86 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE Red Dog has a very good selection and their staff is really helpful. I do find them a bit pricey compared to some other local shops, though. |
72 /100 Woody’s Smokes and Brews (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Free dedicated parking. The beer is in a separate area with beer on shelves in a separate room, cold beers in refrigerated cases all the way in the back, they had beers on tap in the back center (from memory more than a dozen). I had a guy help most of the time I was here, so service was good. Prices were reasonable. Worth a shot. |
80 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE Part of a big complex right next to Publix with a big paved parking lot. Ambiance is nice wine shop. The guys that work here know their stock and go out of their way to help you. Bottle selection was quite good, not nearly as picked over as Craft Brewed. Prices were the best for the area. Hope to come back. |
62 /100 Mellow Mushroom - Franklin (Restaurant) 317 MAIN STREET As with other Mellow’s the pizza is great...overpriced, but great. The beer selection was pretty depressing honestly. Not really on the level of any of the Kentucky Mellow Mushrooms. It seems as if they don’t put much selection into their beer choices. Kegs are probably just restocked instead of focusing on new or interesting beers. Other Mellow’s I’ve been to will always have 20-30 taps going with different beers rotating out weekly. Still my beer was in good condition, but definitely not a beer destination when in Franklin. |
74 /100 Tupelo Honey - Franklin (Restaurant) 2000 MERIDIAN BLVD 30 taps, lots of stuff from Nashville micros but also a couple of taps and bottles from Franklin & Murfreesboro breweries. This place used to be a Bosco’s, so there’s a large bar up from with some bar tables. Much larger than any of the other Tupelo Honeys I’ve visited, so there’s no waiting for a table. Easy way to grab some tasty food and tour the regional breweries. |
76 /100 Brewhouse South (Restaurant) 1855 GALLERIA BLVD A bit of a schizophrenic place that can’t decide if InBev or craft rules the day. Bud advertisements are everywhere, and I counted almost a dozen different macro adjunct lagers on the list - since they all taste similar, why so many? The craft part of the menu is actually very strong, but it’s scattered throughout the menu, they should at least separate out the macro pale lagers. Bottle list is good too. Sports bar feel, with TVs everywhere. Food was standard pub grub, but tasty enough. Friendly service. |
86 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE In a large shopping are next to a Publix, so there’s lots of parking. Beers are at the back, and selection is huge. Well organized by country and region with a good bit of local stuff plus ciders and meads. 15 taps or so, including a handful of local things. Growlers and crowlers available, and they had a bunch of crowlers in a cooler next to the taps for beers that had already tapped, a very nice touch. Friendly knowledgeable service. Great place. |
74 /100 The Bottle Shop at McEwen (Beer Store) 1556 W MCEWEN DR, #102 In a large strip mall, so there’s plenty of parking. Well organized selection, beers at the back. Decent selection from the region, plus a handful of meads and ciders, none local though. A dozen taps or so for growler fills, only one local. Friendly service. Prices were OK. Worth a look. |
80 /100 Brewhouse South (Restaurant) 1855 GALLERIA BLVD Visited in July of 2015 and was impressed with the selection and especially the service. Bartenders knew their beer and enjoyed the food as well. Recommend if you are in the area. This is coming from a visitor to TN so I don’t know what is available in the stores or at other places. |
100 /100 Harpeth Liquors and Wine (Beer Store) 1203 MURFREESBORO RD # 115 THIS STORE IS RELOCATE IN THE SAME SHOPPING CENTER BUT NEXT TO KROGER NOW.
THEY HAVE A GREAT SELECTION OF LOCAL BREWS AND IMPORTED BEERS!!
ALSO HAVE GROWLER STATION!!
