“This place is bit of walking from the edge of the Old Town and on your way to Hop Hooligans. Over 10+ taps of local craft + some of their own beers. It tiny bit smells of cleaning stuff inside. Staff friendly and helpful. Large portions only. Card accepted. English spoken.“

“Just next to Beer O'clock. 1 meter. Looks like they used to be 1 room and someone built wall between them. Might not be true :) Anyway music is louder than grandmother snoring. Impossible to speak. Some taps, some beers, tourists. There are better places in town.“

“In the Old Town, so easily accessible. Quite empty when we arrive, but fills quickly. Windows wide open, so no smoking inside does not apply, since everybody smoke outside and smoke sneaks in. Random children running around and screaming, le fck? Loud teenagers drinking 1 beer between 3 of them. No small portions, prices quite high. English spoken and card accepted.“

“This place again requires a bit of travelling and wondering around. It's not a long walk from Old Town, 15-20 minutes. But location is completely random. Quite empty in late afternoon. All of their beers were with off flavor. Like sourish, not pipe problem, but more of beer problem. Their chicken-noodle soup (which had like 1 noodle in it and 5 small pieces of chicken) helped somewhat with my food poisoning from last day. Broth was honest. If you are in area, yeah you can step in. Otherwise don't bother.“

“So this place was bit out of everything. We had to take metro and then walk about 15 minutes. Barman had the deepest of the hangovers ever. He didn't want to be here, but customers kept coming. Quite hot inside with almost no air we decided to sit outside in the beer garden. It would have been nice except of the big table (of 20 or so) where 2 guys were just laughing non stop for 'til we left. And I mean non stop. With loud voice. Don't know how they breathed, maybe through skin or smth. Beside all that, worth a visit.“

“Quite empty during mid-week afternoon. Just us and couple of staff. They don't do flights, but can order small(er) portions. Some of the beers weren't freshest. Now I have to mention it, but I'm not accusing. I had guljash here. This was the last food for the day. After couple of hours I felt bad. Food poisoning. I was out for couple days. Nothing too serious, but still.“

“In early afternoon quite empty. In fact we are the only customers here. Barman with poor English tries to sell us some random stuff, but we don't want that. Luckily he is willing to give us samples. Not all the beers are freshest of quality. Might be pipe issue, not beer. Prices are reasonable. Card accepted. Worth a peek.“

“This was some walk from Zaganu, but there was Pardon Pub in between for our luck. One of the most beautiful pubs in town. Looks like built in old manor house or something like that. Plenty of taps to quench your thirst. Nice service, english spoken and card accepted. Must visit place.“

“Not the easiest place to get. We did calculations with all the numbers what we knew after leaving Ground Zero and came to the answer. Walking. Took us 15 minutes. Couple barflys were already waiting us, but no major crowd on lazy afternoon. Plenty of taps and they do flights. Just what we needed! They also sell bottles for take away, nice. Took us more than hour in here and whole time only 1 song was playing. On loop. Geez. Card accepted, English spoken. Some food served, nothing fancy. Will come back.“

“On the edge of the old town, near Universitat metro station. Large place, which is quite empty in early afternoon. We don't mind. They serve small portions. There is some sort of kitchen/food place as well and ribs looked nice. Some English spoken, card accepted.“

“From inside it was the most beautiful bar/restaurant in Bucharest. Conveniently in the center Old Town. Their own beer is somewhat mediocre with macro vibe, but place itself is nice. Making a stop here won't hurt.“

“This must be the smallest official taproom for a brewery I have ever been. No chairs, no tables inside. But some room outside. Beers were fresh. English spoken, card accepted. It's actually nice to sit outside and enjoy your beer.“

“Half brewpub half pizza/burger/food place. Meaning you can get food and beer here. Quite interesting tap system, no drains, no trays, so if your tap is foamy and must let some beer out to get proper flow it will fall to floor. Nothing like that happened. They serve 100ml portions so ideal for tickers. Around 20 taps, most theirs, but some guest taps too. Card accepted, English spoken.“

“One of the top places I visited. Great selection on tap and a large number of bottles too. As a bonus there is excellent bbq food to accompany your drinks. Points off for only selling draught beer in one size (large!).“

“Extremely large venue which seems to advertise beers on site. Only 1 beer under their name, and no bottles evident on the menu; it's just a lot of macro rubbish. Waited 10 minutes to be served, gave up and went to the Hard Rock Cafe.“

