“Not s very big place, but was on the way to my daughter's apartment. I did get a 6 pack there and I asked about a bigger place and they told me about there other store. My daughter told me about Gee WilLiquors. I went there later for more Beer, but not able to add it to Ratebeer yet.“

“Small selection of craft beer in this liquor store. I was able to find 6 local beers I have not seen before. Not anything great.“

“Passing thru Bismarck on way to Bozeman. Nice place, had a band playing inside. About 12 beers on tap. Beer was just good enough, not spectacular. I did buy a mix 6 to go.“

“Exceptional place! Open less than a year, and they had nearly 20 taps. I tried 8, and they were all very good to terrific. Flights of 4 for only $7. Beers poured by the owner / brewer, who is very nice, humble, and seems to be genuinely unaware of his greatness. Awesome vibe inside. This is a true gem.“

“A small brewery in downtown Bismark. A small, dimly lit interior with a small bar. They have a few outdoor tables facing the street as well. There are TVs and board games available. No food, but there is a pizza place next door you can order from. The beers were pretty good - I tried the porter, lactose IPA, berliner weisse, and imperial stout - all very solid beers. Worth a stop for sure.“

“A decent restaurant/bar in downtown Bismarck. Located in a historic building and lots of old black and white photos on the walls from the 1930s and such. There is wrap around bar, plenty of tables in the bar area, and also separate restaurant seating. I found it odd that there was no tap list printed out (instead the waiter had the list on a post-it sized piece of paper). Most of the beers not worth mentioning except that they do serve beers from a new Bismarck brewery, Edwinton, which has not actually opened yet. However, I found those beers to be at or below average. There is a pretty diverse food menu. On both of my visits, I got the knoephla soup (a ND special), which was good. On my first visit I got a chicken salad sandwich, which had a bit too much mayo. On the second visit I got a chicken curry, which was spicy but delicious. In all, not really a beer stop although you may find a few ND beers here, but the food is pretty good.“

“Bismarck is a surprisingly cool little city and Laughing Sun is a great highlight of the welcoming downtown area. It’s a tiny little venue, but with open/shared seating and a friendly vibe, it was a cozy stop. You can order pizza from right next door while you sip the house brews -- the three I had were good to very good. Easy choice. (Brewery #761, 10/2016)“

“Nice little brewpub in the downtown Bismarck. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and pretty decent beers. They didn’t serve food but I believe there was pizza joint next door. Wifi was working. 8 beers on tap. Flights of 4 served. There is not that much going on beerwise in Bismarck so if you’re in town this place is definitely recommended.“

“Came after dinner next door for pizza. Cool spot to hang out and not all that busy for a Friday night in a town with nothing to do. Played yatzee and drank a few beers that were all good. More games available so a quite fun time.“

“Nice little hopping burger place it was quite busy upon opening at 11am. Decent selection nothing that wowed me but plenty of solid options. Burger was very tasty and music was plenty good a couple choice songs picked from my personal library. Obviously worth a stop if your already here.“

“Small but quaint bar in downtown Bismarck. About 8 beers on tap including a couple of seasonals. Service was very fast. No food but the pizza place next door delivers and there were a few sodas on tap too. Place is not too crowded despite the live music. Good place to visit.“

“Good clean beer bar serving their beers. Knowledgeable and eager staff. Both gentlemen knew the vibe in the brewery and around town. Decent prices. Quick Service. I would go back. I had their brown ale and their pear fruit ale, good stuff.“

“A warehouse that’s pretending to be a store. There is beer, wine, and liquor everywhere. Literally, with the exception of some narrow walking areas, if there is space to put alcohol, they do. It can make browsing bottom shelves pretty difficult due to the fact you can’t bend over for fear of knocking over the stuff behind you. Other than that annoyance this is the best selection I’ve seen in North Dakota. Several Sours, Imperial IPAs, several ND beers and some other interesting brews available. Some of the beers (cases) are extremely well priced. I got a 12pk of Alaskan Pumpkin Porter (92 overall rating) for $13. Can’t beat that. They have a pick 6 section that is extremely underwhelming, you can make probably one combination of 6 that would be worth it.“

“Went last Saturday. Nice bar area, very busy, but the waiter still made time to check up on us. Several North Dakota beers on tap as well as some Summit, Deschutes, Ciders and typical BMC faire. Food was very very good. Very pleased with this place. Right across the street from Laughing Sun Brewery.“