GREAT ATMOSPHERE!! |
76 /100 The Bottle Shop at McEwen (Beer Store) 1556 W MCEWEN DR, #102 Nice store with a decent selection. Singles are available, price was a little high. |
84 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE Very friendly service, decent selection but not widest/best in Nashville. Easy parking. Need more cooler space and better options to build your own six. |
80 /100 Woody’s Smokes and Brews (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Good selection of beer and cigars. Small area outside to smoke and drink. |
76 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE Nice store but selection was not as varied as I like. Great fora neighborhood store, but not a beer destination. |
58 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE I used to like this place quite a bit, but it’s gone down hill as of lately. The service used to be exceptional, and now - not so much. Their selection is pretty good, and the main reason I used to like this shop was because every beer was available as a single. Now, while most beers are available as a single, there are some that aren’t, and when I’ve asked to break down the pack, I’ve been told no. |
80 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE Small shop with a good selection of high gravity beers. Most of the six pack stuff was available in singles. |
70 /100 Mellow Mushroom - Franklin (Restaurant) 317 MAIN STREET (Visited 02/2013): This Mellow Mushroom location is in downtown Franklin near the public square on Main Street. Parking can be found in lots, on the street and in a couple garages nearby. The interior stays true to the theme of other locations. Kind of a grateful dead meets family restaurant vibe. The bar is in the rear with a view of the taps. Selection at this location consists of about 20 draughts with only a couple standouts from Terrapin and Victory, the rest being macros or very common craft brewers. Similar situation with the bottles. Service during my brief visit at the bar was friendly if not overly passionate about beer. I did not have any food on this visit so will not rate it, but suffice to say the menu is essentially the same as other locations and it stands to reason the quality is too. I typically enjoy the food. All in all this branch does not seem to share quite the same emphasis on variety and quality of beer that other locations I have visited do, but may still be worth a stop for a visitor in the area. |
72 /100 Woody’s Smokes and Brews (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE This place has quite a few brews packed into a small place. They are typically priced fairly, and you can buy singles of most brews (not all, though). The staff there is often eager to help, but not very knowledgeable. |
74 /100 Cool Springs Wines and Spirits (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Small selection of beer, was expecting a little more. Had some very good beers, but nohing special |
80 /100 Brewhouse South (Restaurant) 1855 GALLERIA BLVD I was pleasantly surprised with this place. I had the Shin er Christmas ale, which has a very delicate balance of flavors, and my pint poured so cleanly, I couldn’t have done it better from a bottle. I have come to expect dirty tap line, but this place does not have them.
the bartenders were also very knowledgeable about the beers they had on tap, up to a point of being able to tell me what was available without having to look it up (and they have a lot of beers). The selection is smaller than Flying Saucer, but it is also more diverse. |
44 /100 Jonathan’s Grille (Cool Springs) (Restaurant) 7135 SOUTH SPRINGS DRIVE Shocked this place is in the database, but what the heck I will rate it. Was here back in September 2009 just a short walk from the hotel. Not really a craft beer location, but they did have some options. The manager turned on the NIU game for us so that was nice. Pizza was okay but pretty sure they messed up our order. It was a long freaking day then and I was just happy to sit down and get something to eat and drink. |
68 /100 Brewhouse South (Restaurant) 1855 GALLERIA BLVD Got to check this place out while I’m back in town for a few weeks. The bar was long and spacious, also lots of booths and table seating. Tap selection was large and looked awesome at first, but after looking at it a little more, I realized that 90% of the taps can be bought in local grocery stores. There was nothing really special on tap like you usually find at the Midtown location. I got the cajun sampler- red beans and rice, gumbo, jambalaya. I swear to god i put there cajun food to shame when I cook it on my own. Oh well, I wasn’t expecting much anyway. Another thing that bothered me was the fact that the bartender was going outside every 20 minutes or so to smoke what smelled like a cigar, maybe it was a philly or black and mild or something because it was more dank than a cigarette aroma, it could have been a weed blunt, not that I care that he was smoking necessarily, other than the fact that it was all I could smell on my glass when he poured the beers. The setup of the restaurant is way more open than the Midtown location since this used to be a Texas Roadhouse. I would take the outright cigarette smoke and cramped hell of the Midtown location along with the better tap list than this place on most days. |
70 /100 Mellow Mushroom - Franklin (Restaurant) 317 MAIN STREET Definitely better than the Mellow Mushroom in Nashville, this has a larger selection of taps (from what I can tell they were much cleaner, too) and the food seems to be made with more care. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and loves that this place can make a pizza or calzone with vegan cheese (which I think tastes like mayo).
Weird cheese aside, this has plenty of space, parking might be a problem on busier days, but it’s right next a strip of great historic franklin shops. |
54 /100 Holiday Beer and Cigar (Beer Store) 112 ROYAL OAKS BLVD Decent beer store, nothing more than an ordinary selection of the most common beers. |
80 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE Quite good selection for TN. Staff is friendly and helpful.