“Extremely large venue that is somewhat a tourist trap. Queues to get in, staff performing traditional dances and a focus on local cuisine. I'm not sure why you'd bother coming here for the beer but the food was very high quality. Given the central, tourist trap nature prices are higher than elsewhere.“

“A good central bar with a focus on its own beers - only a couple of guests during my visit. Offers flights for 5 of its core beers which is handy. May or may not do food; I saw a kitchen but no menus and no one eating.“

“Short walk from the centre, with around 20 taps available - including its own beers as well as guests from Romanian breweries. Big open space inside, and outdoor seating available. Did food but didn't check it out. Right next to No Room whose limited opening hours meant no visit this trip.“

“A modern taproom just south of Piata Universitati. Modern and spacious inside, also with many tables under young trees by the street. All beers on tap sampled were of high quality and focussed on Ground Zero and the allied Xperimentale, plus guests. Covered a good range of styles including several sours and dark beers. Well positioned for many of the tourist sites and the Old Town. May have taken over the role of the Hangar Gastropub in Pipera, though that was evidently open in March 2023.“

“Visited 10.09.23. An old upmarket restaurant in the city centre restored to former glory. Impressive ceiling paintings. They have their own kellerbier on draught. Waiters dressed in black and white. I violinist and a pianist played nice background music at my visit. More a restaurant than a bar.“

“Visited 09.09.23 and 10.09.23. 22 craft beers on draught at my visit, mostly from Romanian micros. Most the beers I tried were excellent. Friendly English speaking staff. The customers can choose if they would like to have their beer in two, theee, four or five deciliter measurements and glasses. They also do burgers, and the burger I had was very tasty. Outdoor and indoor seating. Highly recommended for the beer connoisseur.“

“Visited 11.09.23. Six interesting Romanian craft beer on cask. Next to Beer O’Clock and the same policy of serving even strong beer in large glasses. I would prefer a beer of 8,5 per cent in a smaller glass with a stem. So I subtract a few point for that.“

“Visited 10.09.23 before going to the Balkanik Festival nearby. A large beer terrace, of which half is under a roof. Attentive, friendly and English spesking service at my visit. Soft jazz oriented music was played on the speakers. A very enjoyable environment where I could spend several hours on this warm, late summer evening. They have a quite extensive menu with both meat and vegetarian options. I will give extra points for the music 🎵 There is also a large beer keller indoors.“

“Visited twice upon visit in the evening. Patio upfront with a street food place doing USA style food with corn dogs and deep-fried snickers at one of the visits. Interior is nice modern wood, the space could have been used a bit more optimally but maybe it would have felt too crowded then. Some wonderful visual touches to the place. I was always going to love this place 20 taps Hop Hooligans whose beer I just adore, full range, had a horse radish & wasabi beer that I loved so much, also sout, NE IPA, IIIPA etc. 400 ml. pours for lights beers, 200 ml. pour options for stronger beers but you can get those in 400 ml. as well, prices are on par with everything else in town, the had a few guests including an aubergine / tomato gose, service was bitten to the point but no faulting them. Number of fridges with more Hop Hooligan beers including a stout selection that I dug in some imports but didn't pay too much attention to that. The fridges were malfunction tough I figure since everything had a layer of water on top of it. This one is such an easy win for me given just how much I enjoyed all the beers. It is like a Mikkeller bar in a way but with good prices and better beer largely done better. I defiantly meant the later as a compliment.“

“Located in a suburb not far from Hop Hooligans. Looks very much like a local bar, looks like the living room of a pre-WWII house, cool. Only a very small number of locals when visiting hanging out outside or watching F1 in silence. It felt a bit too much like I had intruded a private party. There are bar cats that you can pet. Music was dad rock and nu metal, same songs as always. Beer selection was big BE & DE beers plus a selection of Wicked Barrel and Hop Hooligans. Bit too of a local / private affair when visited but not a bad bar per se.“

“Big place, modern place, just outside of the center - center area. It looks like a brewery taproom, warehouse but I don't think it is, loads of people. Interesting visual look, one side burgers and food, other side 20+ taps of Ironic beers and a very interesting selection of Romanian beer, everything available in 100 ml. and multitudes of it for decent prices. I didn't see bottles or cans. Not sure if they even do either. Could have used a small touch more character but great stuff for sure. Good service and loads to try and great picked selection. Just could use a bit more of personal touch or some clear branding around the brewery. Music choice when visited was wild tough, all Quasimoto - honnestly a blessing after so many bars with terrible dad rock.“

