“This brewery is located inside of an old school that has been converted into restaurants and businesses. Neat location. The beers were all good. They had a good selection - heavy on IPAs and sours. Also 4 pack cans to go. Outside they had a food truck.“

“The brewery and taproom and a restaurant are alllocated in a big barn-like building set on a hillside with a pretty nice view. They had about a dozen or so beers on tap - most were decent, nothing bad but not fantastic. The food, served from a separate kitchen area, was fantastic. A nice place to hang out and drink a few while enjoying some great food.“

“Nice brewery located in the same buidling with Lefty's Main Street Grill. All of the beers that I tried were quite good. Flights come in 8 oz pours. The food at Lefty's is great. I had a really great seared tuna salad and we tried some outstanding sausage potato soup. Will definitly be back.“

“A well done farm locale on the outskirts of Blacksburg. The brewery and attached eatery are apparently separate businesses as you have to order and pay separately, which isn't the most convenient arrangement. The food was OK (limited menu) and the beers were good. Worth a visit. Brewery #836“

“Parking is on the street and challenging. Big bar with typical colorful MM decor. Service was average. Huge selection of draft beers, but a lot of common beers. Food is excellent as usual, but pricey. $1.50/$2.00 per 4-oz. sample which is great.“

“Free dedicated parking. Service is typical for a super market. Lots of quantity, limited quality. They had a mix six for $9.99. Prices were reasonable. There is no reason for me to go back to this place, but somebody new to craft beer could get a mixer sizer here.“

“Great place on a farm co-op. Besides beer you can purchase cabrito, pork, and other products from the farm. The brewery is in a barn with picnic tables, ping pong, and games. Great atmosphere and a great place to hang out while drinking a few. The beers I tried were all good, though nothing exceptional or even great. I enjoyed the atmosphere enough that I will be back.“

“You’ll see the London Tube sign as you pass by - don’t worry that Londoners call it The Tube and not The Underground. Inside is a friendly dive bar mostly populated by students and grad students. All the flags of the former British colonies behind the bar (including ours). Decent enough taplist, and a few pleasantly surprising bottles (Bell’s Black Note when we visited). Cheap. They do serve breakfast lunch and dinner, but we saw no food for the couple of hours we were there. Worth a look.“

“Heidi from Lefty’s recommended this place to us - they have the same owner. The Main Street entrance takes you into the restaurant/wine bar which is sedate and classy. But you can follow the corridor on the left into Frank’s, or enter from the side street. Much livelier, more of a dive bar but in a good way. Couple of pool tables, L-shaped bar and some bar tables. Beer list was disappointing after Heidi raved about it - both Blacksburg Taphouse and Mellow Mushroom had better lists. Still, we found a few things that were worth the visit. Best skipped, though, unless you have lots of time. Maybe the wine side is more worthwhile.“

“Large place right on Main Street. Modern but lived-in decor. Huge bar, tons of taps. Only a handful of really interesting beers, both on tap and in bottles. Makes sense in a college town where student drink at cheaper places, except during $3 pint night. Server Griffen took outstanding care of us, and pointed us straight to the good stuff. Note the early closing times, possibly the earliest of any Mellow Mushroom on the planet. Worth a stop for sure in this college town with few adult drinking establishments.“

“Beer store on one side with a few booths, bar on the other side with a few booths, and a basement with more tables. Italian and Greek cuisine, which we did not try. Beers were mainly macro and larger more common craft stuff from around the world. Nothing peaked my interest at all. Server was friendly but not a beer guy. It is what it is.“

“Large chain-style restaurant with a large parking lot, right on Main Street but closer to the airport than to the town center. Restaurant tables up front, large bar in the back with a few bar tables. Seven beers available in flights of four (stresses me out when the math doesn’t work out, but staff were generous with samples. Beers were all very solid, and they are starting to do sours, with more in the works, including barrels and Brett. Guest taps as well. Tasty enough food. Terrific staff. One to keep an eye on.“

Vintage Cellar (Beer Store)

“Large wine store in a strip mall. Almost a third of the space is filled with beer, nicely organized by country and US region. Large tasting area, which is odd since you cannot drink in the store, and there are no taps. They do events, I was told. Selection is large, service is good. Would be much better if they had an ABC license that allowed in-store consumption, since Blacksburg overall has relatively few places for adults to sit and drink good beers.“

“A working farm on the northern outskirts of Blacksburg. Full of students having a good time playing board games, table tennis, or just drinking and talking. Various animal products for sale. Very friendly and helpful staff. They had a few food offerings but we did not partake (and we didn’t see anyone else eating). They’ll do flights of four or as many as they have on tap. Beers need work, which is surprising since they’ve been open for a couple of years at least. Come for the fun atmosphere but with low expectations of the beers.“