And they sell beer - so that’s good. |
68 /100 Cool Springs Wines and Spirits (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE I like that the beer has it’s own section- a little side room of to the ...side... It’s not the best, and it favors four-packs and six-packs more so than individual bottles. They also don’t seem to favor one-offs or collections like Woody’s next door does. |
52 /100 Woody’s Smokes and Brews (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Really a cool place. I’m not from TN, so I’m not used to being able to drink a beer that you just bought, unless its a bar or restaurant. I love the whole lounge setup. The lounge looks a little dirty, though- more like a barn loft with leather chairs. But still very comfortable with a great selection.
Updated 10/6/2011: The lounge is gone, so are the taps, and the selection has dropped. You probably don’t want to go here, the new Whole Foods has a better low grav selection. |
40 /100 McCreary’s Irish Pub (Restaurant) 414 MAIN ST. I agree with Illinismitty, do not come here for beer. The food was nothing to brag about either. |
46 /100 Jonathan’s Grille (Cool Springs) (Restaurant) 7135 SOUTH SPRINGS DRIVE No offense, but this place sucks every time I’ve been into any of the Jonathan’s, they never seem to have a draft beer that I really want, rather I just settle for a good stand by like Yazoo or Sierra Pale. |
38 /100 McCreary’s Irish Pub (Restaurant) 414 MAIN ST. Beer aficionados, look elsewhere (Mellow Mushroon is close by) If want a cozy but crowded Irish influenced pub, then this is your place. Expect to find the usual UK and US macros. There dozens of Irish bars in Nashville and probably hundreds of bars that serve Guinness- so I see no reason for this place to even be listed. And of the 3 times I have been to Ireland and the dozens of pubs I visited- not one put a Shamrock on the head. So I would guess that it’s not a true authentic pour (for those that care) |
12 /100 Kroger - Franklin (Grocery Store) 3054 COLUMBIA AVE Why is this place listed? It’s a grocery store that is 95% BMC. Don’t bother. Hopefully an admin will delete this place. |
46 /100 Holiday Beer and Cigar (Beer Store) 112 ROYAL OAKS BLVD Stopped by simply because it was the only place on my route that was open late enough for me to stop by. Kind of a dim place, very small, not much going on for "ambiance," I suppose. The employees ignored me for about 5 minutes and finally yelled out "Can I help you find something?" without coming over. I said "No, I should be fine," and was ignored again until I came to check out. The selection is okay... lots of Sweetwater and Yazoo. I picked up a 4-pack of the current Yazoo Brewmaster’s Reserve (Rye Saison) just so I could have something local. Otherwise, nothing special, good, or hard to get. Average prices. It’s quite strange, however, that EVERY beer on the mix-6 is $1.99 or 6/$9.99, be it reserve beers or Yuengling. Overall, meh... stop by if it’s the only place open until 11 like I found. It’s very close to the interstate, and if you’re not from the area, you’ll likely find something interesting you haven’t had. Otherwise, skip it. |
34 /100 Kroger - Franklin (Grocery Store) 3054 COLUMBIA AVE Slightly above average grocery store beer selection. Used to have a mixer-sixer rack, but have eliminated it. |
82 /100 Woody’s Smokes and Brews (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Great selection of "normal" beers (the hi-alc stuff is next door in the adjacent wine store). Four taps, with a nice little lounge to drink in house. They also have some nice tastings periodically. |
76 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE Great high-alc beer selection. One of the bests in the Nashville area. |
70 /100 Cool Springs Wines and Spirits (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Has a small secluded room with wire racks and a decent amount of high gravity beer. Far more to be seen next door at Woody’s but a decent shop. |
80 /100 Woody’s Smokes and Brews (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Good selection of cigars. Good sales as well. You can always get a good value on a good smoke. Decent selection of beers. They’re always trying to bring in something new. They have four beers on tap. They change fairly frequently and there’s usually something pretty good. Staff is very knowledgeable on both fronts. Woody’s is a smoke shop, so be ready for plenty of cigar and cigarette smoke. |
74 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE Decent enough place. The beer selection of plus 6% bottles is pretty good for the Nashville/Franklin area. Some different stuff, but still similar to what everybody else has in the area.
Staff didn’t pay much attention to me. I was greeted then left alone. Which is fine. When I had questions I went to the register. They didn’t seem to be great spirits. However, they were knowledgeable enough to help me make an informed decision.
