“Service was friendly. Very little as far as beer. I do not think they have 400 beers, and prices were a little high. make your own six pack section is very small, lacks interesting beers, and seems to require a full six pack purchase. I wouldn’t have put this shop on ratebeer.“

“This place offers build your own 6 packs from the craft beer section. They have a great selection of beers both warm and refridgerated. Definitely the best place in Cottage Grove. They offer beer and wine tastings on a monthly basis.“

“Stopped in for their anniversary party with a keg of KBS and Surly Three. They also offered some awesome pulled pork sandwiches at the time. Store was pretty cramped but had a big beer selection.“

“John and Steve are absolutely fantastic. Over the past 5 years I’ve gone from having a refrigerator stocked with Corona and Mich Light to building up a respectable collection of beer. This largely due to John and Steve’s willingness to educate an uneducated beer bum like myself. The selection (even beyond beer) here is fantastic anyone telling you different is being an elitist. The selection for a small shop located in the outer suburbs is unrivaled.“

“Dennis Brothers Liquor store has become my "go-to" store since moving to the east metro. The selection, service, and warm atmosphere have really made my shopping experiences pleasurable. They always have the latest additions of my favorite brews as well as a wallet-challenging list of specialty releases. Steve (one of the brothers) recently helped me to set up a beer course for a tasting menu that was part of a chef party I hosted in my home. It was phenomenal! Prices here are as good as or better than I’ve seen elsewhere. Thanks guys... I will continue to support your fine establishment! Cheers. “

“Stopped in earlier today after hitting up Bulldog. Pretty small joint that is quite a bit off the beaten path. The place was packed for its size so I did not get the same level of service as others have mentioned and no free glass, but I did get a La Chouffe tulip for $4 after asking about available glassware. Selection was pretty good and prices were probably as low as I have seen in the metro.“

“Not too far off of 494 (5 miles?) yet way down at the end of the road in a small strip mall. Impressive amount of items for a smallish place. A bunch of shelves of very nice stuff! Not tons of stuff but really nice quality. A bit out of the way, but given the opportunity, I’ll go back.“

“I stopped by this place on the way to Minneapolis. This is a bit out of the way in the middle of no-where but its a must stop if you are anywhere close. Located in the middle of strip mall in a small suburb...The store is on the small side, but bright and clean inside, looks new and inviting. As we walked in both brothers said hello and were very helpful. Asked us twice during our browsing for help and it was cool that they had a cognac, whiskey and Bells tasting all going on the same time. The selection wish this place is awesome. 1. it gets a bunch of mountain and west coast beers you can’t get in bigger cities like Chicago (Deschutes, Surly, and Boulevard). 2. Even better though they have an unreal selection of midwest beers, the rarer 4 packs and on offs (double-crooked tree and rare de struise). The quality is good, not great as it has mostly all regional beers but nots of ton super high quality. The prices are super cheap too boot. This is on the best American beer stores around, a must stop.“

“Not a very impressive store considering how far out in the middle of nowhere it is. Nice selection but nothing you can’t find at a handful of other shops in the cities. If you are in the area worth a stop but not a special trip.“

“I have just started poking around on this site, and I felt it fitting to visit and rate the number ONE rated store in Minnesota. This store is the REAL deal, everything that has been written in the pass by other members is true. Doing my part to share a true review, I visited two times. Both times were the same, great service and always something new. There is a reason this is the BEST store in the state. Oh, and by the way when I left(only after the second time), I felt like I had been shopping there for years...small town meets major city. I thought service was a thing of the past. “

“Drove out from the cities to check this place out after hearing that had some beers in stock that I haven’t found in the cites. Walked into a nice store with a decent sized craft section on the right followed by what looked like a large section of other spirits in the back left. Employee at the conter greeted me very friendly and asked if I needed any help. After checking out the beers I decided on picking up some Struiselensis and Duvel Triple Hop. Prices seemed pretty good and maybe a little cheaper than the cities.“