“Located on a large boulevard with upscale stores. Massive sign, craft beer. I showed up not knowing that happy hour would have been an hour latter, they do loads of deals. Service geared towards tipping, they soft push tipping, service was worth the tip so there is that. They do burgers and food stuff. Modern, clean slick, 11 taps. Pils, IPA, Belgian, Stout etc. Beer was priced quite well, the beer and it all felt like a larger brewery doing craft, IPL & IPA that I tried, first a collab with Hop Hooligans were both okay and drinkable but malty beers that aren't really something to get existed about. They had about a 20 or so bottles available as well. Well done and everything but nothing to get excited over. Solid but not exciting.“

“Located in residential area with "Golden Age" apartment buildings. Two massive rooms and even more terrace, place is huge and fully deserved when I was there, not a single person visited. Not sure if normal or just missed the peak hour? It is an Indian restaurant with a huge meat fixture, fine since no way would have eaten here anyway. The pictures in the menu didn't see it either. 4 beers available, tried a wit beer that was a low carb low buttery thick mess of a thing. A curiosity but the beer is crap and it doesn't look like the food it worth bothering with, good service.“

“What an amazing place it is 150+ years old built in Gothic style, it looks halfway between an old beer hall and a cathedral in the best way, architecture of that era still to be found, a blessing. It is a prime tourist destination, they could have just cashed in a become a tourist trap, I had two glasses of their beer, one was just spectacular, svetly of the highest regions, other one was very good, some variation but this is just peak beer. Bit extensive food menu, tried a fave bean dip which was nice. Service is super quick since they have internal texting system that you can even log in onto. Blessing to have this still, essential. There is other beer and good amount of wine, spirits, the other beer is not interesting but why would you bother. Pricier dishes are probably worth given some of the portions that I saw.“

“Right next to Beer O'Clock, sharing a toilet and probably the same owners. More slick and aimed at geekier drinkers, went from almost a full room to almost no one being there. Tap prices are far higher, highest I saw anywhere but also most imports I saw anywhere, Amager and the likes, Romanian stuff is more stout & IIIPA. Lots of stuff out on the menu but some interesting BA beers for okay prices and I found a Romanian kettlesour that I dug. Woman working being the bar was very friendly and passionate about Romanian stout, bit intense so but fair enough. Interesting to pick up something different, bit too elevated, geeky as well in a way that feels a tad like we want to get more money.“

“Spacious 'hangar' tap room of Ground Zero. Not easy to find, we had to walk around the area a bit to find it. Cool concept and vibe, accomodating service by the friendly (and chatty by Romanian standards) bartender. Solid lineup of beers, I especially liked the "Imperial Fuck" DIPA. One of my favourite beer spots in Bucharest, worth the detour.“

“Great taproom in converted old house. 22 taps, roughly 50% Hop Hooligans, 50% others. Guest taps were a mix of Romanian and other Eastern European craft. Well curated and should be a stop on any Bucharest beer tour. 5 or so full size coolers with cans and bottles for on-site or to-go. Prices are high by Romanian standards, but the variety and quality of beer makes up for it.“

“Crowded and noisy on a friday evening, seemed popular with the young crowd. 10 Zăganu beers and a guest beer on tap with a bottle/can menu of 27. Flights available for a good price, which I found particularly fortunate since the Zăganu beers weren't very good.“

“Centrally located in old town right next to Beer O'Clock. Stylish craft beer bar with a bit of an industrial/steam punk touch to the interior. Solid beer menu, plenty of local Romanian options for visitors as well as some international stuff, a lot of which was German in origin. Service was friendly enough for Romanian standards. You can order pizza from the pizza place opposite Beer Station, which is delivered to your table. Overall a neat little place, visited twice during my weekend in Bucharest.“

The Hop (Bar)
STRADA GABROVENI 6
“Spacious, with a covered terrace adjacent to street. Claims to have some 10 draught beers, about 30 international bottled beers and 20 from Romania. Service okay though I arrived on a wet Tuesday just after opening – I was one of 4 customers. A comfortable place to sit and chat and generally well-appointed. However, it fails to produce the interest for beer-lovers that adjacent Beer o’Clock and Bere si Bere manage, and its formulaic food (burgers, ribs etc) is not up to the standard of Craft si Draught nor Fabrica de Bere Buna. I opted for a cheeseburger but it was heavy, tough and rubbery, although the bun with its sunflower seeds promised more. The beer menu was notable mainly for those options that were “off” for my visit, though what they served was of good quality. Altogether a mediocre business and a poor also-ran in a street with of several craft-beer bars.“
