“Great craft beer destination in North Jersey, just off Interstate 287 and just north of Interstate 80. Lots of singe bottles and cans including many local brews and some rare European offerings. Staff is somewhat helpful, but this is busy store and they may not always be available to assist. Prices are slightly above average. Usually have several offerings from good local Ramstein brewery located in Butler, NJ.“

“Big fan! This store has great selection and convenient selection along with good prices compared to home. Staff is very friendly, though I generally am not looking for guidance. Their bomber wall has an excellent mix of top national foreign and US brewery offerings. It's also a great place to find a lot of NJ and eastern PA beers. Plenty of 6-pack choices as well, from the banal to exotic.“

“Excellent selection of craft beers, I don’t live in NJ so this place is great for me; prices are 10% lower than my home state and many brands are available that are not at my home stores.“

“Ambiance - it’s a liquor / beer store, kind of basic. The area is nice, feel very safe. Service - greeted right as I walked in the door. I got helpful assistance made me feel good. Also, the lady at the counter alerted me to the fact that I qualified for a discount, I wasn’t aware of, made me very happy. The selection isn’t massive, but a lot different than where I’ve been going, so it’s kind of exciting. I wasn’t aware of any food items. The value was very good I thought. If I’m ever in the area, I’d go there again.“

“Pretty good selection of local and smaller brewers here, a worthwhile selection of singles, but the main business here is 6 packs. Better than some of the bigger (or formerly bigger) beer stores in this part of the state.“

Cask & Kettle Homebrew (Homebrew Shop)
904 MAIN ST, STE B
“This is easily the best homebrew shop in north Jersey. The owners are very helpful (Joe is great)...the layout is very good...and the stock very complete. There are a number of discounts available to regular customers or if you have the NJ Craftbeer card. The have equipment here to make beer...you can do it in a class format or just yourself. All in all this is the go to place in the area. I highly recommend it.“

“Great little liquor store in Boonton. Great craft beer selection. One wall across, plus a "discount" section and coolers in the back. Many beers I haven’t seen anywhere else in the state.“

Cask & Kettle Homebrew (Homebrew Shop)

“So happy this place opened! Before Cask & Kettle, I was going to Corrado’s in Clifton for homebrew supplies. This place is so much better for many reasons. They have a great selection of grains, hops and everything you need to get started. Everything is extremely organized and the prices are really fair. Joe, the owner, is a really nice, personable and knowledgeable guy. You can go in there and talk forever about beer and homebrewing. It’s a really nice, laid back place and they even have some homebrews on tap. They even hold a homebrew club every second Thursday of the month and I’ve been meaning to go check it out. Great place...no complaints here!“

“In Newark for the week and went to scout out some local places and came across this one. The store is fairly large with a good selection of spirits, wine and beer. While they call everything from Bud Light and up, the craft brew selection is extensive with good representation of both foreign and domestic brews. Good selection of 22 oz and larger bottles. Most 12 oz. bottles are by the 6-pack though. The beers are sorted by country rather by style, but it’s easy to browse through. Each beer have a laminated info card attached. It would be perfect if they also displayed the rating there - RateBeer of course! Staff is friendly but ultimately just there to take your money.“

“Great store to check out if you’ve never been here. I stop in almost every week to stock up on craft beer. They have a really great selection and most of the time have what I’m looking for. I’ve asked the staff questions before about certain beers and sometimes they don’t know the answer, but that’s pretty rare. This is my go-to store for rare beers. I always call in advance before a special release and they will let me know what day and time they’ll be releasing the beer, and it’s usually first come, first serve. I definitely recommend any beer lover to go here.“

