78 /100 647 MAIN ST This is a chill brewpub with authentic mountain town atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating is plentiful though the space isn't enormous. I just figured it'd be a pizzeria but the menu it's American pub fare. There are a few TV's around which are showing whatever sports the locals are yelling at the employees to turn it to. The beer is a good mix of old-school English and American throwbacks to some trendier stuff and not too shabby. It's cozy and quaint and the only brewery in downtown Carbondale so highly suggested. |
100 /100 Westroad Liquor Mart (Beer Store) 1701 W MAIN ST Def my favorite place to buy. Great selection. Great service. |
72 /100 Westroad Liquor Mart (Beer Store) 1701 W MAIN ST Small store with a decent selection. |
8 /100 760 E. GRAND Was stopping by with friends every week until recently. Waitresses constantly drink on the job and the one Becca is terribly rude and gossipy. She always seems to have a problem with someone in the bar. The place is going down and its got to be managements fault, seeing as the rest of the staff has been replaced over and over again.
Try out Sidetracks and Pinch instead. |
72 /100 647 MAIN ST Great stop in Carbondale, CO. Busy brewpub with 9 of their own beers on tap, and 4 guest beers when we were there. Menu is primarily burgers and dogs and salads, but nice selection. Atmosphere excellent. Lots of locals who mix well with lots of out-of-towners. Live music on weekends. Nice patio. Highly recommended stop. |
94 /100 Buffalo Wild Wings - Carbondale (Restaurant) 1435 E MAIN ST very nice place |
72 /100 760 E. GRAND Great bar
Food is OK |
100 /100 Picks Liquors (Beer Store) 750 E. GRAND AVE Great selection! The employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. They make special orders for beer I can’t find. The beer is always cold and the prices are competitive with other stores. They always have good sales and deals on beer as well. |
70 /100 Warehouse Liquor Mart (Beer Store) 829 E MAIN ST Not a bad place. Like the name, it is indeed a warehouse. Clerks dont really seem to help unless you ask for it and, even then, its kind of a crapshoot if they actually know about beer. Prices are average to slightly high compared to the surrounding stores. A lot of bottles seem pretty dusty like they have been sitting there for a bit, but, you can find some hidden gems. Overall, not bad but there are better stores in town. |
86 /100 Westroad Liquor Mart (Beer Store) 1701 W MAIN ST My personal favorite liquor store in town is Westroad. They have a really nice selection of craft brews and micros, many of which are retired or hard to find anywhere else in town. Even managed to grab some KBS here last time it came around. My only gripe would be that, regardless of how many times I go, they card me every time. I understand the care they need to exhibit, but c’mon! I’m there twice a week, remember me!!! |
74 /100 Picks Liquors (Beer Store) 750 E. GRAND AVE Pick’s is a decent liquor store with a decent selection. The staff is great, though the location and outside of the store (ie. a grungy front in a dark parking lot that often has inebriated homeless people) make it a leery proposition for me. It’s worth checking out, though I prefer Westroad’s Liquor for my craft brews. |
76 /100 The Hangar 9 (Bar) 511 SOUTH ILLINOIS AVENUE Kind of hard to find, as the front is covered by a tall fence with vines
and leaves all over it. Once inside though, its actually pretty nice. Here
on a Tuesday night, and its dead, but seems like the kind of place that is
probably packed with college kids on the weekends. No food, but a fair
selection of decent beer - about 15 or so taps plus another 15 or so
bottles of the good stuff (they have the crap stuff too). 2 taps from 4
Hand from St Louis, 1 local Big Muddy tap. Standout would have to be a
bottle though actually - Bell’s This One Goes to 11. Service is OK - 2
bartenders, and like I said, its dead, so its not too hard for them. Very
good prices - 4 Hands for $4, Schlafly for $3.50.

