50 /100 Devon Drinks at The Cider Press centre (Grocery Store) SHINNERS BRIDGE Visited February 2023. Found this place quite disappointing compared to the other reviews on here and my previous visit about 10 years ago. Out on the Dartington bypass, it's one of those craft villages designed to lure in passing coach parties and tourists. It's quite an attractive place externally; but my mood was soured immediately by the fact you were meant to be able to get 2 hours free parking, but the only working parking machine wouldn't go lower than 3 hours so I had to pay (would have just left at that but the Mrs wanted to go in). The focus for Ratebeerians will be the food shop (there's also a glass shop, gift shop, toy shop, gallery and restaurant). Spread over two rooms, the food shop offers an array of produce from locally and further afield. It's a good selection - albeit somewhat pricey. However, the beer and cider selection seemed to have been decimated since my previous visit - probably only 20-30 different products there now. All from local micros, granted (plus a few own-branded products), but there's definitely much better bottle shops nearby now. Service was friendly enough, but the parking charge fiasco, the smaller-than-expected beer selection, and the general coach-party-destination-atmos left me a bit disillusioned. It's ok though I guess, maybe my expectations were just too high. |
66 /100 Devon Drinks at The Cider Press centre (Grocery Store) SHINNERS BRIDGE A good spot to get a number of different bottles & cans from Devon, some which were new to me. We had a enjoyable breakfast from the cafe in the patio area. |
68 /100 Devon Drinks at The Cider Press centre (Grocery Store) SHINNERS BRIDGE Situated on the edge of Dartington, which is practically next to Totnes, this is a hillside collection of buildings and pre-fabricated shops with pleasant paths adjoining each and the several car parks that exist here. It's a nice set-up with each shop focussing on a different line such as Glassware or home furnishing. The farm type food shop is in the highest hut of the complex and the beers and ciders have a full corner to themselves, with plenty of local and regional options available of both forms of alcoholic drink. They have their own brew (done by Hunters I believe) as well. |
66 /100 Devon Drinks at The Cider Press centre (Grocery Store) SHINNERS BRIDGE A great find. Must be close to 100 bottles of beer, cider and mead all from Devon. The shop is more broadly selling generally local produce, mostly on the food side. Great for the tickers even if a lot of the brewers aren't the most exciting. |
