| 60 /100 Crown Hotel (Bar) BRIDGE STREET “Atmospheric and convivial if slightly insular pub in the town centre. It’s on CAMRA’s National Interiors list, and certainly plays the ’olde coaching inne’ to the hilt: low-beamed ceilngs, exposed brickwork and a fireplace bigger than my house. Six handpulls, mostly big brewers but there are a couple of local breweries represented. I had an Elmtree beer that was both in top condition and well-made. Adnams’ Sole Star in the fridge for some reason. Food smells good (and it ought to - the price is easily half again what you’d expect to pay). Not a destination pub but worth stopping in for a half or two. Now that the excellent Railway Inn has closed this is likely your best bet in town at the moment.“ |
