Fermento (Bar)
VIA LUIGI SERRA, 11C
“Nice bar located close to the train station. Seems to be very popular in the morning for coffee and breakfast. 4 taps and about 30 bottles. Taps are all Italian craft, bottles mostly Italian, but also Tilquin (including some special ones) and some German beers. Nice breakfast pies. Worth checking out if you're nearby.“

“More like a bar with some craft beer options than a proper beer place. Seems to be quite popular with the locals. Conveniently located in a park near the train station and working from the morning. They do serve some food as well, pastry and panini. Nice beer garden style patio. Unfortunately mostly Birra Moretti on tap, but also one Brewfist, which was not in a good condition. Not sure about the bottle/can options. Wouldn't go out of my way for this one, but it's a good option for pre-train beer breakfast. “

“Small taproom with patio near other beer places. They had 10 taps, I believe all of Zapap beers. Beer quality is OK. Place seems to be quite popular with the locals. Good spot for some ticking, conveniently located near other beer places. “

“Small place in the city center. About 8 taps and some bottles. Seemed more like food place rather than a beer one. Beers ranged from OK to very good. Decent place worth checking out if you're nearby.“

“Medium sized place spreading over two floors in the city center. Industrial interior. 12 taps available, 8 were on. All different styles, and some classical ones which was nice. Good beer quality. Friendly service. Certainly worth checking out.“

“2022 rating: the tank beer is what standed out, otherwise it was ok visit, ok prices, ok service, ok italian craft beers. Extra points for the tank beer!“

“2022 rating: I generally don't like these kind of beer places that are located at the supermarket type of things. This is no exception, but the beer selection is impressive as you can buy bunch of fancy Baladins by glass. Service was also ok, although they were out of some of those fancy Baladins and you could only find when you ordered them (so as Theydin_Bois said, don't trust the menu)... Prices are ok.“

“2022 rating: from the BrewDog bars this has been one of my favorite visits because staff was very nice and friendly. Beers were a bit mehh as they didn't have anything really interesting on tap. Prices were ok by BrewDog bar standard.“

“2022 rating: don't remember too much about this place because we visited after long crawl. But I know there were some taps with some very local beers, also there were bunch of ticks in the fridge. Service and prices were not memorable, so I guess they were ok...“

“First venue I stumbled across on my trip to Bologna, 5 minutes walk from the hotel and just happened to be bang opposite the excellent restaurant we had dinner in, and its a brewery taproom NOT on RB ! Friday 24/03/23 visit, and again the following day. Small taproom about 5 minutes walk from the main square, perhaps 8 tables inside and 4 on the street. Owned by Vecchia Orso and only opened in January '23! 8 of their own beers on tap and perhaps a dozen bottles making for approx 12 different beers all told for your ticking pleasure. 2 sizes of beer on tap ... 0.3 or 0.4 L ... good mix of styles offered. Beers were fine ... 3.4 to 3.6 kind of range. Friendly service, food available (billed as street food) and the place was largely frequented by a younger crowd ... lets say up to 80% full so always a table free on our two visits. Overall a good addition to the Bologna scene and nice to see something new open post lockdown! Oh and that restaurant opposite ... we had a meal there on 3 of our 4 days in town. Va Mo La ... a must visit for me ... all of the Bologna classics, 90% locals in there and outside the tourist trail so E10 for a ragu ... think along the lines of E14 in the centre. Rabbit in tomato and herb sauce with mashed potatoes was legit also!“

Eataly Bologna (Grocery Store)
VIA DEGLI OREFICI 19
“Visited at lunchtime on Monday 27/03/23. First review post lockdown so I've updated a few things. Firstly this venue was listed as 7 taps and 100 bottles. There are two places to eat and drink, one on the ground floor which is marketed more as a cafe/drinking set up, then a more restaurant driven space on the first floor. I had a quick glance upstairs .. I doubt there would have been 7 taps but didn't pay much attention. Downstairs there was one macro tap and a fridge with perhaps 15 or so bottles, other bottles outside the fridge area. There were a few bottles form Birrificio della Granda ... a new brewery for me and a competent APA. The place it typical Eataly set up ... smaller than the Florence one, a book shop with some artisanal food / drink products dotted about. Really little need to visit here in this era, one that has clearly declined in terms of its value to the typical Ratebeerian in the past few years. We just filled a 20 minute gap before lunch here.“

