“On Tuesday 22nd July 2014, we took Chico (the new car) out for a spin and visited the Falkland Arms before heading off to the Killingworth Castle at Wooton. We hadn’t been here for a few years but thankfully little had changed in that time. They still sold a selection of snuff which they used to on my frequent visits back here in the early 90’s, I have never bought the stuff, however was pleased to see that. This pub is a picture postcard pub in a village that is also very much unspoilt. We sat outside with a Wadworths Ipanema (me) and a Lime and Soda (Loz), despite mine having a Brazilian themed name (World Cup beer I guess) Loz’s drink beat it hands down, 7-1 to the no nonsense Lime and Soda over the boring, brown Brazilian themed bitter methinks. The pub is a gem to look at, inside its cool, a little dark, simply furnished but the sort of place that would have a American tourist frantically clicking away on the camera. As you enter the bar is ahead and I was pleased to see eight handpumps on offer though 6 were Wadworths and the other 2 guests hardly set my pulse rating. We didn’t hang around for too long, I guess a combination of a fairly drab beer, two young ’rah rahs’ on the adjacent table whose favourite words were ’like’ and ’literally’ and of course we wanted to get back in Chico and contine the drive. I am glad the pub hasn’t changed, but I wish the beers would. “

“The Falkland Arms is a classic thatched village pub, modernised somewhat recently, but still managing to maintain a traditional air. Owned by Wadsworths (controversially to us locals) they have managed to keep a reasonable guest policy on top of the standard Wadsworths range. In the 1970’s a good friend of mine, John Milligan, was looking for a pub he could afford and bought this struggling village local. The village of Great Tew has been kept on a medievel basis where all the building were owned by the local manor. John built the Falkland Arms into one of the first, and best, Real Ale oasis and the whole venture took off. It now maintains this tradition but is far more touristy than we would like, se la vie. It remains a stunning reminder of a past age and is well worth a visit by beer afficianado’s.
29/04/12. While the charm of the pub remains, the beer is now solely from Wadsworths. If you are looking for anything unusual, this is not now the place to go.“

“Ahh...the perfect pub. Snuff boxes behind the bar, pump clips and an extensive mug collection hanging from the ceiling and cask conditioned ales on tap. Of the countless pubs I’ve been to in England this is hands down the best.“

“Is this the perfect country pub? Situated in an unbelieveably idyllic small village, this small pub serves good beer and top food. And any place that has no draught lager available gets a special mention from me. Don’t miss this place if you have the chance.“

“A fun dog friendly pub with a nice rotation of cask conditioned ales. Took me a while to find, but well worth the journey. Was a favorite spot to take guests to get a feel of the old English pub experience.“

“I was at the Falkland Arms when I was visiting England a few years back and this had to be the best pub I drank in. The Falkland Arms is in the village of Great Tew close to Chipping Norton. As soon as you enter Great Tew you'll think that you've travelled back several centuries. I had a great pint of Hook Norton bitter that was in better nick than the one I had at the Pear Tree that is a hundred yards from the brewery. My brother asked me if there was only one pub that I could drink in for the rest of my life which pub would it be? I responded with the Falkland Arms. If you havent seen the Falkland Arms please make plans to do soas quickly as possible. Your life to date is practically wothless. “

“This is one of the most photographed pubs in England, often appearing on calendars and postcards. Gorgeous. But even better is what's inside. The dining room is separate from the pub, and you definitely need to make reservations if you want to eat--the dining room probably seats 10 to 12 people, tops. But the value is amazing--once I had a wonderful lamb and vegetables dinner, like homemade, for five or six quid. I walked out thinking, "this rocks". The pub is charming with old mugs and the like hanging around. The beer is good and there was a good quality cider there that day as well. This is a gem of a place, if you can get there--and it isn't easy to find without a roadmap and daylight!“
