“Not much to add to what GT says about the beer scene here, looks like it hasn’t changed at all over the years. The bar scene itself was very lively when I visited, and the bars were places to meet for business, diplomacy, or other more personal transactions with the local service industry. The restaurants, like this one, were places for the expats, and the Atlantic Bar actually had a good range of locally caught fresh seafood, and is on one of the most popular beaches, at least inside Freetown.. The barracuda was especially tasty, but the larger ones have high concentrations of mercury, so beware. The rock lobsters are cheap, plentiful and very tasty. The beer is Star.“

“I lived in Sierra Leone back in 2008 and wanted to add at least one place rating on this site to give ratebeerians a heads up on the beer scene here. Unlike in Liberia where they have modern grocery stores stocked, Sierra Leone does not. Here there is one brewery and one distributor. Pretty much no European gray market distribution. So saddle up because you will be drinking the local Star Lager, Guinness Foreign Extra, or Heineken. That’s it. Thankfully, unlike in Monrovia, Guinness FE is ubiquitous. Any side of the road dump hole bar will carry Star and Guinness FE. Star will usually be served cold if you’re lucky. Guinness FE will be hot slash tropical room temperature. So technically, find good stout anywhere. I added Atlantic because it is easy to find all by itself on Lumley Beach and actually has good seafood. There are a dozen other odd to just weirdly bizarre restaurants on Lumley Beach including a pretty good lebanese owned pizza place that’s worth checking out. But find a local watering hole off the deserted Lumley Beach and hang out with locals. Almost only expats eat at the beach front sit restaurants. Main point, Guinness Foreign Extra is extremely easy to find in this country. Just be careful on the abv here with the humid weather and risk of dehydration.“