“Yep, this is the best beer store I’ve ever been to. Easily my favorite!!! Wish I lived here. In one beer run on 3/20/2010 I left with: Ivan the terrible, KBS, Black Albert, Paradox Ardbeg cask, and Witmer Bros Deadlift IPA. C’mon thats unreal. If you live in Cottage Grove MN and like beer, then you are truly blessed.“

“I’m pretty sure my previous rating of this place got deleted. Both my sister and good friend live in Cottage Grove not far from the location. It is a bit out of the way for most, unless you live on the south east side of the twin cities. Small store. Good craft beer selection. Not as expansive as Blue Max, but there are quite a few hidden gems here, and I think some of them don’t sell out as quick because of the remote location. I’ve spoken a couple of times to one (or both?) of the Dennis brothers. They are both very helpful and nice folks.“

“One of he best beer stores I’ve visited! Amazing selection of 750+ beers, and the store’s atmosphere is terrific. The service is out of this world - we were helped by one of the owners, who spent about 15-20 minutes with us talking about various beers, gave us some recommendations, took our initial selections up to the counter while we continued shopping, and gave us a couple sweet Belgian glasses to go along with our purchase. Prices seemed a bit lower than many other beer stores in the area. Well worth the trip, we’ll be back frequently!“

“I have been to this store on a number of times, and have had the same experience each time. No helpful service (except for the suggestion of Fat Tire as a great "Mirco") and a lacking selection. My return is doubtful. “

“I feel extremely lucky to have such a great beer store so close to home. I have received great service from both John and Steve. John is the beer guy and Steve is your man for top shelf liquor and wine. The selection is excellent and the atmosphere is top notch. As a fan of interesting beer, John is a great resource and has not hesitated at all to discuss the latest offerings. Highly recommended.“

“This is a very friendly store; I was greeted as soon as I walked in the store. As I was walking around I noticed they had a make your own six pack section. The price was right so I bought a couple, that way I could try a bunch of new micro brews. The staff was very knowledgable. Overall I had a great experience would most certainly shop here again.“

“I stopped in a couple weeks ago to see what was new and I really didn’t find anything too unique. I only got help after I wandered around for awhile. I was sadly disappointed when I got home and noticed that one of the beers was out of date.“

“Stopped by with KAF since he wanted cheap hopslam. The service was disappointing. The employees just stood around staring. The entire time I spent browsing, no one asked me if I wanted any help . The selection seemed to be on par with the rest of cities’ beer destinations. The store was absolutely beautiful, with gorgeous wooden shelving for much of it.“

“Definitely the most aesthetically pleasing liquor store I’ve ever been in. The selection is almost as good as Blue Max, which means it’s still pretty damn good. John is a cool guy to talk beer with and really knows his stuff. It’s a bit of a haul from downtown, but was still worth the trip.“

“I have been here three times now and was not overly impressed with the service I got. The staff did not seem overly happy to help and when I only purchased one beer the last time I was there the lady at register gave me a look like really, only one beer? even though it was a $12 bottle (which is more then someone spends on BMC!). I just did not get a good vibe. The selection however is quite good. A little heavy on the Rogue which I believe is highly overrated but some of their Mikkeller selection is great as is the availability of Cantillon. Their pricing is on par with other stores in the Cities. The biggest downfall of this store has to be its location. Cottage Grove is just too far outside the Cities (40 minutes). If you’re in the area definitely stop in as the selection makes it worth it but the forty minute drive is definitely a detractor.“

“I was by the Brothers. Their sellection was nice, clean and in date, they just seemed to do it right. One word I can say is GREAT! Hard to find stuff to a full line of Victory, Bells, Surly including a mixed pack and the most complete line up of Rogue. I look forward to my next visit with the Brothers.“

“This place is about as good as it gets. Great selection of bombers, including lots of Rougue, Ballast Point, Mikkeler, Flat Earth of course, so many more that I cant think of. Competitive prices, I think Fury is 9.59, Bender 8.99. The customer service is where D bros really shines. John and Steve know their beer upside down and backwards, and are always willing to help make a selection if need be. Best customer service I have had in a liquor store hands down, somthing that Blue Max sorley lacks IMO. It is worth the drive for most, but im glad i live close.“

