“Gave a mate a lift to Blackwater station so dropped in, 07/03/17. Another mate used to live nearby so came in a few times but that must have been 6-7 years ago. Whenever I’d been in previously it’d been on a Fri or Sat evening, the pub would be busy with a covers band in the front room and pool tables out back. However yesterday was the first time I’d really paid attention to the place. The exterior is somewhat drab but whilst it does not appear to have been recently decorated the interior is pleasantly traditional. There’s even an old off-sales hatch. We were the only two customers on a lunchtime. The staff were extremely helpful. They were concerned that we got the correct glasses. The landlady then spotted that the beer was cloudy and charged us less for our alternative beers. They must be the only pub for miles that do flights. The drawback is that the beers are pretty conservative (but I guess they get a CAMRA crowd), with London Pride I think being the regular and then Landlord, Rev James and Dark Start Art of Darkness as guests. Four more Dark Star beers were in the cellar. 6 kegs which include three craft-styled guests from Caledonian and Theakston . Also Sierra Nevada. Same beers on in both rooms. The landlady was interested in getting new beers in. The thing is, as long as it remains conservative then I would not specifically make the journey here. But a decent local that does at least have a range of options.“
