“Found out about Crafty Dee's through Google maps. The Taproom is is located at the Sea Cliff Hotel, above the Karambezi Cafe. The hotel is located right at the beach and in a fancier part of town. Its a bit of ride from the city center, but with uber its not too bad. There are 8 taps. 6 regulars, 1 cider and 1 seasonal beer. Its nice to have a bit of a style selection, which is not very common in Tanzania. Beers were in OK shape, a few had issues, and with some it was noticeable that the hops were kinda oldish a.k.a. the beer was not fresh anymore. My favorite was actually the Hefeweizen, that one would have been nice though, if it had a bit more body. I think I spent like 2 hours here, the first part (late afternoon) I was the only customer, later on same people came to eat. Fortunatly they do tasters. You can either get a tray of 5 tasters or get them in singles. They also serve food here, I assume from the same kitchen as the downstairs restaurant. Veggie options were a bit limited so I had a margherita pizza, which was decent enough. Food is not that cheap (20k+) but the taster was actually quite a good deal. I paid 10k shillings for the 5 tasting try. I think the single ones were not much more. According to the menu the individual beers would be between 9-11k each, but not sure what the size would be on those. Overall recommended place, especially if you are looking for a bit of beer variety..“

“I always stay at the Kilimanjaro when I am in Dar. This bar is far more expensive than the local joints but it is worth paying the premium. Beautiful sunset views over the Indian Ocean, free warm local peanuts when you order a drink, live international soccer, and interesting international clientele (last time I met Russian money minders - guys who travel with large sums of cash for interbank transfers in Africa) make for a fun evening. Outdoor seating for cool nights. Food is also available and it is good but pricey.“
