“Visited June 2014 on a tour around Scotland. Central based venue with a restaurant upstairs. Downstairs is the bar area, it's a decent size, lots of wood panelling. Reasonable range of cask was available, mostly local. Worth a look if in the area.“

“3 casks and 5 taps, service is OK. Not a huge selection, feels like a crossbreed of a pub and sports bar. Nothing to get excited about.“

“Located on the mall, there is a smallish traditional downstairs bar and an upstairs restaurant. A small lunch time crowd maybe did not do the place justice and the unfriendly sevice didn't help. All beers were craft with four kegs and six cask available with River Leven, Cromarty and Cairngorm represented. Beers were tasty and prices were craft beer scene standard. Two cider as well as whisky and gin were also available.“

“A big expansive wood paneled place in the main street of the Fort William with a nice traditional vibe. Good selection of cask and keg. Very nice place to sit on a few.“

“Visited on 29th October 2016. Situated next to the underpass between railway station and town centre this is a sports shop and bar complex. The single roomed bar has a real fire, plenty of seating and a nice feel to the place. 3 local beers on cask, Dark Island seems to be permanent fixture on one of them, quality was good, service decent and prices good. Really handy stop for a quick pint.“

“Visited on 29th October 2016. High St deli/cafe place which looks pretty smart. Tables to eat in plus a decent selection of bottles from local breweries, the best bottle range in the town, prices looked decent, service friendly. A nice looking place and a good place to stock up.“

“Visited on 29th October 2016. Large single roomed venue underneath a Travelodge a couple of minutes further past the Grog and Gruel. Quite a nice looking Spoons, lots of seating and fresh decor. Beer range was decent enough with plenty of local beers plus a few remaining from the beer festival, service slow with a queue building up. Prices good value. OK.“

“Visited on 29th October 2016. Town centre venue in Fort William, just over a 5 minute walk from the station, the Grog and Gruel has a restaurant upstairs and a decent sized downstairs bar. Decor is nice, plenty of wood gives it a trad feel. A decent array of handpulls with 5 having beers on from the local area. Also had a few keg fonts with a couple of Cairngorm beers. Beer quality was decent, prices good and service friendly. Probably the best place in the town centre. Also has a lot of whisky available too.“

“Had a visit by chance, in need for rest and some wifi. Turned out they had 4-5 real ales on hand pump at that moment, had one stout which was decent enough but nothing to write home about. The service was good, got a few tastes before I chose. Interesting bonus with a bar tender who seemed to know every single tune played on the radio, and who must have felt it was his calling to sing along to all of them. Fair enough but kinda weird.“

“Typical spoons really. 10 cask ales available, only 6 on at the time. Slightly disappointed that nothing was local (mostly Strathaven and Black Wolf). All the new ’craft’ offerings that spoons now have. Service was typically slow. Surprisingly not too busy for a Saturday night. Food was the usual spoons fare, and pretty cheap. Overall, there are definitely worse places in Fort William.“

“Visited on a Saturday night. Only 4 beers on, house beer seems to be a re-badged Cairngorm Red Rye though the bar staff claimed otherwise. A few bottles available too. Didn’t stay too long as the drunken, noisy people (locals?) put us off.“

“Located in the centre of Fort Bill by the waterfront the G&G is a boozer come restaurant. You’ll pick up a few well kept Scottish cask beers on tap allied to decent food, I had the Cullen Skink last time I visited. Good service and a friendly enough ambiance. There’s only a few venues worth hitting in Fort Bill and this is certainly one of them.“

“2014-06-30. The main floor is a characterful old wooden bar area. We sat down here briefly and decided to head upstairs to the restaurant part. The barstools we chose were not particularly comfortable and we felt a bit like we were intruding somehow (that may say more about us than the bar). It’s a nice bar area, but we felt more comfortable and had a bit more elbow room to ourselves upstairs. The food was pretty good. I had the bangers and mash special, which was tasty despite arriving looking like a coil of something not edible! :) Beer selection was decent with a couple of Cairngorm beers on offer and a handful of other real ales. Beers seemed to be in good shape. Worth a visit, more character than the Wetherspoons down the street. “

“Outpost of good beer in Fort William. Friendly bar with, from memory, five cask ales on tap, mostly ’local’ as in Highland ales. Food is plentiful and good value upstairs. Got a free T-Shirt when a waitress dropped a plate of Nachos on me! :) All good fun though, and a good place for a cozy drink to fight off the constant rain of Fort William!“

“Right in Fort William’s rather boring High Street. Actually all of Fort William is pretty boring. From the outside it looks pretty normal but on the inside seems like a log cabin. Odd, but it’s distinctive at least. It reminded me of scout camps. Seemed like a fairly relaxed, sleepy place on a Saturday afternoon. Plenty of interesting beers to choose from.“

“Situated in the center of Fort William’s main shopping street, the Grog is a relieving, rather authentic pub in this touristic sea. Calm and laid-back atmosphere. Decent prices for the area and really simply the only proper pub in the area. Don’t expect a gigantic selection, but a focus on scottish micros including obscure ones.“

“While they may not have an overwhelming variety (say, 200 beers), they do have a very good selection of Highland and Scotland ales. Of note are the beers of Heather Ale Ltd., Isle of Skye, Houston, and Orkney... on tap!“