“Many taps and good selection as well. I didn’t have any food but it looks like the other JL I went to in West Fargo which had a decent burger, but not much to eat than burgers really“

“A small comfy bar with a small stage for music and a nice patio. Service is great, friendly and knowledgeable. Selection is their own brews which are all above average. Prices are about average. Probably the best brewer in North Dakota and an absolute gem. I will find a way to get back here.“

“A really nice old fashioned bar with a separate dining room and patio. Service is decent but not beer centric. Not even beer menus. 6 locals and the rest macros. Pints only. Food is pricy and upscale pub fare, with a meat focus. Only thing going for this place is it is across from a local brewery, even though they don’t serve it here. If you want an upscale burger this is the place, otherwise not that great.“

“Small taproom downtown. Great friendly service with some quality beers and a nice relaxing atmosphere. I always struggle with the selection rating on a place that only serves their own beer... Yeah they had a bunch? Whatever. Go here it’s, a nice place.“

“I love a good liquor warehouse and that’s exactly what you find at Captain Jacks. Looks like they have a ton of liquors and cigars, as well as beers. The beer is spread all over the place, just like previous ratings note. From the back wall coolers all the way to the other end of the store where the bombers and specialty brews lie. Make you own sixer for $10 with limited options. Not a lot of bombers, but some surprises and a few solid rotators. Saw 3F, Mikkeller, Panil, Struise Pannepot, plus some random eastern European imports. Prices were fair on most, but there were a few things that seemed oddly overpriced. Overall this is the place to go in Bismarck without question. **I’ve realized this is basically the best option for the west half of the state and thus rated it higher... maybe higher than I should, but it should stand out from it’s company.“

JL Beers - Bismarck (Restaurant)

“Made it a point to stop here, as I seldom get to Bismarck. Turned out to be a great choice. Smallish establishment, seating for 47 via bar and high tops. Maybe some tables further back, but it was pretty crowded so I honed in on an empty seat post haste. Clean, lively, and clearly burger/beer oriented. 40 beers on tap, 37 of them being craft. I had the house brew, JL Beers Frackin’ Black, and it was excellent. I might just change my favorite style to Black IPA because of this… Good selection of glassware and I noticed they have some bottles too. They offer pre-determined flights for a decent price. Cajun burger and chips were tasty and arrived quickly. Overall I had a burger, chips, and one pint for $12. I wish I would have had more time to stay. Looks like they have ‘tap taleovers’ periodically and get lots of good taps we never see in western ND. Seriously, if I lived nearby I would come here all the time.“

“Cool little brewery in downtown Bismarck. About 7 of their beers on tap. All pretty solid though some are definitely better than others. Love music both ones I’ve been there which is really cool. No food on site, but he pizza place next door delivers which is pretty awesome. Great vibe. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.“

“The smaller of the two locations, it’s also easier to get to, easier to navigate around, and has a much better pick six section. Most of the beer is located in thre coolers along the right side with a partial aisle for bombers and craft sixers. There’s mostly regional and national craft here with a few obvious Belgians. It could be worse.“

“Located in downtown Bismarck which is pretty fucking lame otherwise. It’s a basic small brewery with a taproom. They dont have a kitchen but there’s a pizza place next door that delivers. They had 6 on tap, plus a cream soda and a root beer. The beers were solid but on the faint side of flavor. The root beer was fantastic. Probably the best place in Bismarck which ain’t saying much.“

“Jeez I’ve never seen a more cluttered liquor store in my life. The place is allege and mazelike. The beer is located mostly in the coolers kn the right side of the store. There’s also a small shelf of craft beer with a really tiny pick six section. My recommendation If you want something beyond a basic Deschutes or Alaskan this drive to Jamestown and visit the cork and barrel.“

“The south location is certainly better than the north. It has everything the north location has and then some. Lots of Bells and Boulevard including their seasonals. A few Rogue, Southern Tier, Sierra Nevada, sSummit, New Belgi, Boulder, etc. Quite a few beer from Montana as well. It’s a nice big store, but the beer is kind of spread out all over. Found some great beer sharing a cooler with four loko and others mixed in all over.“

“Not a bad beer store for Bismarck - not many better in the area, and this one has better atmosphere than Captain Jack’s North. Selection isn’t huge, but they do have a few things - mostly the more common micros available in the area.“