“The number Uno of Bologna beer venues for me !!!! Visited on Saturday night, 25/03/23, post dinner around 2130 and stayed till 2300. Just off the centre this bar is single roomed with perhaps 8 tables and more tables outside on the patio. 7 on tap, including a cask, and one changed over whilst there. The ubiquitous 1 x Ger (lager) and 1 x BEL offering ... that aside 5 super solid ITA craft beers including a top notch saison (4+ scoring) a bretted porter, a DIPA and IPA and a cask golde ... which was in great nick. Service super prompt and friendly ... busy but always one table of two remained unused. Good can and bottle selection also ... reasonable enough drink in prices and you can take away. Food available, although I didn't indulge, burger and chips type stuff. Overall a very well curated tap list of IT craft of differing styles, backed up with a solid bottle selection (maybe 50 or 60).“

Lortica (Bar)
VIA MASCARELLA 26
“Visited on the evening of Sunday 26/03/23 around 1930. Busy enough street bar, not much room inside but covered tables out on the street. Friendly service and I was offered tasters. 7 beers on ... 5 ITA craft, 1 GER and 1 BEL. Good hoppy local IPA's for me. Simple venue but good for some tasty ITA ticks. Fair busy but we bagged the last table.“

“Visited post lunch on Sunday 26/03/23. Over shot by half a block ... it's inside a foody market place so nothing obvious from the street itself. Bit of a shit experience all over tbh having sank many a beer in the Roma Baladin. Market was busy so went downstairs to a small room with maybe 6 stools .. .NO ... not open ... go and stand the fuck up in the busy market ... thanks! She was one of the most miserable servers I've come across ... 8 beers on tap and 8 bottles from the Xyauyu range that you could bag a bottle pour of. Despite being an UT verified venue the bottle list was not maintained so the 2 I needed weren't there! Overall this was crap but still a better taplist than the supposed #1 venue Ranzani 13 ... we didn't hang about.“

“Headed here around 1800 on the evening of Saturday, 25/03/23, largely to stock up on some beers to take home. Again, first proper review since lockdown, venue entry showing 400 bottles !!! Think Again ... about 100 to 120 now .. .half are IT craft the other half German, Belgian and English offerings so didn't pay much attention ... some 3F, Tilquin on show. You can drink any of the beers in the shop or out on the pavement. Friendly guy running the show who knew his stuff. Definitely worth a trip out here ... for pure IT ticks, which was my mission, you'll get the most choice here. APA and IPA Euro 5.5 to 6.5/7 to drink in so not much more than bars.“

Ranzani13 (Restaurant)
VIA RANZANI CAMILLO 5/12
“First proper review since lockdown ... bollocks to your number scoring shite. Saturday 25/03/23 lunchtime ... didn't realise it was evening only on the weekend ... loved Bologna but there's a few third world aspects to it, namely the airport and getting a taxi to town and largely internet strength ... could get nothing better than 'E' and therefore couldn't check the hours. Running with a partial review and giving fair scores for ambiance, service and overall ... however for the number one venue in Bologna was shite having seen the beer board. 11 beers ... 2 Ayinger, 3 boring English including St Peters ... St Peters FFS !!! 3 easy to get Belgians with 3 to 500 rates and JUST 3 ITA beers of which I'd had one. That's just not good enough for a number one bar for me. Worst selection in the 6 venues I visited during my stay! Clearly gone downhill post lockdown selection wise as many venues have, so worth a partial review ... simply wouldn't bother heading out here.“

“Visited later in the evening. The place was quite busy. Medium sized for the Italian standards, some seating at the bar. 8 taps, mostly quality Italian beers and about 100+ bottles. Friendly and knowledgeable service. One of the best places in the city.“