“Unlike a lot of liquor stores in New Jersey, this one doesn’t hide it’s beer and choke off the floor space. I’d say about a 1/3 of the store is beer and its on the left side of the store without the bombers along the left wall and the coolers in the back. Though they stack the BMC high and deep they are also thoughtful in their beer selections with the strength being regional craft. They had a small pick-six section but the prices there, as well as the rest of beer section, were very good. I can’t say the service was amazing but it’s very close to 287 so it’s easy to get to. Is it one of the top bottle shops in the region? No, but it’s not a bad place to stop on the way to somewhere’s else.“

“A good beer store strategically located right next to highway 287. New-Jersey is a nice state for beer shopping squeezed in-between two other nice states for beer shopping (PA, NY). In most other states this would be an amazing beer selection, but in New-Jersey this one is only slightly above average. Medium-large in size, about 75% American micros and 25% imports. All the Flying Fish, Schafly, Terrapin, some very limited Cricket Hill, etc, etc. Impersonal service, good prices. There are a few better beer stores in NJ (Oak Tree comes to mind) but for the beer geek traveling along the 287 this is a can’t miss, literally next to the highway, a 1 minute detour.“

“Good beer selection...it’s a shame I had the worst customer service experience here of any craft beer store I have ever visited. I’m a 23-year-old beer enthusiast and touring musician, and I actively search out the good stores in every town we come through on tour. I’ve stopped at the Liquor Outlet in Boonton several times before, but due to the rudeness with which I was treated by their staff today, they have lost my business forever. This time, some members of my band were under the age of 21 -- but seeing as I was the only one interested in craft beer anyway, they didn’t mind waiting in the van while I perused the selection in Liquor Outlet for my personal consumption. After about 30 minutes of scrutinizing the Belgian section, I finally selected three rare bottles which I had never seen before. When I brought them up to the front to check out, they asked to see the IDs of the other 3 guys waiting in my van. When I explained that they were underage but this purchase was for my private enjoyment, I received accusing looks and an apathetic response from each of the two cashiers and the manager. Definitely could have done without that. Of course, I’ve heard of this store policy before...but could they have said something before I wasted 30 minutes examining their stock? And I would have understood the suspicion if I was purchasing three 1.75 liter bottles of low-quality hard liquor, but three bombers of rare/expensive craft beer? Seriously?? I was treated like a lying, conniving miscreant instead of the loyal, enthusiastic customer I truly was. I understand they are trying to be a responsible liquor retailer, but their execution of this policy today was nothing short of disrespectful and insulting.“

“Best beer store in North Jersey without a doubt. Nothing else comes close! Their "wall of beer" with laminated information cards for each beer is a great touch. The people are friendly and they are always asking if they can help you. The wine selection and prices are great too.“

“Hands down my favorite liquor store in Northern New Jersey. The only reason it doesn’t get 100% is because it doesn’t have each and every beer on the planet available.“

Cask & Kettle Homebrew (Homebrew Shop)
904 MAIN ST, STE B
“Some friends and I went here recently to buy a homebrew kit. When we arrived, we learned that they do on-premise brewing, so we decided to book a brewing session for the following weekend. We arrived the following Saturday at 11 a.m. and spent the next 3 hours making a delicious oatmeal stout (Thanks to Joe, the owner, for the recipe.) and enjoying beers and eating pizza. We learned a lot about the brewing process and had fun, too. Joe was there to make sure we didn’t screw it up, but he left us alone long enough to make us feel like we were really making the beer, which I guess we were. We returned after 3 weeks to bottle the beer. Then, two weeks later we had an uncapping party at my house. The final product, Black Rage Stout, was an unqualified sucess. I only wish we’d made more than 2 cases. We are going back soon to brew a double batch. I highly recommend this experience, even if you’re not a big beer fan. “

“A nice selection of 750 ml and 22 oz bottles. Nice range of local beer to include a nice size cooler for cold beer to go. A very easy on - easy off from route 287. Somewhat decent prices, nothing to high or outrageous. Also a good range of styles. The staff was very friendly and two cute girls working the register. When I travel past this way to visit family, I will be stopping here again.“