18 /100 760 E. GRAND Food isn’t bad, but the service and wait for the food was unbelievable. It took over an hour to receive my food, which was somewhat cold and stale tasting by the time I received it. The servers took their sweet time moseying around even when the bar was fairly empty. It pretty much seems as if no one takes their job seriously but expects to receive a quality tip. My tip for you is to get your shit together. |
58 /100 Picks Liquors (Beer Store) 750 E. GRAND AVE have many comment to said
|
64 /100 760 E. GRAND Nice little place, especially for Carbondale. Typical sports bar kind of set up. Average beer selection - some Schlafly, New Belgium. Food is OK, typical bar food - fried apps, a few salads, and burgers. I had a burger which was good. Not quite 10/10 like the other 2 reviews, not sure how they came up with that. Maybe the owners of the bar? |
54 /100 ABC Liquor Mart (Beer Store) 109 N WASHINGTON ST Better place than I thought it would be. Good selection of beers - macors, craft, and some import. Also have wine and liqour. A little on the pricey side. Make your own 6 pack wasn’t bad slection, although it was $10.99 Only saw one employee working, at cash register, so not much in the way of help. |
72 /100 Picks Liquors (Beer Store) 750 E. GRAND AVE good service. Sometimes there are deals that the other liquor stores in Carbondale dont have. Beer is cheaper at picks than at pinch for the most part |
76 /100 Westroad Liquor Mart (Beer Store) 1701 W MAIN ST Kinda small and cramped but they make good use of the space. The general employees can be kinda clueless but if you go during the day and find one of the older managers, the can point you in the right direction. Pretty decent selection of micros and crafts, but most are warm only. Decent prices and you can find a few retired beers than have probably been on the shelf for about 8 years. Check it out if you are on that side of town. 2nd best store in Carbondale behind Pick’s. |
50 /100 Old Town Liquors (Beer Store) 514 S ILLINOIS AVE Very small and very cramped. Clerks tend to be, I wouldn’t say rude, but very crass. Mostly BMC but they have a somewhat decent selection of micros. Everything is very pricy. I mean $2-$3 over anywhere else in town at a minimum. The only saving grace here is when they mark something down, it’s dirt cheap. Overall, it could be worse. Hit it up for the clearance stuff but avoid the rest unless you are a college student whose parents are footing the bill for your drinking habits. |
68 /100 ABC Liquor Mart (Beer Store) 109 N WASHINGTON ST Kinda tiny and cramped. The only time I’ve had employees offer to help are when a manager is around, the manager being the one to offer help. Selection isn’t too bad. Lots of BMC and some decent 6packs but not much at all in the way of 750ml or 22oz bombers. Kinda pricy too. Overall, not bad. Stop in for a few hidden jems or to find a few deals. There are better stores in town though. |
74 /100 Buffalo Wild Wings - Carbondale (Restaurant) 1435 E MAIN ST Decent chain place, if you have been to one you have been to them all. Servers sometimes know their beer facts. Pretty decent selection for a big name place. Last time I was in I got Schlafly Oktoberfest, New Bel Hoptober and So Tier Mokah all on draft. Food is decent. Kinda pricey for what you get (food and beer). Overall, not to bad. Better beer options than most bars or restaurants around here. |
26 /100 Pinch Penny Liquor Store (Beer Store) 701 EAST GRAND AVENUE Not a place to go if you want to browse beers. They have a good selection but the clerks tend to rush you if you spend more than 5 minutes in there. Last time I was there I picked up some Schlafly no. 20 and some Founders Breakfast stout but I won’t be going back to see what else they have. Small space + bad lighting + a**hole clerks = me taking my business elsewhere. Check out Pick’s across the parking lot for better selection and clerks who can actually help you or Westroads across town for selection and old men who know a little something about beer. |
72 /100 760 E. GRAND Great bar. One of the better selections of top end stuff when compared to the rest of Carbondale. Definitely my favorite place in Carbondale. The food is really good and they just redid their menu so its gotten even better. The staff is really friendly and they have some of the best drink specials around.
*edit* the new employees seem to be a bit lackluster. I guess its to be expected for any college town with a new influx of people all the town and a high turn around but nowhere near as good as it was last time I ate there.