“Small bar with couple of tables outside. Just 4 taps and about 35 bottles, mostly Italian and Belgian. Taps were not the best beers out there. Just couple of tables right in front. OK for a place tick, but not an essential place by any means.“

“Came here just as it was supposed to open, but the owner was somewhat late so we had to wait a bit in nearby Il Pretesto. Classic beer bar, small to medium sized with some sitting places at the bar. They had 11 taps out of 19 on, some of them local. Also one cask which was not on. Not sure about the bottle selection, but I've seen good choice of De Cam. Anyway worth checking out for a beer or two.“

“Mixed feelings about this place. Their focus is on imported beers, but as a non-local there is vey little interesting to do for me. I would expect to have locals on tap. On the other hand they take care of locals who get to drink imported beers. We were treated as locals by staff which was very heart warming.“

“One of the few places in Bologna which opens quite early during midweek. By that I mean around 16:00ish. 8 taps, including 1 what Czechs would call "z tanku" a beer straight from beer tank. Friendly staff and English spoken. Would come back if in town.“

Beer for Bunnies (Beer Store)
PIAZZA SAN FRANCESCO 11
“Located in the pub/nightlife area of the city (Pratello) this small beer shop with 4 taps provides an excellent selection of lots of things beer from all over the world. Their expertise is guaranteed, as it is owned by the same guys as the Harvest pub, a staple of local craft beer culture. The place is colourful and relaxed, with not too many places to sit, but a lot of space right in front of it to hang out. Good punky music playing.“

“Medium sized place which seems to be very popular. Lots of people drinking inside and in front of the bar. 9 taps out of which 5 Italian, Taras Boulba, Tilquin Quetsche and two UK beers. Nice to see they have Mukkeller, you don't see that one around. About 10 lambics in bottle. Good place worth checking out.“

Beer for Bunnies (Beer Store)

“Small shop with several tables inside. 4 taps, the one I wanted to try was out so went to the fridge instead. Two fridges and one medium sized shelf with round 100 beers in total. Solid selection of Extraomnes, CR/AK, Ca del Brado to mention more interesting ones. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit the place, but since there are other beer places nearby it can be checked out.“

“Larger than it looks from outside with long bar dominating the room. Classic Brewdog interior. More than 15 taps, and round 100 bottles in three fridges. Nice to see some interesting guests, had a very nice Polly's beer there. Interesting bottles, Wild Beer, BBNo, Kernel, Sour Cellars, Los Abbey. Prices for bottles are bit crazy, 21 euros for Siren Maiden is insane. Anyway worth checking out depending on the tap list.“

“Medium sized place, got quite busy in the evening. 11 taps from small Italian breweries, different styles. Quite good bottles list, some gems like 3F Framboos and Golden Blend. “Medium sized bar, not that crowded in the early evening. About 20 taps, maybe 16 were on. Italian beers were Ducato and Birrificio Italiano, imports from Ayinger and Sierra Nevada. Some usual suspects like Lindenmans Kriek and Augustiner Oktoberfest. Service was OK. Wish there was more Italian breweries on the menu. OK for a quick stop.“

“Smallish to medium sized bottle shop not that far from the city center. They have plastic cups and two tables so its possible to have a beer there. About 250 beers in two fridges and on shelves. Good Italian selection with lesser known breweries. Also good range of imports from various countries, however prices for some of those are pretty crazy. The owner is ready to recommend and he seems to know Italian beer scene very well. Very good place worth visiting.“

“New medium sized bottle shop just across the bar and old bottle shop. They do have a small bar with couple of stools and three small tables so it's possible to drink inside. Around 100 beers in bottles, combo of imports and better Italian breweries. Some gems like Ca del Brado and De Garde. Prices for the good stuff are on the higher end. Good service, since the beer I had wasn't in fridge they gave me a bottle cooler. Not the best shop in town, but worth checking out if in neighborhood.“
