“Visited 19/11/2021. Situated a 5 minute walk from Dovercourt station and close to the beach, and just about opposite the Kingsway Hall, home of the local CAMRA beer festival, hence the visit. Though not my first visit to the building. Almost 23 years ago we bought my daughters pram, cot and so on from the Coop which had occupied this building for many decades until it closed and became a ‘spoons. It’s a fine building and for all their negatives, had JDW not taken on this (and other similar buildings across the country) it would probably have stood abandoned and fallen into disrepair. Most of the historic frontage has been retained and pictures adorn the walls of the store in former times. As ‘spoons go, it ticks every box you’d expect it to. 5 cask ales offered on this visit. Service was fine. Food was cheap and filling. A worthy pre-festival stop.“