|
80 /100 Sidetracks (Bar) 101 W. COLLEGE STREET Very chill place. A great atmosphere. Woody is a great guy and really takes care of his customers. One of the more relaxed bars in Carbondale if you want to get away from the 18 year old crowd that seems to crowd other places. Good selection and great prices. |
72 /100 Sidetracks (Bar) 101 W. COLLEGE STREET Very chill bar. If Woody is bartending you can expect drinks made perfectly. Not a lot of crafts but you can get pitcher of keystone for 2 bucks on the right night. Come here if you want quantity over quality. |
86 /100 760 E. GRAND By far my favorite bar in Carbondale. It’s really nice to go on an off night when you don’t have to worry about huge crowds. Food is amazing, definitely the best burgers in town. Waitresses don’t really seem to know what they are doing but the bartenders sure do. Pretty decent selection of regional and national crafts. Schlafly, Sam Smith and Adams, Chimay sometimes, Summit, Big Sky, New Belgium, and Blue Moon. Also, my favorite, Guinness on draft with bartenders who actually know how to pour it properly. If you want to avoid gangster and bouncers who act like gangster, avoid Pinch and go to Callahan’s right across the parking lot. |
60 /100 Picks Liquors (Beer Store) 750 E. GRAND AVE Fine store. Solid prices. The employees seem to hate it there. Also fairly certain that the two best ratings here are from management. |
80 /100 The Hangar 9 (Bar) 511 SOUTH ILLINOIS AVENUE Probably the nicest bar in town since they reopened. Great selection of crafts on tap, definitely the best selection in town. The only reason they are not higher is because they charge cover pretty much every night of the week. I understand Friday and Saturday night, but not on Wednesdays... |
70 /100 The Hangar 9 (Bar) 511 SOUTH ILLINOIS AVENUE The few times I have been in there, it seems overpriced, but its a nice change from what it was. The service really varies from great to terrible, much like any other bar. All in all, a place I will go every now and then but it isnt enough of a draw to make me go there above anywhere else. |
20 /100 Pinch Penny Liquor Store (Beer Store) 701 EAST GRAND AVENUE The store is tiny. They have no little selection outside of major beer distributors. The few times I have been in there, the employees are always very rude. Maybe they have changed since I was in there last, but I wont be going back to find out. |
98 /100 Picks Liquors (Beer Store) 750 E. GRAND AVE Amazing store. They have a really great selection, and they are always getting in new products. If you cant find it and its available they are always willing to get it in for you, I have been able to get several odd beers this way. Some of the best prices I have seen and the people know their products really well. |
70 /100 The Hangar 9 (Bar) 511 SOUTH ILLINOIS AVENUE I must say I am a bit disappointed with the new Hangar. I believe one of my main qualms is the service. I’ve yet to have been waited on at a table there, and often the bartender just seems to be ignoring me or my friends. They have a good selection but for the college student it is a bit pricey. |
80 /100 Picks Liquors (Beer Store) 750 E. GRAND AVE One of my favorite liquor stores in Carbondale. It has a very good variety and is continually trying to improve it. Employs are willing to offer suggestions as well. |
100 /100 Picks Liquors (Beer Store) 750 E. GRAND AVE Best prices in town! Huge selection of craft and limited edition beers, some of which have been discontinued and I can only find here. The employees are great. Very knowledgeable and are a great help in finding what I want. They have also ordered a bunch of beers for me that I could never find in town. |
86 /100 Pinch Penny Liquor Store (Beer Store) 701 EAST GRAND AVENUE Pinch Penny Liquor Store is a place that has definitely surprised me in the last year. This store went from having almost no craft beer to speak of to having 25% of it’s floor space now DEVOTED to craft beer. There’s plenty to choose from in the cooler as well as on the floor.
Things there right now I’ve seen in the past week: Bell’s (HopSlam, Expedition, Two-Hearted, etc, etc), Founders (pick an offering), Three Floyds (Alpha King and a few others), Ska Brewing (Modus Hoperandi, Blonde, Buster Nut Brown), Avery (tons of bombers and singles including Mephistopheles, the Reverend, Maharaja, etc, etc), all the Sammies, some Trappists, the list goes on and on and on...
This is a liquor store that has turned itself around from being a college town spot for frat boys to get their Natty Light to a respectable joint for both the beer geek and the non beer geek alike. |
22 /100 Pinch Penny Liquor Store (Beer Store) 701 EAST GRAND AVENUE The pub next door has better service than this hole in a wall store. I would rather go to Picks down the block. They occasionaly have some good brews there, and their beer fest every fall is cool, but ther selction and service is shit |
42 /100 Pinch Penny Liquor Store (Beer Store) 701 EAST GRAND AVENUE Got a couple of good beers there once, but they seem to rely on AB distributed items like Red Hook and Widmer. not that those are bad, just no selection in this store |
46 /100 Pinch Penny Liquor Store (Beer Store) 701 EAST GRAND AVENUE Tight little store. Selection varies greatly from week to week. |
46 /100 Pinch Penny Liquor Store (Beer Store) 701 EAST GRAND AVENUE This merits entry only because its the best source of beer in the greater Carbondale/Murphysboro/Carterville/Marion area. Labeling this the "best source" isn’t saying all that much given its competition. What you’ll find here is plenty of beer that caters to the undergrad crowd (namely BMC products) and some micros. They are the only place that I’ve found that carries Bell’s. Most of the standard Bell’s 6-packs are in their fridge of beer (all beer is kept cold) as are the Schlafly 6ers. There’s a few singles of things like Sammy Smith and a few Belgians, but that’s about it. In the beer wasteland that is southern Illinois, this is a mild oasis. |