Six-Pak Store (Beer Store)
302 NORTH MAIN STREET
“I nearly always regret trying to shop at the 6-pack store. Their prices on most things are outrageous. I’ve seen them charge $15-18 for Stone bombers that run closer to $10 in most other places. They actually hide some of the more limited releases from the customers. The beer manager knows very little. The store is kept at a sultry 80 degrees F, or roughly thereabouts, and some of the beers are stored in direct sunlight. The Cellar’s pizza is excellent, and if you go on a Sunday they have these awesome little fried cordon bleu bites that are incredibly delicious but also like molten lava on the inside, so be careful. Also on Sundays, the restaurant has half off bottles of imports, which is pretty cool.“

“I’ve been shopping at the Vintage Cellar for eight years now, and I really love the place. They’re one of the best bottle shops in Virginia that I’ve been to. They have a pretty big selection. My only complaint about the selection is that I would like to see more imports, specifically Belgian stuff, but I’m not sure how much the VC has to do with that. It might be a distribution thing. The staff varies. The current beer manager, Jeff, is very helpful and nice and is learning a lot, but he’s not as knowledgeable as the previous two beer managers. My only serious complaint about this store is that they price gouge. They’ll often have beers $3-5 above other local shops. They’re not as bad as the Cellar 6-Pack store in Blacksburg about price gouging, but their prices are nowhere near as good as Barrel Chest in Roanoke.“

“As Krogers go, this is nice in terms of both beer selection and overall ambiance. Nice Kroger, with all the bells and whistles. Nice beer selection too. The typical macro crap but a good representation of locals and even some less common offerings from regional microbreweries. Staff is what you’d expect. Strip mall, so plenty of parking. In the same shopping center as Vintage Cellar so can’t hurt to poke your head in.“

“Good beer store tucked in a grocery store strip mall; not far at all from Bull & Bones. Good selection overall and well organized. Not sure if it’s the price or a different consumer base, but they had some rare stuff that I think would fly off shelves in other cities. That said, it kind of makes this place a hidden gym. I did think that their prices were a tad high compared to what I’m used to seeing, but not heavily marked up. They break up pretty much all 4 and 6 packs so that you can buy singles, but you don’t get any type of discount no matter how many you buy. Overall a nice place and a one-stop-shop for building up a pretty respectable cellar.“

“Massive brewbup in a newer, somewhat upscale stripmall complex. Inside the place lacks any distinguishing style and just seems overwhelmingly large. Service was just okay despite the fact they weren’t busy during the time we were there. They offered a handful of house beers but none were great; none were terrible either, but certainly nothing memorable. Food was equally forgettable; again, nothing stood out as bad, but lacked something overall. And so was my impression overall...nothing really bad, but nothing good to say either.“

“Smaller bottle shop connected to The Cellar. Smaller metered parking lot out front. Lots of singles, well organized, and quality selections. This is not as big of a selection as Vintage Cellar, but not as picked over. Service is not bad and prices are going rate. Way more selections than their website lists.“

> Applebee’s quality beer and food

>> Stopped in here on my way home from Asheville. Menu was unimpressive, but looked like they specialized in barbecue and hey, it’s in the boonies of Virginia so I took a gamble. Absolutely the worst brisket I’ve ever had, so bad that I thought for a moment I had been served dog food. Opaque poo brown color with no semblance of brisket. Canned green beans as a side. No seasoning, just dumped on the plate. Beer flight of all of their house offerings made it clear they can’t make good beer either. Harsh, chemical beers with soda carbonation and lemon water palates. Overall, I just went to the best brewpub ever in Asheville, Wicked Weed, and not I think I’ve been to the worst. Server was given a spiel for each beer and went over all them with me awkwardly. I wish I could just say, "no need, I’m all set" but didn’t have the balls. She then disappeared for the rest of the meal. “

“Visited on a Friday night and it had a nice buzz about the place. They were doing tastings of the new pumpkin and Oktoberfest beers that had just arrived. It’s good to see the outreach in a college town. They had a nice selection of local and regional craft as well as strong Belgian and Scandinavian section as well. They had most of their stuff available for pick sixes. All in all its a pretty solid place.“

“An smazing selection of bottled beer for a sandwich -pizza place. Taps are unremarkable, but you can have Founder’s Breakfast Stout, Old Rasputin, or Fuller’s ESB with lunch. Service is disorganized but friendly. Food is uneven but they try hard. Considering it’s Blacksburg, and the little retail annex lets you pack almost any of their bottles into mixed 6-packs, it may offer a better selection per capita than anywhere on the East Coast.“