“A very nice and well laid out store. Quite clean with a pleasant, almost small town feel to it. Excellent selection. Top notch service. The brothers will go out of your way to help you find what you want. Not quite to Blue Max or US Wine but close. Rivals Cellars for sure. Found some Struiselenis, Struise Witte. Only drawback was the painfully small mix and match singles selection. Overall, by far the best option in the East Metro. Top 5 in the entire metro area for sure.“

“I visited Dennis Brothers Liquors with my dad on Saturday, May 26. My dad agreed that, in terms of ambiance/atmosphere, this is the nicest liquor store that either of us has ever been to. The selection is very strong, although not quite at Blue Max levels. The prices are on the high side, but it’s a boutique shop, so that’s to be expected. However, many beers, especially Belgians, come with free branded glassware(!!!), and both of us took advantage of this benefit. My dad and I spoke to the Dennis brothers, especially John, extensively about beer and whisky. They are truly passionate about their business and the products that they sell. They really know their stuff and are happy to discuss it with their customers. We both received free samples of a rare Scotch, and John, knowing that we were interested in glassware, threw in two free Saison Dupont glasses. It was a great experience, and I definitely plan to make return visits despite the fact that the location is not very close to my home. This place is well worth checking out, no matter where in the Twin Cities area you live.“

“An exceptional place to buy beer. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Nicely organized store and very clean. Great selection of beers focused on quality and not quantity. Prices are some of the best I’ve seen. Highly recommended.“

“Stopped by for a beer tasting and got soooo much more. At first I wasn’t sure how great things were gonna be. Bit of a drive from Minneapolis. When you start to see combines and open fields on the way you start to wonder. Clean looking store front and even cleaner when you get inside. Everything is in it’s place on the shelf with nice labels and clean rows. Very nice wine section in a separated area. Great whiskey and scotch selection. Now onto the beer. The tasting was great with 10 beers being poured (Hopmouth, Jewbelation, and Old Ruffian to name a few). I stood around and talked to John (one of the brothers, hence the stores name) for a couple hours along with another BA member. We sampled and explored the many beers they have. The largest Rogue selection in the state is of great note (and a great discount on 3 bottles of it). Nice lineup of Belgian beers. Plenty of hard to find stuff too. John and Steve really love beer and it shows. They’re willing to go out of their way and talk to you about the beers and find beers for you. You won’t find that kind of dedication at other stores. Totally worth the drive and I’ll be back again soon. Thanks again guys!“

“400; maybe. I think it was smaller. They do have some rare beers, including Jolly Pumpkin that I havn’t seen before. Some Avery rarities, St. Bernardus, other Belgians. A few drawbacks: prices, which are a dollar or more higher than Cellars or even Blue Max. Also, the mix a six pack selection was very small, expensive ($8) and lacking quality beers. Very nice store, spotless, clean and well laid out. The strip mall setting doesn’t do it justice. The staff was very friendly and made it clear they were happy to help without being pushy. So guys, expand the singles selection & price the bottles individually, and get the prices on the other beers to match up with the rest of the Twin Cities. This store is worth a look and I will be back.“

“This is a re-rate a year and a half after my first visit. The beer section has grown dramatically - now estimated by the owners in the 660 range - and I suspect that they have pretty much that. There are three full sections (sorry , don’t know my retail terminology) with all the usual suspects as well as stuff like multiple vintages of Thomas Hardy’s, four Cantillon, the only full Rogue product line in MN - not fact checked, but I believe it is likely - seven Fantomes, and five Jolly Pumpkins. They have a build-your own six rack that they rotate product through. The on-shelf selection has easily tripled since I was through the first time, and they are very serious about getting the good stuff out. Knowledgeable staff will go out of their way to help with any info you might want, and has chased down internet beer rumors for me as well. These guys are the real deal and deserve more attention especially as they are the only good beer player in the south-east metro suburban beer deserts. There are only two or three places in the metro that can compete with their selection. They’ve got it. Go get it. “
