arkwright's Real Ale Bar (Bar) 6 CAMPBELL STREET “Cracking micropub. Seven handpumps dispensing cask ale with a couple of craft-oriented keg on my visit. Most beer is micro: Shiny, Blue Bee, Wilde Child, Burton Bridge, Crispin, Grafton, VoG on my visit.I also counted 8 ciders and perries, mainly Lilley's which seem to be ubiquitous these days. Dog growled at me when I came in but apparently he does that to everyone, so that's cool.“ |
| 82 /100 Beer Trap (Beer Store) 20 MARKET PLACE “Relatively new to Belper, the Beer Trap is a small craft beer shop located just off the Market Place. I say small, but it's one of those exciting beer shops which carries all the beer I like, or rather, I'd be happy to drink everything they sell. Concentrating on forward-looking breweries, both in the UK and abroad, you can find excellent offerings from the likes of Het Uiltje and Oskar Blues as well as Northern Monk and Salt. You can't fault the fair prices. They're also planning to have a drinking in space although it's takeout only at time of writing. Belper and the surrounding area isn't short of beer destinations, so make sure you include this one.“ |

There is a decent range of cask pumps available, largely from local Breweries but with a couple from further afield. It was quite quiet on our visit but still friendly. A must visit when in Belper.“ |
| 78 /100 Pump It Up (Bar) 39 BRIDGE STREET “This ex Butchers shop is handily placed on the main A6 through Belper, just off the main shopping streets but within easy reach. Bijou is the term that Estate Agents would use as 10 people would be a crowd in here, there are a few tables and chairs dotted around and a small bar. It is friendly and lively with a chatty banter. Around 6 Real Ales and 5 Keg lines available on our visit, the cask looked to be mostly local beers and the keg from further afield with one American import, the pricing gives great value particularly on their bottled beers. Well worth a visit when in the area.“ |

Comfortable seating inside, and a row of tables and seats outside too. Brewery choices were Driftwood Spa, Oakham, 3 Thornbridge beers, Bridgehouse, Titanic and Sarah Hughes. We enjoyed our Thornbridge Cortado and Bridgehouse Landlady beers.“ |

Breweries available were Dukeries, Two Roses, Ashover, Briarbank and Wilde Child plus Marstons Pedigree. We chose Two Roses Cascade, Ashover Zoo and Briarbank Perpendicular, all of which were fine.“ |

| 78 /100 Angels Micropub (Bar) 26 MARKET PLACE “We (me, dad, Pauline and Loz) visited here Saturday 17th February 2018. We had been to Buxton on the Trans Peak bus for the afternoon and came back to Belper for a couple of beers. This much like the Arkwright pub was positively buzzing, to get a table was rather fortunate. It is located near the market place and so quite central, its a short walk from both the railway and bus stations. It's an old stone building that runs lengthways, I think that there was a ramp access. As you enter you walk past the bar and hatch to your right hand side, the room then opens out into one mid sized room with a raised area at the rear, it's not that big, simply furnished, there are no whistles and bells here it is just a simple beer and chatter type place. In terms of beer choice I understand that they put up to eight casks of beer out on Thursday and go through these through to Sunday, I recall that it was £3 a pint and there was a good choice with a nice focus on local beers as well as some from further afield. I really liked this place and along with Arkwrights there is the start of a good pub crawl in Belper. “ |

We had been to Buxton on the Trans Peak bus for the afternoon and came back to Belper for a couple of beers. According to their own blurb, Arkwright's Real Ale Bar is situated just off Belper's main high street, along Campbell Street. There is street parking after 6pm or there is a large car park off Field Lane with nearly 200 spaces. It is reasonably centrally located in Belper, about 3-4 minutes from Morrisons and similar from the bus station. Like many new places these days this place adopts the simple approach to furnishings, nothing fancy, its just a selection of tables and chairs occupying this smallish rectangular room, it's a little cosy but you are close to the action with the bar alongside. I would have taken a better look but it was rammed and it was evening with subdued lighting, their were all manner of folk including walkers, serious beer drinkers, families etc, a nice cross section and a very nice atmosphere. Apparently they have a room upstairs though we never ventured that far. The beer was choice was good not huge modest but some nice choices, we had the Shiny/Odyssey collaboration on tap. but there were some other great choices mostly cask but a couple of keg.I quite liked the music selection and I liker the chat in here, If I lived locally both this and the nearby Angels Micropub would be regular haunts for me. “ |
| 66 /100 Liquid Treasure (Beer Store) 59 KING STREET “ Me and my dad went here (my dad knows it well) on Friday 19th February 2016. From my limited knowledge of Belper I would suggest that It is reasonably centrally located on King Street, near Green Lane junction, it looks quite close to the railway station also (within a few minutes I would suggest) Once inside the shop the beers can be found towards the rear on shelving off to the RH side and a fridge to the LH side, on our visit there was also a display area at the rear of the store with some more expensive Brewdog Abstrakt and Thornbridge offerings, not sure if this was permanent as it looked like there were also some post Christmas gift pack beers also. The choice was fine without being too exciting, understandably there was a strong emphasis on local beers, so expect to see plenty from the likes of Thornbridge, Dancing Duck, Blue Monkey etc. Prices were reasonable, service friendly, it is certainly worth an ’out of towner’ popping in as you are almost certain to pick up something you’ve not had.“ |