“I have been here dozens of times. It is very well managed, the service is usually excellent, food prepared quickly, and the place is clean. I dislike the smaller than pint glasses they use for the beer, but I really like the pulled pork sandwich and the chili is second best in town. The better Scotch selections are too expensive in my opinion but they do have a few interesting ones. For BB, a solid choice.“

“Part of a strip mall with Kroger and the like. Plenty of dedicated parking in front. The beer is toward the back left of the store. Lots of singles. Good selection of Belgians, good selection of Germans, and good selection of American. One of the guys working there helped me find a few and let me ask about availability. Lady put my beer safe and sound in wine boxes. Actually returned a can I accidentally bought, no problems. Good pricing, but the occasional beer has some age. Hopefully I will be back soon.“

“Worst service ever. Showed up Saturday afternoon a little bit later than prime time for lunch. Place was busy, but not crazy. We sat at the bar, probably a mistake, but the guys to our left sat down after us and received their food before our order was placed with the cook. After 15 minutes our waitress took our drink orders. When we received our drinks she took our order. After 45 minutes I asked when we were going to get our food. She checked with the cook and she had not given the cook our food order. She told us that we could place our order or we could just go somewhere else. I asked if the six inche gyro was big, she said it was a lot, the six inch gyro is small but good (my friends food portions were much better). The waitress said she was new, she should get a diffrent job. Atmosphere was chill, but the paper towel dispenser in the mens room doesn’t work. Draft selections were lacking, bottle selections was a little better. Received a free beer due to the mistake, but it was a two hour tour and they have a dedicated parking lot but, it is metered parking. The bottle shop was run much better. Good selection of Belgians and pretty american selection. Rate is for the bar not the bottle shop.“

“Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. Went to the bottleshop side first. Had I not just come from vintage cellar, I would have bought a good bit more. The selection in the bottleshop is pretty good, but when you go to the restaurant side, the tap list is fairly unimpressive, but the bottle list is nice. After taking a seat at the bar, it took fifteen minutes to even have our drink order taken. Then about ten minutes later our meal order was taken. 45 minutes later, the waitress comes to tell has she forgot to put our order in and that we could either wait it out, or go somewhere else. Given, she said she was new, but come on. By the time we got to eat, the place had pretty much emptied. We did get one free beer apiece, but the service was about as bad as could be. At least things appeared to be clean. One positive from the reastaurant side is that the food was quite good. I had the Greek spaghetti and it was delicious and was a pretty large serving.“

“Stopped in here early Saturday afternoon and again a few hours later to pick something up I couldn’t live without. Parking is strip mall standards. Plenty to go around. When you walk in, the front half of the store is dedicated to wines with some nice glassware and hot sauses close to the door. The back half of the store is all beer with everything available as singles. If you wanted a four or six pack of something, it was available, but most were already broken out for individual sale. Pricing is very fair on all their bottles, but one thing I noticed and didn’t care for, was not everything was priced. Its not a huge deal to walk up to the counter to ask, but when I was there, the store was pretty busy and it took a few minutes to track a free person down to get a price. For the most part, I was very happy with both of my visits. If ever I’m in the area again, I will be back.“

“My daughter and I came in here Memorial Day evening at 9 to have a beer and hear the blues Jam. They had about 10-12 on tap. I had a local IPA that was new to me that wasn’t bad at all. $3.50 pt for drafts. My daughter had a Brooklyn Brown ale in bottles, they have a whole selection of them. There are two parts to this place. There are two doors and at the back you can go from one side into the other. The other side is a bottle shop with a decent selection that "hits most of the high spots" if not extensive enough to cover it all. The were open Memorial Day afternoon after Vintage cellar had closed at 4. Their 22’s of Sculpin were $9.50, Vintage Cellar had them $11.25. The pizzas looked very good, id go back.“

“I stopped here one time. Memorial day evening 2012. Early, not too crowded yet. I had the ribs and my daughter had the Sirloin Tip Medallions that I don’t remember what they called. The ribs weren’t bad, but I’ve had better. A bit dry and not "falling off the bone" yet. Her Sirloin tip was very good. The crab cakes we had for an appetizer were ok, but needed to be a bit crispier to be A+. The service wasn’t bad, just inexperienced. I ordered the sampler as far as beer goes. The beers were ok, but nothing that I would have wanted to take a growler home of. A bit light on flavor, most just needed a little more of everything. The stout was perhaps the best, the IPA was a good Pale Ale, the pale ale was a good amber ale and so on.“
