86 /100 28 - 1, HARDENGREEN INDUSTRIAL ESTATE A working brewery on an industrial estate that opens to the public as a taproom at weekends, I was travelling down with a group and they kindly arranged to open up the taproom early to us, drinking their beers (all keg) straight from the source. Brewer Johnny spoke to us about the beers and was happy just to chat about beer in general, while there was a ping pong table and guitars to entertain ourselves with as well. We also received a free tour of the place. Beers available to takeaway. Well worth a visit! |
54 /100 Blacksmith’s Forge (JDW) (Bar) 5 NEWMILLS ROAD A typical spoons and not quite as rough as you’d expect with it being in Dalkeith. Not a huge selection. |
64 /100 Blacksmith’s Forge (JDW) (Bar) 5 NEWMILLS ROAD In a nice building in what is mostly a non-descript town just outside the city limits of Edinburgh. This pub in the centre of Dalkeith is as busy as you expect for a town of this size and has ample room including a very nice front garden area that you have to walk through to enter the building. The bar and main area is to the rear and there’s little light entering the room so it feels quite intimate despite being open plan. The pub also has what feels like the longest walk to the toilet of any JDW place I’ve been in, and that’s over half of them!!!! There’s the usual decent ale selection here. |
