68 /100 Pothole (Falstaff) (Bar) UNIT 17, PARK FARM SHOPPING CENTRE, PARK FARM DRIVE First on the RateBeer tour of Derby. Nice enough local pub, but next to impossible to find without local knowledge. The beers they had on were all new to me and 4 were Falstaff. Nice to know about but it was a bit out of the way. |
66 /100 Pothole (Falstaff) (Bar) UNIT 17, PARK FARM SHOPPING CENTRE, PARK FARM DRIVE Reviewed during Covid release Phase 2, indoors allowed with social distancing. Visited with Martin, Chris and John on a Ratebeer tour, pub no.1.
This is a small micropub within the Park Farm Shopping Centre, I would imagine that it would be a little difficult to spot under normal circumstances. Quite 'shop like' on entering but the bar is straight in front of you and the row of hand pumps greeting you makes it easy to choose your beer. As pointed out by John, there were 4 Falstaff beers and 2 Leatherbritches beers available. The beers were in decent condition and delivered to our tables promptly. We decided to sit out the front, where there are a few tables and it's a sunny spot, but you are in a shopping centre. All in all a good start to the proceedings. Not sure I need to visit it again though. |
70 /100 Pothole (Falstaff) (Bar) UNIT 17, PARK FARM SHOPPING CENTRE, PARK FARM DRIVE Thanks to Martinsh for introducing me to this place that I'd not likely have found otherwise! The Pot Hole is a tidy little micropub in a shopping centre outside of Derb's city centre. It's a Falstaff pub, so you're likely to get ticks. There were six casks on handpull on our arrival: four from Falstaff and two from Leatherbritches. Everything was sessionable, traditional and on the pale/golden side. Not a must-visit but might be worth coming out to see what's on. |
74 /100 Pothole (Falstaff) (Bar) UNIT 17, PARK FARM SHOPPING CENTRE, PARK FARM DRIVE Micropub that is in a former dry-cleaners in a suburban shopping centre. Large glass window (as befits a former shop) with the bar on the left as you enter, and comfortable seating on the right. Has 6 cask ales available, plus a similar number of ciders. No lagers or macro kegs but a small number of craft bottles and cans. Cask beers usually include several local beers (including form Derby and Littleover breweries), and normally of good quality. Talkative landlord. Only downside is the rather limited opening hours.
Worth the bus journey out of town – and you can always pop off at Creaky Floorboard on the way back !
UPDATE : this place has now been taken over by the flastaff brewery. Now sells mainly Falstaff beers, including "specials" so ticks are likely. On last visit had 4 Falstaff and 2 Leatherbritches beers. New landlord (George) isn't as talkative as the old one. |