“I stopped in Liquor Outlet Wine Cellar for the first time today. I’ve passed it many times but didn’t realize it had such a killer beer selection. Unreal, I didn’t have a lot of time, I was in there maybe 20 minutes but I didn’t even scratch the surface. I picked up some Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast, Guiness FES, Founders Breakfast Stout, Brooklyn Choc Stout and a Rochefort #6. I could have picked out so many more but I had to draw a line for today. There had all the locals. Even had Bear Republic and the Bruery from Cali. All the Stone beers of course except I didn’t see any Verticals. All beers can be bought single even if only found in 6 packs. Many cold beers in back as well. I live about 30 min away so I’ll be back.“

“To date, this is the largest craft beer selection that I have seen. Regarding service, I asked if they had a beer available and when they realized that they didn’t, they took my number in case they were able to find it. As for value, I think they were fair. Overall, I like the selection and the proximity to my office, so this is now my go-to place.“

“Great store that maximizes its floor space with amazing selections. All styles are covered here including the reclusive ones such as gruts, gueuzes, saisons, sours etc. What really shines here is the import collection to include Danish, extensive English, extensive Belgian, Canadian, Norwegian and more. The prices are truly a bargain in comparison, and you leave with a feeling that you’ve just gotten value out of your craft beer buck. Help is there if you need it, I never actually asked but I witnessed other beer guys being helped. My haul included ST Chocolat, Stone Bashah, Sinebrychoff Porter, Ramstien Winter Wheat, Harviestoun 16 yr Old Dubh, Rochefort 8 and some Nugget Nectar bottled on 01-22-2010 super fresh. really nice U.S. craft selection as well. Worth the drive from a while away.“

“ Ended up here based on other reviews, and I am glad I stopped. They have a commitment to beer that I have not seen elsewhere. It started when I walked in the door. They had a sales rep from Erie Brewing, I had fun asking a few questions. Then I headed for the Wall of 750’s oversize bottles, and Bombers. Had fun picking a few new beers to sample. And by the way, the people that worked there were very pleasent, and helpful. I had 2 people ask if I had any questions in when in the store, and at check out they were quick and friendly. Prices were slightly higher than average, but not enough to discourage me from shopping there in the future. I will stop by whenever I am in the area.“

“A rather large beer selection. nice selection of regional beers hard to find elsewhere. Prices seem very fair given the location and regional beers are rightly lower priced. a great stop if you are in the area.“

“This is one of the better shops in North Jersey and definitely worth checking out. Prices are reasonable, and stock rotates often. Always have the latest from Stone, Lagunitas, Climax, and more. Lots of Belgians, and a good selection of beer in general. While not everyone is super knowledgable, the staff is always friendly and helpful...........and they’re expanding the beer section as I type this! They always have free copies of the latest Ale Street News, as well. (Update: The beer section has been enlarged slightly. Bigger selection, better prices.........still no singles, but besides from that, this place is the tops!)“

“This is my local bottle shop. Selection has become 150 percent better over the last year or two, the new beer manager has done a very good job. Prices are also very good, for example: 4.50 for a rochefort 6 or 8, 5 for a rochefort 10. They have a nice selection of belgians, bombers, and a huge selection of six packs, although if you are used to the selection at somerville super saver or Oak Tree, you may be a bit dissapointed. Cons: no selection of singles at all. Update: This store just keeps getting better. The selection is still growing and now they seem to get all the limited release bombers and 750’s in right away. I feel lucky that I have a bottle shop like this right down the street from me.“

“This place is great. Meet the beer guy Mark while geeking out over their huge selection. Talked for a long time, he was very happy to introduce me to all the staff and talked about the tasting I missed Last nite! This place is right down the street from work, right off of 287. They get beer in almost daily, and know what they sell, and what else they can get that did not come in yet. Putting things aside and special orders are something they are more then willing to do. Quality as well as quantity! Re-Rate comnpared prices, they are much more reasonable, down right a bargin here.“