I would go back, but it isn’t my top destination for high gravity brews. |
82 /100 Woody’s Smokes and Brews (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Impressively big smoke shop with a great low alc beer selection and four taps. I picked up several things I can’t get in Knoxville and the staff was kind enough to hold a bottle behind the counter for me. |
42 /100 Jonathan’s Grille (Cool Springs) (Restaurant) 7135 SOUTH SPRINGS DRIVE If you are a beer aficionado, don’t waste your time here. This is your typical Williamson county sports bar, with trendy and yuppie patrons. They have a few micros on tap, but I would never qualify this place for beer bar. If you are in the area, go to Mellow Mushroom, Woody’s, Boscos. However, they do have lots of TVs if you are wanting to watch a game. |
60 /100 Jonathan’s Grille (Cool Springs) (Restaurant) 7135 SOUTH SPRINGS DRIVE Kinda yuppie sports bar. 2-4-1 drafts on tuesdays. Daily pint specials. Mainly your typical bmc crap, but also some sweeterwater, yazoo, and a few imports. Fairly hot waitstaff. This is more just a pretty chill bar to hang out and throw back a few decent beers than a place you would find anything to rate. The whole bar is nonsmoking except for the patio. |
68 /100 Mellow Mushroom - Franklin (Restaurant) 317 MAIN STREET I am a little surprised this place is on here, because a portion of those 20 taps is macro crap..I mean there is enough selection on tap to satisfy a visiting beer geek, (Avery, Highland, New Belgium, etc. ), but I certainly would not make a special trip to this place. Every time I visit, it’s jam packed with the Williamson county stereotypes and parking sucks. On the up side, the pizza is very good, but overpriced IMO. Overall, not an ideal place to enjoy beer. |
8 /100 Cool Springs Wines and Spirits (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Curly is right. This store used to have a mediocre selection, but has really pulled a 180. Beer used to have a a bookshelf for storage, but now has an entire room dedicated to high gravity goodness. They also have two cooler doors stocked full of beer as well. Bottles are sold individually at the store and that’s how their represented on the price tags. Though you do often get a discount when you buy an entire 4 or 6 pack. Nice selection that changes regularly with the seasons. Some good hard to find brews as well. Staff is fairly knowledgeable and shows a real interest in their product as well as their customers. Prices are good but not always the best. However, its nice that you can buy a bottle and take it next door to drink at Woody’s Smokes and Brews. |
68 /100 Cool Springs Wines and Spirits (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE This place used to have a mediocre selection of beer but now has expanded and are bringing in new things all the time. Prices seem to be average and some great deals. |
90 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE This is a great place with an awesome selection. They have a good deal of cold beers as well as about a twelve foot long seven foot tall section of warm beer. They always have specials on seasonals and random new beers. Staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely a great place to go to get quality beer. ..... I was just in here again the other day and found some stuff that Midtown, Frugals and J Barleycorn did not have. This has long been my go-to store in TN for high alc beers and the selection never disappoints. I was also told that they do weekly beer tastings on Thursday nights. |
74 /100 Woody’s Smokes and Brews (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE Most beers available in the Nashville area that are 6.3% and below can be found at this place. There are a few obscure imports but everything else is micros. The liquor store next door has a few good high alc’s and it’s increasing. Update: as of now, there is no more lounge or draft beer. The layout of the store is completely different since they expanded the liquor store. It looks nice but certainly is a shock if you are used to the old look and feel. |
76 /100 Woody’s Smokes and Brews (Beer Store) 1935 MALLORY LANE I’ve visited this place a lot over the last few years, but they are just now starting to get it with the craft beer scene. New brands/selections in all the time now, with singles available for those of us who like to try something once before we buy a sixer (or if you’re like me you try something once and then find something else you haven’t had and try it). The newer staff are knowledgeable and courteous (and are RBians). The high abv side is getting better as well. They definately have the right people now. They just need to continue to develop the beer culture. |
36 /100 Harpeth Liquors and Wine (Beer Store) 1203 MURFREESBORO RD # 115 This is your typical TN quality liquor store; this one just happens to be located in the same shopping center as Hayashi sushi buffet. Mainly focused on wines and liquors, with a small back corner for beers (but they did keep most of them in a fridge which was a plus.) Not a huge selection, mainly some DFH, Oskar Blues, and Unibroue. Prices were actually lower than i expected. I’d recommend hitting this place only once just to grab a few of those ’half decent’ beers you just haven’t brought yourself to pick up elsewhere. Right before you head just a few minutes down the street to Red Dog. |
88 /100 Red Dog Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 1031 RIVERSIDE DRIVE Wonderful selection of high gravity stuff, much of it hard to find (for me, anyway). Classy place, mostly catering to wine, with all the trappings that entails. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, spending quite a bit of time with us. The prices were very good as well. This shop is a must-visit if you’re in the area. |
